Memmy - An iOS client for Lemmy

Feature request: Could there be an option added to hide subscribed communities when viewing the all or local feed? This is something I really miss from Apollo.

Bug report: when creating a post an error message keeps appearing saying something about language not supported. In checking the web ui the create post includes a language setting that is missing in the app. Can this be added or even defaulted to a preset choice?

Reproduced in latest release today. When I swipe left on a comment in Inbox to reply to it, it just hides it. If I go to the All view and re-swipe left, it'll open the reply dialog. So it appears to only be a bug if you have the view set to Unread.

Hey all!

We got an approved TF version up earlier, should have another one today and that will be submitted to review. I anticipate it would be reviewed either overnight or sometime tomorrow (Apple does do reviews on the weekend thankfully)

I want to clear up two items real quick:

1. There are edge cases where the app will ask you for access to the local network. This is related to an issue where if an image is linked that is, for some reason, on an internal network (i.e. 192.168.1.1), the app tries to access that to cache the image. Obviously it doesn't exist, but because it's trying to make a local network connection, iOS displays this warning.

For an example of this, please visit my profile in-app and hit posts. I've made a test post inside of /c/test that will trigger the issue. Feel free to just deny access, there's literally no reason to have this enabled.

2. Just to clear up some questions about what the device ID is used for, there's a comment chain here about all of this in full detail.

TLDR is that it is used for push notifications, and because the auth token from Lemmy we need technically would let us also see your email address, we have to disclose this as being linked to your identity.

If you do not enable push notifications, there is zero information sent to us from the app. And if you do, the only time that traffic is sent from the app is when you enable or disable notifications.

I don’t know if others miss this function too but I really do. So I thought I’d share this with the community:

There was this little button on the bottom right in Apollo. By pressing it you could jump to the next root in the comments. It would be a great feature to have in memmy. What’s your thought about this?

Smooth as fuck, you guys are absolutely killing it

A lot of the time it takes a long time for a comment to post in Memmy. It also almost always gives me a json token error but then when I click cancel to close the post comment view I see that my comment was submitted and shows up.

Any one else having this problem?

This might be a stupid question but how do I post an image in Memmy? Does I have to host the image and then link? I can’t seem to see how I can access my camera roll?

Edit:

When using an iPad in landscape mode, text lines in posts and comments are very wide. An option to reduce the width of the posts and comments to about 1/3–1/4 of the screen width, like Apollo did by default, would improve readability. Please consider this layout option if there is support for it.

Hello, just downloaded memmy today. Kinda like the ui, not gonna lie. Now, there’s an issue. My instance is .world but the posts from other communities don’t seem to appear even when going into that community. Does someone has the same problem?

Is it possible to have an alphabetic order with favorite tab within the traverse tab?

I added an screenshot of how Apollo did it because, I know my explanation is a bit vague.

I love the smooth animations of the swipe actions and I really appreciate puting the community name at the top of the post where the username used to be. For me personally it’s more important to see in which community something was posted rather than the username.

One thing I noticed is that is more difficult now to see where a comment ends since there isn’t any separator.

How do I search posts within a community, is that possible?

Also, is it possible to just browse through communities? I know I can search for communities but I’d like to just be shown a load of them and browse through them to see if anything catches my fancy.

Congrats for launching! Today is my first day into Lemmy and also Memmy!

However, there is this issue that I’m facing.

this is a post that external website link is linked . But when I click into the post , I can’t seem to find or see the link to redirect to the website. Am I missing something out?

Congratulations 🎉 to Memmy for Lemmy on achieving the number 24 position in the top social network applications in the German App Store. This is quite remarkable, considering that Lemmy is still a niche platform.

I’d love a search feature on the community page. Not sure if I missed something but I wanted to search about a profile issue I’m seeing before posting - but wasn’t sure how.

My main issue is my Profile tab. It just doesn’t load for me. I’m not sure if it’s just an instance issue, I’m on the lemmy.world

Can anyone else on this instance see the Profile tab loading?

I am so glad I just found this app. I’ve looked for a free service for this exact thing for so long but never been able to find one without limits.

I know it’s not Memmy related but it’s from the dev. I just wanted to give a shoutout for this app. If anyone needs to sync or swap music from one service to another check it out! You’re seriously a life saver

With that said, congrats on Memmy on the App Store!! It’s an amazing app. It was awesome getting it in TestFlight and seeing it grow with all the updates

Love the Memmy app, great work! Not sure if this has been suggested before but one of the things I’m missing is the ability to scrub through a GIF I’m viewing full screen. It was such a fun little feature to be able to manually slomo a GIF, replay parts, go frame by frame, etc. Thanks!
