Since this morning (europe time) my Memmy app is unable to load any posts. I can see my own comments in the profile-tab, but nothing else. I've tried logging out and in again and also switching to an alternate account, but the app only works when I use the Testflight version.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? What can I do/try to fix this?

If you have multiple accounts, Memmy will allow you to remove one. But if you only have one account, you seemingly can’t remove an account or log out without reinstalling the app.

From what I understand on Lemmy, Mastodon and kbin, they are all in some way connected.

Is it possible to add Mastodon accounts in Memmy (e.g. mastodon.design)?

Improved the separator between comments.

What it looks like:

What it should look like imo:

I think it makes more sense like this.

This is only a rough sketch, not perfect by any means.

Sorry for not censoring the names, I'm on my phone.

Edit: If you can only see one image, try Lemmy in browser. Link to view post in browser: https://lemmy.ml/post/1906046

After chaos has been restored, I “deleted” my account from Memmy (would be better to be called remove in my opinion), and the readded my account. The push notification toggle automatically is set to on (as it was before deleting), but notifications don’t come through.

So, I tried to disable push notifications in order to reenable them. However, the progress circle spins forever and it seems like it cannot be done.

That is all. Pretty tired, going to sleep. Enjoy everyone!

Big QOL update will be coming later this week <3

Note

This information is based off of early reports I have seen. I don't claim to know the extent to which any damage was done and as such recommend a password reset (two-factor authentication would not be of use if authentication tokens were compromised), but we do know that this was a Javascript injection.

Update

As of right now, it seems that the vulnerability should have only exposed JWTs, which have been invalidated by those instance administrators. I'd still recommend a password rotation just because, but you should be alright.

==========

With the recent Lemmy.world incident, I'd like to update you all. This vulnerability could not have affected you had you been using only Memmy while browsing. It was a Javascript injection, and as Memmy does not execute any Javascript, there is no attack surface here.

The only case where this could have affected you would be if you had been signed in to your account inside of the in-app browser or the default browser and opened one of these posts. That however would not be something with Memmy itself, but rather the accessing of the PWA.

Regardless, as we don't actually know what happened, I'd recommend changing passwords. If any JWTs were compromised during this, regardless of 2FA status these tokens could be used to authenticate with your account.

From what I have seen, this was an issue that was limited to Lemmy.world, as supposedly they were running a custom frontend build. Other than that, I don't know anything else.

Also, for the record, there is only one instance in this application where a webview is used, which is when viewing the terms of service which simply loads a local file from the app assets.

Any questions, I'll try to answer them but you'd be better off asking people more knowledgeable about the incident.

As always, this is a good time to go over your online security practices.

It is strongly recommended that you use a password manager such as Bitwarden or 1Password if you do not use one already. This can help prevent credential surfing if you have used the same password over many sites, preventing you from having several of your accounts breached from a single breach.

If you have used a password on Lemmy.world that you have used on other sites, you should change those other sites passwords immediately.

Email addresses may have been breached during the attack and this may result in increased spam and phishing emails. It is strongly advised that you throughly verify any emails that you receive after this, particularly ones relating to login requests, messages from banks or payment providers, such as PayPal or government institutions.

Thank you for using Memmy and stay safe!

Hey all. I got the most recent update of the app and I can’t seem to find the thumbnail view. Is it still around?

I am able to log in using web browser but Memmy doesn't let me. I have modified my password to a shorter and simpler one per github suggestion but still doesn't work. any one knows how it can be fixed?

I increased my system font and you can see the second line on the header under my profile name is now overlapping outside of the header area.

The following markdown

{学校|がっこう}

Will become this:

{学校|がっこう}

Although I suppose you won't see it unless you're on the web version, and only if the web version is using 0.18.1

Sorry if this question is stupid or repetitive - new to Lemmy and Memmy!

Still having to close the app and reopen every time I forget that this feature is broken. Loving the swipe features though! Smooth!!

440

  • scrolling is excellent. some apps that have swiping gestures trigger swiping when I scroll an it gives me a headache.

  • the top right button on the feed page need some separation between them and the sized could be increased a touch.

  • when opening a comment, either from your profile or from inbox there's no option to expand the full context or show all comments.

  • in the traverse tab it would be good to have along with subscribed ones (which I think it what it shows right now) have a tab for federated and All.

  • Move the account switcher from the top of the feeds tab to a long press on the profile tab.

  • Search, how does trending communities work? the "trending" communities have zero subscribers and no content (not sure if this is a bug or if this is the data that Lemmy provides to you, sorry if you have no control over it).

  • on the profile tab, have the default view be a combined posts and comments view.

  • can the community name on posts be a bit bigger and have option to include the favicon?

  • add more "sort by X" options like sort by top hour, etc

that all being said the app has been rock solid for it's initial release. I unfortunately can't review it because I'nm running beta software (iOS 17) but once it goes gold in September I'll definitely be dropping a review on whatever version is out.

First of all, thanks for an amazing app! Feels like early Apollo and it's great.

Do you have plans of supporting GIFs? Showing as an image and playing when clicking it. Perhaps an auto-play setting as well that is off by default.

Thanks!

EDIT: Added issue on GitHub.

I switched over to a personal Lemmy instance I started, and push notifications haven't worked since doing so. I have the setting enabled in the app; I'm just not getting any notifications. Is there a way to try and diagnose this further?

443

As the title says. 2nd bug: I'm forced to add a photo in a bug report, so I added a random picture.

Memmy seems to default to the oldest account created in the app. For me, that account is tied to an instance that is gone (hopefully temporarily). Opening Memmy, however, it attempts to login to that account each time.

This sometimes causes glitches, at least with the Search and Profile functions. Even after manually switching to a different account, Memmy is sometimes “stuck” on the default one for those screens.

Is there a way to change how Memmy chooses which account to login to at launch? If not, I would love if that feature could be added.

Thank you for the fantastic app.

Really annoying, is there a way to fix this on IOS Memmy?

446

When in system light mode, the text in between the notches remain white, so you cannot see them.

I have accidentally upvoted two things that I did not intend. I don’t intend to ever swipe to upvote - but I would like to swipe to go back. Is there anyway to make the swipe to upvote a choice?

Hi guys,

I’m aware it’s not really cricket to start comparing different lemmy apps when they are still so young. I was just wondering having read a post for mlem. Such a sidebar would be a great addition. It would free a spot on the bottom bar. What is now “traverse” could be the sidebar in “feed” you could use this space in the bottom bar for a dedicated settings tab.

449

Is there a way to see posts I have upvoted? I like upvoting things, then being able to view them later. Is that a feature of memmy at this time?

If I use the Lemmy mobile site on Safari the posts show up, with comments and everything, but in the app it's like an empty community.
