I'm new to Mastodon code and find it hard to understand exactly how some components are drawing and getting their data - If anyone could lend a hand or just answer a few questions, it would be amazing!

I'm also looking for admins who can install/test a branch or patch that extends the verify system in some nifty ways.

Please if you are familiar or just run your own instance, reach out because your help is greatly appreciated and could make the world a safer place.

I've had a Mastodon account in the "mstdn.social" instance for more than a year. But since today I cannot log in in that account, neither via app (Tusky) nor in my laptop browser.

But there's more: I can't even open anything related with that instance without getting an ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT screen.

I'm creating a new account in other instance, but when I try to migrate my old account data it says that my old account cannot be found. And now I'm wondering if they are having problems or if that instance is definitely shut down.

Is anyone else having the same issues? How can I know for sure if the instance is being deleted?

So, my instances have been offline for the better part of a month, and I haven't had a lot of time or energy to fix the problem I caused trying to update to 4.2.1.

At what point is it not worth restoring an instance and best to just start from scratch? I don't want to end up burning more domains and user names, but it's a question since a lot of that stuff doesn't get purged I don't think from other servers, specifically the encrypted keys and identity information.

I am trying to get my instances back online, but the new update made it where my multi-instance setup wasn't as easy to maintain. Not sure if I just need to add the information for the ports to the new streaming.service files like before or not, but wanted to try and get a Docker install going.

... It's not going well.

Everytime I start modifying the docker-compose.yml file as instructed since I am not modifing the code, and want elasticsearch enabled, I get key not found where expected line 2.

The white space rules for yml are kicking my ass and I don't care for it.

Any help either on this or just getting my old setup functioning properly would be appreciated.

I just inherited a Mastodon server that was on 3.5.1. I've got it upgraded to 3.5.15, which appears to the be latest version of the 3.5 branch. Which branch should I upgrade to now? 4.x, 4.1.x, or 4.2.x?

I see no arrows for browsing through uploaded images in gallery with mouse.

Is this a miss, or is it turned off on instance in which I am?

I'd expect it to be normal to be able to click on arrows and browse through images with ease.

Those 3 dots below are too small to actually do anything, and doing this with a keyboard is a hassle,

when I'm used to browse galleries with my mouse.

I've got two domains that I registered to setup regional instances of Mastodon for New York City and Los Angeles. They cost a lot to get the initial registration and I thought they'd be less expensive to renew. Turns out that is not the case, so I'd like to sell them at cost to someone that will put them to use. LinkedIn and other popular social sites are offering more options to verify that work for more people in more geographies.

To build trust the Mastodon way, is to avoid surrender of private documents and rely on digital counterparts instead. Mastodon profiles already showcase verified links with a green checkmark because people trust more when they are able to confirm and share more pieces of their identity.

Unfortunately, this task requires technical expertise and the process isn’t easily portable to other Mastodon Instances.

I'm currently using Mastodon 2.2.1 for Android, and lately I have been seeing a lot of very long posts in my feed - like, 10,000+ characters.

Is there a way (or a different app) to truncate this automatically in my feed?

My account is set to automatically allow users to follow me. But I got two accounts I had to approve. It said at the top of the "follower request" that although my account is not locked Mastodon.social staff want you to approve these users manually. Does this happen with suspicious accounts? I'm just curious.

I started to really build my following on Mastodon when Twitter fired their accessibility team, which was the same time as all the other Twitter disasters that drove people away. However, I had it really easy: I'm blind, in the blind community, and follow lots of others in that community, so I just needed to look through people's followers and shout about my username and instance, and everything came together. I have people who have expressed interest in joining but who are not blind or part of any other specific community like that; they just want to check it out. I'm not really sure what that's like, and not sure what to recommend to them either. Are there some hashtag lists anywhere so people can find posts/users that align with whatever they might be interested in? How do "normal people" find their people?

Hello, I'm a heavy RSS feeds user and I group my RSS in topics/channels/views.

Is it possible to do this in a specific Mastodon client? I would like to be able to put specific accounts I follow as well as specific hashtags into such a view/channel on my client.

Example: general/local news, specific community, etc.
