I'm checking out Lemmy as a reddit alternative. It's a little less-refined than Mastodon, but has a lot of promise. Found a few communities I like, but definitely needs more. Gonna start some 😬

Really digging @mlemapp, too!

Liking the app quite a bit. One thing I miss from Apollo was the ability to press a down button (bottom right) and skip all the comment replies and jump to the next main comment. Any chance of adding that? Or is it there and I’m missing it already? Thanks for your work!

Today I tried to download Mlem, and got TestFlight, and clicked the invite link. However I then realized I couldn’t use it because I have an old phone which doesn’t support the latest iOS version. I feel like this is a dumb request, but could there possibly be a release in the future for iOS 15?

305

No idea if this is possible, but if someone posts a link to a post using an instance url it would be nice to have it try to open it as a post instead of opening the in-app browser

download now from TestFlight, for iOS 16+

This update is big, and there's more coming later! This update includes these additions

  • New icon by the amazing clay! Stay tuned for more icons, including Pride! In the future, you will be able to choose between lots of icons, and submit your own

And these fixes:

  • A whole bunch of crashes related to loading communities
  • Some posts showing multiple times in the feed
  • (Hopefully) accounts being deleted between app launches. If this still happens, please either tag me here or add your comment to this issue: https://github.com/buresdv/Mlem/issues/74
  • A few issues logging in, namely when the server address included a capital letter, "http://", "https://" and others

I see the subscribed feed, but not a way to browse communities I’ve subscribed to. Is that in progress or am I missing something?

Title.

I tried with sh.itjust.works but just doesn’t say that it can’t connect. Can’t register with beeshaw (yet), so I want to know where to go.

Edit: worked after trying some times. For info, putting https:// is necessary.

Can the .ipa be downloaded anywhere? Or can someone post it?

I tried using testflight - but I'm still on iOS15 for jailbreak, and testlfight says I need to update to latest.

We're making excellent progress in developing the app, but the work is... a lot. Currently, we only have a tiny group working on it, some full-time, some part-time, and we need more help if we're going to meet the deadline of July 1 for 1.0-- and, realistically, to have a usable beta in the meantime to meet current demand.

We Need Your Help

Right now, we're mostly looking for developers. Obviously, since Lemmy is an iOS app, devs should be proficient in Swift and SwiftUI and familiar with iOS app development. Additionally, we need devs proficient (or at least familiar) with:

  • Swift - async/await
  • Rust (to read Lemmy source code)
  • Lemmy
  • OpenAPI
  • Automated tests - UI and unit testing
  • Accessibility UX for Touch (focusing on deaf and blind users)
  • International data policy compliance

Even if you only know some of this-or-that, you may be able to contribute, and we'd like to hear from you. You can comment here or come chat with us in our recruitment channel on Matrix.

Cheers!

The Mlem Team

I know this is a very long shot, but is there potentially any planned support for kbin through mlem?

I’m brand new and getting the feel for the app. I see my username at the bottom and my comment score but am I able to quickly see my comments?

Just joined Lemmy and I cannot see the Mlem app in Australian App store

315

I just wanted to thank you for your work on this app. iOS needs an app to access Lemmy. This is a great time for the app due to Apollo shutting down. I believe that your work on this app will greatly increase the number of people who join the fediverse.

316

Stickies from any subscribed community are expanded and take an immense amount of scrolling to get to new posts.

I’m curious if there’s an option I’m missing that can turn these off.

Cheers for the help and loving the app so far 🙌

No notifications in the app if someone replies to you etc. Should be fixed asap.

318

Not sure if this is on your map yet, but my login for midwest.social just disappeared off the app for me.

@mlemapp the latest version doesn't let me log in to beehaw. (version 0.0.6 (21))

320

In this update:

  • Adjusted the way accounts are stored. Now, they are stored using actual account IDs instead of internal IDs
  • Hopefully fixed a few issues logging in
  • A WIP new page for accounts
  • A WIP placeholder for checking your messages

Bugs still present:

  • Logging into beehaw with long passwords doesn't work
  • There's still a crash when loading some communities. I attempted a fix, but it resulted in a huge memory leak and the app locking up. If you want to assist with fixing this bug, please come forward 😆

I'd like to discuss some things regarding contributing to the app

I haven't done any iOS development, and I think I have the inclination to copy Apollo's design language, so I'd like to have some place to maybe poke questions or the likes 😅

I'm having issues connecting to my acc (beehaw.org instance) with mlem. The web log-in is fine.

I had been able to do log in with mlem when I first created the account. But once I changed my password (to a stronger pass), logged out of mlem, I could not log in with mlem again. The error message is Could not connect with beehaw.org.

Also tried uninstalling but didn't work.

In this version:

  • Migrated the backend from WebSockets to HTTP
  • Removed some intentional crashes, so it should be crashing much less now (hopefully)
  • Did some slight optimizations to make the networking work faster. Most notable posting comments and creating posts should be much faster now
324

After much work, I have migrated Mlem to the REST API. Goodbye, deprecated WebSockets! Mlem is now ready for the future.
