I like how long the battery lasts on the k400, the range, and it's such a nice accessory for when I'm on the couch and navigating my PC from the television. Having trackpad right there is great too.

But, the typing experience is really lacking. Has there been any quality options to this?

Given that metal doesn't work well with connections. I'm looking at a Zoom ee V2 or waiting for a 65% with Bluetooth. Missed the GB for a recent one I think.

It’s going to be a 24 key, choc keyboard with a 2” TFT screen in the centre block. Running off a Blackpill with per-key RGB, and the switches will be sunsets.

I’m still very much a novice at Blender, so this is basically just an stl export from OpenSCAD with some colour and lighting. Given that, logos and whatnot aren’t shown.

But Gerber files and component stl files are with jlcpbc waiting for printing.

Given the overlap in interests between mechanical keyboards and Lemmy, I thought some of you might be able to make use of this macro.

When you open a Lemmy link in a new tab and trigger the macro, it'll switch to the tab and automatically search the URL on lemm.ee, then open the first result. You could pretty easily swap it over to another instance that you have an account on, but you'll have to count the tabs yourself if they have some extra links or buttons or something.

Pretty simple, but it's been really useful to make browsing and posting between different fediverse platforms much smoother. Hopping from Calckey over to Lemmy and getting to the particular instance I need feels a lot more seamless now. If you run into issues with some instances not federating with one another, you could also easily set a second macro with another instance for those communities that have defederated from one another, such as open-registration communities and human-verified ones if you prefer one or the other.

I'm honestly still kind of blown away by just how much smoother a few macros can make day-to-day PC use.

I'm curious what others have made with VIA and how it's affected their every day experience and their work flow. What unique VIA macros have you made? Have you made anything that might make Fediverse integration a little smoother?

Anyway, here it is so you can try it out! It should be pretty simple to modify or make your own from scratch!

The Keychron Q8. I really love the Alice layout and the QMK/VIA software is a great addition for my workflow. The body being aluminum is nice too, really heavy, feels solid.

This was a new-in-box Lexmark-branded Model M13, a buckling spring keyboard with a nub/nipple/whatever-you-call-it stick! Unlike most IBM-branded versions, Lexmark-branded M13s use a different kind of sensor array for the stick (force-sensing resistors instead of strain gauges) hence why Lexmark doesn't brand this as "TrackPoint". Like Unicomp EnduraPro sticks, it moves like a little joy-stick instead of remaining stationary. Instead of dual PS/2 plugs, this model has an AT full-DIN plug for the keyboard and DE-9 RS232 serial plug for the nub. For more info, see my IBM Model M13 wiki page!

In the box was also a driver disk (an image of which will soon be archived on my website and archive.org) and various Lexmark literature including a snazzy Lexmark Model M family pamphlet, a keyboard operator's guide (user guide) and something that dictates how you're supposed to a sit at a computer desk.

Upon opening, the cable quickly degraded and started shedding everywhere. In lieu of a replacement, I've tapped and wrapped already damaged parts, used cable ties to limit possible flex and left most of the cable alone in the original packing. For now though, the keyboard and cable remains operational.

Hey there,

Referring to around 1m40s in the attached Ben Vallack video, he refers to a transparent solder mask to show the traces on the pcb clearly. He’s using pcbway, which seems to be considerably more expensive than jlcpcb who I usually use for my prints.

Does anyone know if jlcpcb has this same capability, and if so what the settings are?

Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for software to control macros and lighting for keychron on Linux?

Steelseries M400 UK keyboard with Monster Doubleshot SA profile keycaps. As you can see the space bar wasn’t compatible with the keyboard, RIP!

My new custom WASD keycaps with NEO2 legends have arrived. I wanted nicely readable legends for the layers I used most, not for all as the predesigned caps offered. I also had problems with the color coding, which emphasized the wrong layers.

At the beginning, I had plans to turn my own handwriting into letters, but that proved too much of a task for the time I had, so I just went with stock symbols and Comic Sans.

I also considered having black keycaps, but after I studied up on the finer points of laser printing on dark base colors - bright colors require a white underprint -, I decided to go with colors on wite for crisp outlines.

All in all I am very happy with the result. My children begged me to give them a chance, so I hand wrote QWERTZ legends on the sides.

I picked up a glove80 ergo mech, coming from a regular split keyboard, and am having a hard time adjusting. Got a couple questions. 1. For those of you that use tiling window managers like i3 or sway, or anything with a mod key, what do you use for your mod key? The "System" key on this board is so far away that my thumb really needs to stretch to get to it; not sure if there are similar issues with other thumb clusters. 2. are there any good typing practice sites or games you would recommend, especially those that emphasize special characters, numbers, and mod keys in the thumb cluster?

This took me like 5 minutes to type lol

My current earliest IBM Model M based keyboard, and one of the earliest Model Ms ever recorded! Whilst the overall assembly design 'language' is clearly Model M, there are some unique features to such early IBM Wheelwriter 5 (and Wheelwriter 3 and Quietwriter 7) keyboards including O-rings around each populated buckling spring barrel and 'cushionless' flippers.

See my website for more info on Model M family keyboards and buckling springs!

This post was originally posted on r/mk in 2023. I’m manually moving my content here before probably nuking my reddit account. Fuck that little pigboy u/spez.

I have a "rare" layout. ISO French and all-1U bottom right cluster. For years I struggled to get decent keycaps. I could either make do with uniform height keycaps or get them printed. For years, there were very few alternatives. My previous keycap set was printed by MaxKeyboard, but they never felt very good. So when I heard that a small company (Goblin Tech Keys) made custom dyesub keycaps, I decided to give them a shot.

details

The positives:

  • Custom PBT dyesub keycaps yay!
  • They're a very small team, and customer support is very personal
  • Printing quality is great
  • I spoke with them about my weird layout, they sent me a template file within minutes.
  • It took them less than a week to print and ship everything. I'm still waiting for my KAT GB from 2021.

The negatives:

  • When I spoke to them about some of the bigger issues, they said they would send replacements but never did.

What's not good but was probably my fault

  • Color accuracy probably would have been better if I used a CMYK colorspace instead of RGB.
  • Geometric backgrounds with lots of straight lines shared between keycaps should be avoided. Background alignment is a mess. Some backgrounds parts were moved or missing because they rework the template files. Legends alignment is fine.

It took 3 working days to get here from Malaysia with DHL (seriously, fuck those thieving cunts at DHL tho).

All in all, I still love my new keycaps :)

Board : XD64

Switches : Boba U4

Keycaps : Dyesub PBT OEM Profile, design by me, printed by Goblin Tech Keys

Hello! Just ordered my first mechanical keyboard, Keychron V1. Pre shopping around for some keycaps. What are some good/reliable sites to order them from? There seems to be such a large range of websites online. I found a set that I like from flashquark. Is that a reputable site?

Got my stuff in the mail today, RyeWorks M0110 black with knock off apes keycaps and kailh box deep sea pro linears.

Now begins the process of adjusting from a 75%, super happy with how it turned out and going from a block of aluminum to a plastic case is a lovely change of pace.

Hi there,

Does anyone have suggestions on where I could by legs similar to those found on the ErgoDox that could be attached directly to a pcb (glue or M2 screws)? Looking for a tenting mechanism for a new custom board.

Note: I’m aware ErgoDox sells the tenting system independently for US$25, however I would then need a way to attach these to the board. They don’t state what the thread size is, etc.

I'm looking for a keycap set for the Keychron Q11. I may stick with the stock set, just because the Q11 has R1-R4 macro keys on the left-side (see here).

Would take any recommendations. I guess maybe something that is XDA, DSA, or KAM would be good, since all the keys are the same profile, right?

Was looking at these (I could probably move enough keys around to fill in the 5 macro caps).

I really like the Q11, but am thinking aftermarket keycaps might be a PITA...

For the Keychron Q10 I use at the office, Gateron Reds out, Gazzew Boba U4s in! 62g for the silent ones and 68g for the U4T on the F-row. Bonus Kailh Box Navys for the macro keys.

Inspired by u/defaultnamespace (l don‘t really know how and if user tagging works… I just linked to the profile!)

Some content for lemmy. HMKB-90 with /dev/tty caps and self-lubed Glorious Pandas. Took me forever to lube especially because of the awful ping noise of the pandas.
