There definitely needs to be a way to block an entire instance(or whatever they’re called, please let me know I’m new) my feed is flooded with post to communities on lemmynsfw

I haven’t seen this posted yet, but has anyone else been having an issue with posts not loading? It started a couple days ago. I’ll reach the bottom of my home feed and Memmy stops loading new posts. Sometimes it’s fine for about 50-100 posts, and other times it will stop loading content after about 15 posts. It will show that new posts are loading for a few seconds then it’ll stop and not show anything new. Is there a fix or something that will be needing a patch soon?

How can I search within a sub with Memmy? Say, only search for "Mario" in Retrogaming sub. Should be obvious but I don't see it.

What does this icon do? It appears on scroll sometimes. Tapping it does nothing.

In an attempt to fix the push notifications not working, I changed the password for one account via safari. Upon opening the app again it said all of my session tokens were invalid.

Not a big deal but kind of funny since the server instances were different.

Maybe I’m blind, but through this app it doesn’t seem like I can send a message to a specific user.

Anyone else seeing this?

I have the configuration for hiding NSFW-flagged content enabled but when I browse posts I do see them in the feed (blurred and marked with a “!” so it seems they are flagged correctly).

Edit: Want to make this a sugestion thread, so please let us know your ideas on themes or names below.

Howdy all!

We have been internally discussing a rebranding of Memmy to another name. This has been a discussion for some time, and although we have certainly tried to see the upsides of not rebranding, we don't think this is a viable long-term option, for - among others - the following reasons:

  • Eventual support for non-Lemmy services such as Kbin or Mastodon
  • User awareness of Lemmy. Right now, the vast majority of people who are finding the app most likely are specifically searching for "Lemmy". While that's great and (based on trends on downloads/day) shows that there's obviously a big demand for Lemmy, we think this might not be the best way to grow - not just for ourselves but for Lemmy as a whole. We want the fediverse to grow and the best way to do that is to make it acceptable and easy to access without specifically targeting people who already know about Lemmy
  • Community feedback in general about the name. None of this is taken personal or anything, but there's definitely negative feedback for multiple reasons about it, and honestly I think we agree with most - if not all - of that feedback.

Like I said, this is not something that we are doing lightly and we want to make sure we make the right choice before moving forward.

Mind you, we are not talking about a short-term goal here of supporting multiple Fediverse platforms. That probably isn't even in the one-year plan if I'm being honest. But I personally believe the way that we make the Fediverse work is by making the whole experience awesome, and that means offering users with options and ease-of-use.

So, with that said, we want to see what you guys think. We have had internal discussion about the possibility of using the name Badger, and while we all think that's a pretty good option, we are not 100% sold and want to gauge feedback before we do anything. Edit: It seems like that might not be something the community is interested in, so we likely won't be going that route.

Please drop your suggestions for themes or names below! We will go through them all sometime later in the day.

Let us know your thoughts!

I’ve set the font one or two steps larger. Bugging me out since days, thought I mention it

Can this feature/function be updated so that the read posts still show up on the feed? The way it worked in Apollo was that posts would show up and you could click the hide/eye button to manually hide them. If I refreshed the homepage the hidden posts would show yo again.

Not asking to remove the current behaviour but can this be added with a toggle? I miss being able to go back to previously read posts after there are new comments.

Can you implement a language selector? I don‘t like the german translation as it contains reddit circlejerk terms like „Pfostieren“ instead of „Posten“. I‘d rather use the english version.

Developing an app is not easy or fast. Its time consuming and requires you pour a lot of your own time and money. We love your app and want to ensure it remains sustainable for you to continue development. Please make it as easy as possible for all of us to donate monthly by using the platforms a lot of us use. These being github sponsors, patreon, open collective, and liberapay.

For reference this is the voyager (formerly wefwef) developers github sponsors which is also a great project the community is starting to help fund https://github.com/sponsors/aeharding

And some servers have open collectives to pay their server bills which is also great https://opencollective.com/beehaw

Since of yesterday evening, the Memmy App gives me an Error on startup (see image).

I can see the app had an Update, so I guess it is related to that. On Init, I can see the background-image (dark orange with planet) and after a second the error pops up. When saying ok. There is a second error message with the same message. The longer I wait before I click it away, the more error messages there are to be clicked away. So I guess there is repeated request that is failing in the background.

As soon as I clicked the error away, I can only see the default the App UI, with an empty center panel saying "Error loading content :( Retry". When waiting the error message will reappear after 2-4 seconds. When waiting, there are several (2-n) error messages stacked that has to be clicked away to get back to the empty panel.

I’m not sure if this has been requested already, but the hide nsfw setting is not working for me. I’ve already tried reinstalling the app & reloging several times. Are there currently any plans to add a feature where we can block an entire instance via Memmy? I’m exhausted trying to block nsfw content & tired of seeing it in my feed. Switching the feed to subscribed works for 5 minutes until I’ve seen all posts since I haven’t found as many communities to subscribe to, which is hard to do, due to the constant nsfw influx in the all-instance feed.

I have logged out, cleared the cache, logged in again. Still nothing shown. I have also updated memmy to the latest test version 0.3., but nothing.

Any ideas for a fix?

Please educate me if this already exists and I'm not finding it. Sorting posts by New Comments is a great way to stay on top of the latest discussions.

Coming to the App Store tomorrow!

Hey all! We still have some more QOL updates coming tomorrow or Saturday. Working on getting comments all sorted up (more like the Apollo style) and getting post editing/deletion as well as mod tools underway.

This update provides a VAST improvement to the image viewer. There shouldn't be any more issues with the swiping to close.

There are some issues still but they are minor and I'll get them cleaned up here soon. I've spent the day writing this viewer from scratch, so it's been a process.

The "white flash of death" should be fixed here as well when you open up the app.

We also now support localization! German is officially supported now, and we will be sourcing other languages to improve the experience for everyone.

Other minor fixes as well in this build, including a fix for a crash that was happening with the new spoilers.

Stay tuned, and happy scrolling!

On most pictures, exiting out of the viewing page by swiping down does not seem to work reliably. If the picture is covering at least around 60% of the display, swiping works ok, but anything smaller than that, and the picture "bounces" back into view and I can only exit via the "X" button.
