The 20-year-old former first-round pick is almost certainly bound to become the youngest Opening Day center fielder in Padres history. He'll join Andruw Jones and Ken Griffey Jr. as the only players in the last 50 years to start Opening Day in center field before turning 21.

Outfielder Cody Bellinger and the Cubs agreed on a three-year, $80 million deal on Sunday, according to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan. Bellinger will reportedly receive opt-outs after each of the first two years of the deal. The deal has not been confirmed by the club.

Right-hander Mitch Keller and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on a five-year, $77 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN, locking up another young core player as the team continues to try to return to the postseason for the first time in nearly a decade.

Keller, 27, had a breakout 2023 season in which he was an All-Star for the first time and struck out 210 in a career-high 194⅓ innings, anchoring a rotation in which he soon could be joined by Paul Skenes, the No. 1 pick in last year's draft.

Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, MLB could consider "radical realignment" with either four eight-team divisions or eight four-team divisions if/when the 32-team league becomes a reality.

Passan noted the addition of two expansion teams is "not imminent" because there are a lot more pressing issues facing MLB at the moment, but there could be a plan in place before commissioner Rob Manfred has said he will leave his position in January 2029.

On Saturday, they swung a trade for Red Sox right-hander John Schreiber while sending their No. 19 prospect David Sandlin to Boston.

Schreiber gives the Royals another high-leverage arm as they continue remaking their bullpen from last season. Parting with Sandlin, the Royals’ 11th-round Draft pick out of Oklahoma in 2022, stings because he’s a young arm with strikeout stuff, but the Royals are also getting three years of control with Schreiber (including this year).
