Matt Quatraro tought that the runner, that was originally on first, should have been send home and asked for a review: “It was their judgment of where the runner was," Quatraro said. "We went to [Royals replay specialist Bill Duplissea], and he said, ‘No, he was already at second when he threw the glove.’ [Crew chief James Hoye] said, ‘In my judgment, I looked and thought he was not there yet.’ And that part of it is not reviewable.

“Porter was still running to first when it happened. Loftin was already at second, after checking with Duper, so he should have gotten home had they determined he had already gotten to second.”

Matt Waldron throws it a little different than most knuckleball pitchers. He throws it harder (76.2 mph) and less often than previous knuckeballers like Tim Wakefield or R.A. Dickey. Padres manager Bob Melvin said: “It makes his fastball better. It makes his breaking ball better. It’s a pitch that he’s throwing enough now where you have to look for it a little bit, so it’s making everything a little bit better.”
