Memmy - An iOS client for Lemmy

Congrats @memmy for being in the AppStore! Love this app, never want to use the default lemmy front end.

This is a post that should have a YouTube link but it doesn’t appear when I open it in Memmy. It works fine in WefWef.

Any ideas?

I’d like different color themes for each instance, to help me keep track of which instance I’m on.

Is there a way to search posts within a community?

I see there is a NSFW filter but is there or is it planned to have a text / post filter? I would really love of not see the constant posts about what is going on at Reddit or Twitter anymore. I left, I am done with that.

Is there an easy way to brows/add new communities and follow users from within the app? I will fully accept “read the documentation” as an answer!! Thanks!!

I’m really enjoying this app so far for the past while. It’s the fastest Lemmy client I’ve seen so far, and I like the UI. It reminds me of Apollo. I have a few feature requests that I feel like would be nice in the app.

1. An ability to save drafts of posts would be nice. I don’t know if it’s in Lemmy itself, but if this isn’t in Lemmy itself, then disregard this request.

2. I’ve asked this on TestFlight, but I figured it might be easier to put it in here, so I think it’d be cool if there was a display total score for comments as well.

3. An option in settings to remove the text thumbnail for text-only posts. There was a setting for this in Apollo that I really liked and it’s the only thing stopping me from using the compact post style as my main style.

4. I put this on TestFlight as well, but having a way to view all comments under a post after clicking on a reply from the inbox would be useful. When you click on a reply from your inbox, it only shows your comment and the reply so there’s no way to check the full thread or check out other comments under the post. I could’ve sworn that was already implemented, so it might be a bug, but if it isn’t a bug, it would be a massively useful feature.

P.S: I’m glad Memmy finally released to the App Store! Thanks for all the hard work y’all do.

Edit: 5. I think the ability to swipe to view the next image for a post with multiple images would be cool as well, or like the images to appear in the post at the places the OP put it at.

Thank you for all your support over the past weeks. It’s helped us get to this point.

A word of caution: The build that was released is slightly outdated and there are a few issues that have already been addressed in that build. Unfortunately because you can’t replace the build in review, we were not able to update it as we went through this nearly week-long back and forth with Apple. It required an appeal to get us onto the store.

With that said, I’ll be releasing the final version of 0.0.2 tonight to TestFlight, and will begin build versioning starting at 0.1.0, which will be the next release on the store. I’ll try and have something submitted to them tonight and hopefully it will be reviewed and released within a day or so.

I'll update this post here in a few hours with more information. Tonight's build will include another list of bug fixes as well as vast improvements to the slide to upvote/comment feature (no more glitching, hopefully) as well as hopefully fixing a few issues with the image viewer.

This should give us a fairly stable release which I will submit to Apple for review. Thankfully, now that we have completed the initial review future updates should be much quicker (likely around 12-24 hours per update).

This was something I loved about Apollo - after posts were marked as read (which you could mark as read if you scrolled past) the posts would be hidden when you refresh. Helped me keep my reading in order.

How can I view more than two pictures per post.

For example: a post has 8 pictures, but only 2 are displayed, how do I get the other 6?

is there a way to see a communites all time top posts or does it only go back to the top of the week?

I'm not sure if this is in the pipeline, but it would be very useful to save individual comments and it looks like the API supports that. I think all you would have to do is add functionality to make the API call to showActionSheetWithOptions in useComments.ts and then add the option to the options constant above it but I'm not sure.

Regardless, I'm really enjoying the app!

Edit: you would probably want to check the CommentView to see if the comment is saved, then change the options constant accordingly, then toggle the save parameter for SaveComment.

Not a karma whore, and its not the end of the world, but i just noticed my post score dropped down to 0 today.

Checked it in wefwef app too and its showing the same bug. Curious if any others here have noticed this as well?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but how do you reply to a comment on a post. I tried long pressing the comment and hitting the options for it but no luck. I feel stupid lol

If you go into the comments and collapse the second level reply to a first level reply to the post, and then try to collapse the first level as well, the app doesn’t behave correctly and instead expands to show the replies in the third level.

Apologies if this is worded poorly!

With the latest release (0.0.2.17) images are not longer centered when in landscape, perfectly fine in portrait.

Btw., is it ok to discuss bugs here or should bug reports better filled in Github directly?

I’m not sure if I’m the only one with this problem. On the attached screenshot you see a Lemmy post that has a linked entry. I could not figure out how to click whatever link the OP gave.

I had to open it up with mlem where there it is clear.

I see a lot of comments which include pictures when viewed from other apps, missing the pics entirely in Memmy. I’m not 100% sure but I think this happens with Imgur pictures?

Edit: it’s not only Imgur. I just wrote a comment to a post (using Memmy) where I attached a picture from my photos and while the pic shows on all other apps, it doesn’t show on Memmy, I see just the text of my comment

The bug mentioned here has returned in the latest build.

Think this is related to fixing the load all comments issue.

Still fighting with Apple...unfortunately today's rejection was an invalid one. The reviewer somehow "missed" the entirety of the conversation with the last one, and didn't realize that everything that was requested had been implemented and resolved...

I've submitted a response to that as well as escalated it to an appeal. Hopefully today we will hear something back.

Here are the changes made in this version:

• Sharing images inside of the image viewer will now download the image to be shared as an image, not as a link
• Link helper respects the theme and uses the URL keyboard for the link
• The post viewport should respect keyboard height and fill the remainder of the space
• Read icon now uses the correct theme/accent color (thanks ktgd)
• All /c/community links should now work (thanks ktgd)
• The last account you used is now remembered (thanks jderose)
• Search will automatically take you to the community or user if you include the @instance
• All refresh controls will respect the theme (no longer invisible)
• Added top hour, top six hours, and top twelve hours (I need to add them to defaults, I’ll do that here in a bit)
• Fixed image save/share not being present in compact mode
• Made sure that images that are both present in the URL and in the body of the post don’t show up twice
• Profile reload issues (i.e. if it fails to load) should be fixed
• Link info not displaying in posts is now fixed
• Blur respects the current theme
• Voting on a post in search now reflects that vote
• Modifications to the profile screen. This will help with load times when all you’re doing is looking at someone’s profile
• Performance improvements in the feed
• Performance improvements in comments
• Collapsing large comment chains no longer causes freeze/crash
• Performance improvements in profile
• Performance improvements in inbox

The next update should include post deletion/editing as well as the remainder of the missing items in the inbox. Additionally, we have a much better slider available now for comments/posts voting so we will be implementing that.

It feels weird having it there in big bold letters all the time. I sometimes want to show someone a post or talk about lemmy in general, but I’m apprehensive about them learning my account name.
