Sorry if this is not the place to do this, but saving individual comments is a fairly important part of how I personally interact with the app (same as it was for reddit and other aggregators).

I can currently do this by using another app to do it, but it gets pretty involved to get to the exact post and under it, the exact comment, then return to Memmy and continue, so I hope it’s on the roadmap, and if not, I hope it could be considered as something to add.

Hey guys! Sorry for being AWOL for the past few days. I’ve been taking some personal time and stepped away for a bit. Going to be cleaning up some more stuff and pushing out some good stuff to you guys soon.

This build here - for real this time - offers significant performance enhancements. There is more to be done, but this is a great start.

Here’s some changes:

  • Hide username in the tab bar
  • Some context menu refactors
  • Add bug report option
  • We have replaced the old UI library with a new one. There are still some quirks to work out, and we will be handling those over the next few days. This offers quite a significant performance boost over the last library.
  • Using more stable variables to prevent unnecessary re-renders. This is one part of the performance improvements.
  • Fix infinite refreshing attempts of an empty community
  • Added option to delete posts. This was something I threw in tonight and will be finishing edit post tomorrow. I also have the mod tools ready to go, just a matter of adding them where they need to be in the menus
  • Comment chains are collapsed after either the first 4 2nd level comments or after 3 replies to a 2nd level comment. Much easier to scroll through comments now. This is a WIP so there might be issues. Let us know.
  • Added a comment jump button. Speaks for itself. Might have some issues and is still a WIP. Let us know if anything goes wrong
  • Should have fixed a few crashes that were getting reported while I was away.

Again, sorry for the downtime. I’ll be more active over the next week and we should see some big stuff.

I don't see an option for it anywhere

I was trying to submit a comment today when it said I couldn't comment in this language. My account default is set to English, but I don't see a way in memmy to select the language for my specific comment.

This is particularly infuriating:

I’m editing a (often lengthy), and I’ll switch to the browser to look something up or get a link to something I want to reference. When I return to the app, it does a force reload and returns to the home feed, losing not only my place, but the content of what I typed.

Had a post in here yesterday that stopped being helpful after about 10 minutes. Would be nice to be able to silence inbox notifications.

Apollo also had an option to silence comment replies which was pretty nice for when a comment gained traction but I was no longer interested in replies.

For reference I am on the apple App Store version, as the top sticky says TestFlight is currently unstable.

I’m blocking so many a day I think it’s giving me carpal tunnel, and I know it will never end. Porn is more infinite than the universe. Please dear god let me block lemmy.nsfw

On Apollo you could swipe right to left to collapse a whole comment thread even if you were several comments deep. Would love to see this as an option as I collapse a lot more than I save comments.

I noticed while scrolling All that whenever these posts are displayed, the app lags out significantly, but then returns to normal a few seconds after they’re off screen.

I suspect it’s actually just the top one because it’s a gif. Running latest test test flight version

It would be nice to have a button in the lower corner of the screen that allows users to quickly jump to the next comment that is not a reply to another comment.

I'm feeling nostalgic for the happy blue lemming icon with the red nose.

As the title suggests, I am in Lemmy world, but it would be nice to browse a different local such as the UK one or the Australian one.

The link previews at the bottom of a post or comment was one of the nicer little QOL features in Apollo. Not only did it save me from countless bad clicks (Rick Rolls haha), but also time saved with previews and not needing to load a full page or just make it easier to tap a link between things in a cluttered post.

I had to restore my iPhone because I had it replaced, and now I can’t log in to lemmy.ml? When I tried logging in to the app

Hey Memmy devs and app users,

I asked you folks about whether you were considering charging a fee or subscription for app users the other day (a lo Apollo) the other day and thanks for your answer. Respect your vibe.

Anyhow, I would also like to contribute to the instance I have my profile on and thought it would be great if there were a way of enabling it within Memmy (or under its future name), for ease of function, “basically”. Maybe this is too much of an ask. Maybe Apple fees get in the way. I have no idea tbh.

What do y’all think? Would love to know

Rotate your phone 90 degrees. Rotate it back. Now there are huge black spaces between comments, and the comment text scrolls off the screen where it can’t be seen anymore. Only fix I’ve found is to close the program and reopen it.

Bug description:

  1. Get a reply to a comment
  2. View your inbox, see that reply
  3. Wonder what your comment was again, and what they are replying to…
  4. Tap their reply

Expect: go to the reply, in context, in the thread, ideally with your comment that they are replying to shown also (wefwef currently does this)

Actual: go to thread, but neither the reply nor your comment are shown - you have to scroll the entire thread and find them

Why a priority? Because this directly impedes back and forth conversation, which is the whole mode of Lemmy.

Appreciate the work. Thanks for hearing this feedback.

e.g. - I tried to pull up https://lemmy.world/c/news, assuming searching communities for "news" would bring it up, but it doesn't show in the community list, even though other local communities like "sportsnews" do. Does the search not work as expected currently?

I know this is a mobile app so people can generally pretty easily put in regular emojis, but Lemmy allows for instances to have custom emojis and I know of at least a few that do. So, having an emoji picker to let people make use of those seems like a good idea.

Also, said custom emojis currently embed the same way as regular images, such that in comments where they are used in-line, it can break up the text in a way that both looks bad and can make things harder to read:

I'm not 100% sure if there's a way to fix the second one since the custom emojis are at the end of the day just images afaik, but if so that would be nice.

I understand there are some filtering options coming in the next update, but it would be awesome to be able to filter an instance right from the main feed without having to actually enter the hentai furry porn instance to filter it from there. It’s a feature that was really awesome in Apollo and it applied immediately, removing the post and any other posts from that instance from the feed right away without having to refresh.

Hi everyone,

We are aware that the TestFlight version is pretty unstable at the moment, with a lot of bugs and crashing. This is because we are in the middle of rewriting our entire state management. We appreciate the testers who let us know what issues there, are but please be respectful when doing so.

If you don't wish to deal with the current instability of the TestFlight version, please download the App Store version as that is meant to be stable. When using TestFlight, you get all the latest features, but that also means you get the latest bugs too :D

As another reminder, creating bug reports in GitHub is still the best way to have your issue addressed.

Thank you to everyone who helps us test Memmy!

Hey guys hopefully I’m just being dumb here. Is there no way currently to edit your posts on Memmy? I posted something and totally messed up the formatting trying to learn how to use Lemmy/Memmy both and can’t figure out how to edit the post to rectify it. Thanks!
