I really like this app! It’s more developed than a lot of other Lemmy third party apps currently. I was wondering if you could make the tabs darker on dark mode because the difference between the black and the tabs look too contrasting in my opinion. I feel like that would make it look more aesthetically pleasing. Thanks.

Just had to share my appreciation for the devs. You guys are killing it - the app seriously feels like a full-release at this point.

So with that said, please take a break and remember that your physical and mental well-being are so much more important than this app.

Great work on the app! I noticed a couple of days ago that the app was using a ton of storage. Deleted the app and reinstalled, less than a week later it’s back up to ~2GB. Haven’t seen anyone else mention it so I just wanted to point it out. Curious to see if everyone else is seeing large amounts of disk consumption.

I added a post in lemmy.world/c/formula1, I get comments on it and I can see it online. However not when I go to the community on memmy, only through my profile by clicking on a comment.

Is there an error in the app or is this maybe something ik my lemmy@world account settings?

When i try to change the haptics settings, it returns to medium

Hey all, this is an update that includes a lot of fixes before the next visual release. Here are the changes that were made:

  • Compact mode now features thumbnails for URLs
  • Adds a clear option to the search bar
  • Adjustable thumbnail in compact mode and the ability to disable the vote icons in compact mode (thanks to https://github.com/qoopa for this)
  • Image animation was tweaked again for your convenience, but it will be reworked here in the near future to act more like Apollo
  • Posts are now marked as read whenever you view them. They will be grayed out in your feed once they are marked as read. Thanks for the help from https://github.com/ktgd
  • You can now select the intensity of haptic feedback (thanks to https://github.com/yrahul3910)
  • There is a font slider to adjust the text size to your liking. No more glasses!
  • Issues where people couldn't post in communities becuase of a language issue are now fixed.
  • Comment and post votes now update when you make a vote
  • Upvote icons and other post action icons are now animated
  • A very terrible animation for comments (I added it in for testing and have not removed it yet. This will be completed in the next update)

This resolves the bulk of bugs that were causing people issues. The next update will be mostly visual changes.

Thanks guys!

Title says it all - love the app but unsure how to clear my post notifications? Nothing seems to work.

Would love to follow the development on Android using Obtainium. Would it be possible to add the apks to the releases in Github or is it iOS testflight exclusive at the moment?

Comparing to Apollo, the haptic feedback in Memmy is more intense when taking action like voting. Apollo gives you just enough to know you’ve taken action, and Memmy feels like someone is flicking my phone with their finger.

If I had to guess, I’d say Apollo is soft and light, and Memmy is heavy and rigid. [https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/playing-haptics](Apple’s HIG for Taptic Engine for reference.)

For me, the difference is at worst mildly unpleasant feeling, but I also use the app before getting out of bed in the morning, and the Memmy haptic audibly resonates through my mattress and has woken up my wife. She is admittedly a light sleeper! I think there’s also a trivial impact to battery.

I propose that this be dialed back in Memmy to levels similar to Apollo, except perhaps when you’ve transitioned to slide to downvote. I could still envision it being useful there.

How do I see which communities I’m subscribed to?

786

With longer titles, the text is cut off although there would still be space in the line.

787

I use SwiftKey and have the problem that when I write a new post with a longer text, SwiftKey covers parts of the input field. I can no longer see what I am writing. My SwiftKey is one line larger than the standard iOS keyboard.

That might be the problem. If I switch to the standard iOS keyboard, I see all the text.

Memmy and Memmy Dracula

Just fucking around with something while watching TV.

While still showing the instance you’re logged in to. That way I can show my friends something on the app without them being able to stalk my account.

Great work on the app btw, it’s awesome.

The GitHub page says that Memmy is also for Android. However, I cannot find anywhere where I can download an .apk to test the app on Android. The releases link on GitHub only reports changelogs.

First off, awesome progress… keep up the great work!

Here are several UX suggestions regarding the functionality of URLs in posts & comments.

  1. Enable setting for user to set browser preference:

In-app browser – Open URLs in Memmy's in-app browser Default browser – Open URLs in device's default browser Select browser – Open URLs in selected browser (provide user ability to pick from installed browsers)

  1. Enable a context menu upon long press of a URL in a post body or comment. Options in the context menu include:

Copy – copies URL to clipboard Open – Open in browser, per browser preference Share – Opens Share Sheet & passes it URL

Question:

URLs are currently opened in Memmy's in-app browser. Do cookies that are set by web pages in the in-app browser persist across Memmy sessions or are they cleared when the app is exited?

Hi, I know the dev is very active, which is great. I was wondering if an expected release date was already set to download the app directly on the App Store without having to download Test Flight? Thanks!

794

I mean seriously mlem didn’t even have search until recently. Memmy had it before mlem. Memmy seems to be developing quicker too and feels more feature complete in my opinion.

Better (granular) ways to sort content: Eg instead of just top day, active, new etc. Instead : active in last 24h, hot in last 24h, top by 12h and top by 6h or 3h Maybe other options also but unsure. Anything extra would help basically.

Easier way to respond to posts. I find replying to someones reply confusing in the app. Im actually not clear how to do it, or how to easily respond to another persons comment. I struggle with this so easier or clearer way would help.

Ways to create favourite groups eg: sometimes I want to get a pulse on just the news so would help to be able to group some communities just about news and have them display their posts rather than having to go to each one one at a time, or even more helpful would be to be able to add some communities on this group I don’t subscribe. Having multiple of these groups would be idea that can allow me to change between based on what I am looking for. Unclear if this is possible or just a pipe dream.

Some buttons I sometimes cant click on like the upvote button occasionally. Unclear if a bug or the button is just too small to register my finger. Only have a iphone with a smaller screen. Would help of these buttons always worked.

Sorry for posting. Its not a list of demands I promise. This app is just the best there is and seems like right now nothing can stop its meteoric development so just putting in my 2c while the rockets are on full blast. Crazy how much it has improved.

796

I wish my stupid brain would stop trying to tap these. I know I can swipe, and I know the upvote icons are on the other side.

797

When selecting text to add a link, it does the other way around and adds the selected text in the link area, and puts the cursor in the title area.

798

What I said in the title. This is the first Lemmy app that gives me Apollo vibes when I use it. The new themes are just chef’s kiss. Phenomenal work! It’s not Apollo yet, but this is the app that gets me thinking that Lemmy could be a long term thing for me. Well done!!

Hey everyone, not sure if you know me but I'm the one who did the UI/UX redesign for Memmy. I hope that you're all enjoying the redesign and that it's helped you settle in nice and cosy.

We've had several questions asked about mod tools and when they're coming. We definitely know this is an important feature but we have one major problem. None of us are moderators.

I've been going back and forth on designs on what I think a good interface would look like but my mission is futile since I don't really know how the flow of it should feel, which is paramount to good UX.

That's where you come in. I need ideas on what you want to see, how your moderation flow works or what would work best for you. Is there a certain feature that you just can't live without or a way of moderation that is practically engraved in your DNA? I want to hear about it.

Unfortunately, I'm limited by the somewhat limited number of tools that Lemmy provides. But I can work on making sure using those tools feel seamless.

I'm looking for feedback on these things.

  • How should you access these tools? Should it be always active on communities you moderate, be able to be toggled? When you're in a post, how do you want to use them?
  • I'm considering a moderation centre at the moment. What would you like it to contain?
  • What are the most important things to you? How should they be displayed and in what order by importance?

These are just a few ideas of course, I'm always open to feedback. You can find me on here or at our Discord server at https://discord.gg/guKywNycrY

I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say on this so I can get to work instead of procrastinating on maritime history videos.
