I don't see a way to block individual users' posts from showing up in my feeds. There is no "Block" button on any user's page like there is for communities. For some reason I thought there was a way to do this before, but maybe I was just using another frontend? I see some users are blocked when checking my settings. I made sure to disable uBlock Origin to check if it could be an element hiding rule.

For the record these aren't rule breaking users or anything, but instead bots that automatically post things, some of them pulling links straight from reddit. I prefer my Lemmy being populated by humans.

Thank you!

We have a new front end for our users to try out. Photon is my favourite of the three front ends we have enabled. It's clean and modern, and for those of you who moderate communities, it has good access to moderation tools!

Give it a try at https://phtn.lemmy.blahaj.zone/

ID: A screenshot of a post on lemmy accessed via blahaj.zone, in light mode.

the text and secondary UI elements are too difficult to see, and i have no idea how to change the theme since i couldn't find the setting in my Account Settings page on desktop. any ideas how to fix? thank you

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes.
If I add spaces to the beginning of a line,

the text is rendered like this.

Is there a way to have actual spaces in the beginning of a line?

As I myself am still pretty new to running Community's, it be nice to have moderators with experience who can help and Guide me trough things.

For example, non of my Community's have any rules established yet, and I gotta figure out what Rules to put up for them.

The Community's in question are: !catposting@lemmy.blahaj.zone !trams_trolleys_streetcars@lemmy.blahaj.zone !thegametheorists@lemmy.blahaj.zone !creep_podcast@lemmy.blahaj.zone !oldtimers_youngtimers@lemmy.blahaj.zone And lastly, !touch_fluffy_tail@ani.social

Some of these, particularly Catposting and Trams have been slowly but surely getting more popular, reaching over 200 Subscribers recently. Though, thus far I only really had to take moderative actions once across all Communitys, in the months they have been a thing. So it is rather chill. I reccon 1 or 2 Moderators would be just enough

Ofcourse you can choose which one you'd like to help out with! I reccon making a Discord or something like that for solid communication would also happen.

My DMs and Comments under here are Ofcourse open! (Though I might be a bit slow to respond as I got a very long Night shift in front of me)

I'll look forward to hearing from you guys!

I suppose the answer could apply to any instance, but I'm mostly referring to this one.

Mind you, I don't have two accounts, but I'm considering it: one for memes, the other for serious discussion.

But I'm unsure if that's considered bad form by most people, so I thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

EDIT: Also, come to think of it, even if it were okay, would it even be possible to have to be logged into two separate accounts on the same instance at the same time with the same browser profile? :/

Lately, when I load up lemmy.blahaj.zone, the notification bell in the corner of the screen doesn't display a count typically until I load a post or comment.

It's also only a recent thing.

Any idea what might be causing it?

Not sure what other details you might need, so just ask if you think of anything. :)

Introducing !random@lemmy.blahaj.zone , the place where there's no set topic. This is where you can ask questions about random stuff, share a cool fun fact you found, vent about stuff, or whatever else you want.

You can post and share whatever you want, provided it does not promote misinformation, isn't spam, and isn't hateful/bigoted.

I made this because I find myself wanting to post stuff, but there's no community where it would fit. So now there's a community for it to fit.

Hey, so I'm on a different instance, and I hope it's not out of place for me to post here. I really like Mbin for its design and features, and I made this account specifically for interacting with LGBTQ+ posts.

Anyway, there are a few things I'd like to discuss, if that's okay.

First, I'd like to know if it's necessary for me to report posts if they've already been reported on Blahaj. Like, is it just a federation delay that causes the bad posts to still be visible for a while, or is my reporting necessary to get them removed?

I've noticed that the recent troll posts are coming from lemmy.today and eviltoast.org, and I'm wondering if these instances should maybe be considered for de-federation from Blahaj. It seems like one or two users are ban-evading by making new accounts on these two instances. Are there any legit users that would be affected by this de-federation?

Also, I wonder if I made a mistake by boosting a few threads recently. Like did I accidentally get the attention of these transphobes? Should I refrain from boosting?

Again, I hope it's okay for me to post this here.

Can't upload images (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Edit: Seems to be working again. Thanks to whomever thanks are due.

When trying in the app I use, Sync for Lemmy, I get a generic error message after a bit.

Thought it might be app related so I tried on the Web version, at lemmy.blahaj.zone, where I get the following error message:

{"data":{"error":"unknown","message":"Request error: error sending request for url (http://pict-rs:8182/image): operation timed out"},"state":"success"}

Ever since I started out here 9 Months ago, there has been nothing more confusing then getting GIFs and Videos to display properly.

I've tried hosting them on lemmy.blahaj.zone, Ingur, Imgflip and some free hosting sites yet non seem consistent enough across all apps/sites.

I myself use Boost for lemmy, if it loads just good for me it loads for no one else. If it doesnt load for me it works for some others. sometimes it doesnt work for anyone or me. Sometimes it links to a side directly. Sometimes it does 3 really cool flips in the air and gives up after. sometimes using the same hosts yields 2 different Results, like the last 2 GIFs I uploaded and hosted on Imgflip. Its just so inconsistent.

At this point I don't know. So Tl:Dr: What image hosting side work for most people in displaying videos and gifs on most apps?

In the last 24 hours you've likely noticed that we've had some performance issues on Blåhaj Lemmy.

The initial issue occurred as a result of our hosting provider having technical problems. We use Hetzner, who provides hosting for approximately a third of the fediverse, so there was wide spread chaos above and beyond us.

As of lemmy 19.x, messages queue rather than getting silently dropped when an instance is down, so once Hetzner resolved their issues, we had a large backlog of jobs to process. Whilst we were working through the queues, we were operational, but laggy, and our messages were an hour or more behind. These queues aren't just posts and replies, but also include votes, so there can be a large volume of them, each one of which needs to be remotely verified with the sending instance as we process it, so geographical latency also plays a part.

As you can see from the graph, we are finally through the majority of the queues.

The exception is lemmy.world. Unfortunately, the lemmy platform processes incoming messages on a sequential basis (think of it as a sequential queue for each remote instance), which means Blahaj Lemmy can't process a second lemmy.world message until we've finished processing the first message.

Due to the size of Lemmy.world they are sending us new queue items almost as fast as our instance can process them, so the queue is coming down, but slowly! In practical terms, this means that lemmy.world communities are going to be several hours behind for the next few days.

For those that are interested, there is a detailed technical breakdown of a similar problem currently being experienced by reddthat, that explores the impact of sequential processing and geographical latency.

Howdy, y'all. :)

So, within the last couple of days or so, I've been having this problem where if I click on the notification bell, then the chain icon next to a shown reply, then click "Show context" above the horizontal rule (see screenshot), it doesn't proceed to load the context. Rather, it just reloads the same page.

The strange thing is this doesn't happen with every notification. Another notification I had was from here on the Blahaj Lemmy instance, and that worked fine. Maybe it's a thing to do with federation protocols? Anyway, I'm no expert. I just thought I'd ask. :)

Cheers.

Hi all our lovely users,

Just a quick post to let you all know that along-side the upgrade to 0.19.3, we've also added a couple of alternate UIs to the Blåhaj lemmy for you.

Obviously the default lemmy-UI at https://lemmy.blahaj.zone still exists and has been updated to 0.19.3 alongside the lemmy server update.

There's also now an Alexandrite UI at https://alx.lemmy.blahaj.zone which is a more modern, smoother UI, written in svelte, by sheodox.

And then for those who are nostalgic for reddit days of yore, and memories of when PHP websites last ruled the earth, there's MLMYM (courtesy of rystaf) at https://mlmym.lemmy.blahaj.zone.

Please enjoy, and I hope the upgrades work well for you.

The uploaded image is just a test, its supposed to be my profile banner but with animated fire but when I try to upload it as my banner I get a timeout error (jerboa only shows a bit of that error and doesnt let me copy its text) and its always a broken image in previews

Also, the file is .gif but after uploading the link says .webm? Is that normal?

I've seen other people with animated banners and pfps but they were on other instances so I guess it might be an issue on this instance

Upgrade is complete. Please let us know if you have any problems.

Note - for those of you that were using Two Factor Authentication, due to the way lemmy 0.19.x implements 2fa, you will need to re-enable it manually from your settings once you have logged in.

Edit - As a bonus, we have two new interfaces for folk to try

I've been searching for an answer on this, but coming up short. Is there a planned update for Blahaj's lemmy version? I'm really missing that scaled sort option and auto show media of 0.19.3

Whenever I try to add an image either a profile picture or an icon for a community I am managing I get this error. I tried two browsers too. SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data

Im thinking of something like the !trams_trolleys_streetcars@lemmy.blahaj.zone Community I made a while ago, but for Oldtimers, Youngtimers and Vintage Motoring!

This community wouldnt be limited to just old Cars, but things like Bikes and other Vintage Vehicle related things!

The main reason im asking is, since itll be mostly revolving around old Cars people might not like it. but what do you think? if not here, you perhaps got other instances as suggestions?

I’m getting an error when I try to upload pictures that says:

“syntaxerror: JSON

Parse error: Unexpected identifier “Request””

I saw an older thread on here about the same error and it was suggested it could be a file size thing, but the files I’ve tried uploading are around 30-50 kb so I don’t think it’s that.

It doesn’t seem to be an issue with the file itself having something causing an error either, as I’ve tried using image files made on different computers as well.

I've noticed a lack of a general purpose trans community on this instance. The transfem community is disproportionately bigger than the trans masc is, so it seems logical to me that we combine for a general-purpose trans community, similar to r/trans for things that aren't specific to either.

Is there any interest for this idea? Does it already exist on here?

Update: I have created the community. Post away! https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/trans
