Ive been looking to change email providers from gmail to either tuta or mail.org but figure I should change phone OS too.

However I havent been able to find any info on what OS supports Samsung A54 5G devices. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers

Concerning stuff. Hopefully a workaround or solution is found at some point, but if not, I'm already thinking of how to manage without them.

I can't see myself going back to a standard Android phone, so I suppose worse case scenario, I'd have to settle with LineageOS, or potentially abandon Android altogether and see if I can manage with discrete separate devices to fulfill the same needs, such as:

• a pocketable mini-Linux PC like a MNT Pocket Reform, which has the ability to use cellular networks. Should be able to text, browse web, and maybe GPS? Alternatively, perhaps the Mecha Comet?
• Small pocket-able dumb camera
• MP3 player
• Dumb-phone kept in a faraday bag when not in use?

Based in Madrid, Liberux is gaining attention with its Linux smartphones that run on LiberuxOS — a mostly open source operating system built from scratch, completely independent of Android and iOS. Their NEXX line of smartphones distinguishes itself as a Linux phone capable of running standard Linux distributions right out of the box.

Realizing that most people aren’t looking to spend a fortune on niche tech, Liberux recently announced that it was working on a more affordable version to make the NEXX accessible to a broader audience.

As far as I'm concerned, it's exciting to see organizations working to bring Linux phones into the mainstream.

Liberux NEXX: What Does it Offer?

Let’s start with the original model, which is impressive for what it is. It looks like a legit attempt at creating a daily-driver Linux phone that doesn’t feel like a development kit.

The Liberux NEXX features an octa-core Rockchip RK3588S processor (4×Cortex-A76 + 4×Cortex-A55, up to 2.4 GHz), 32 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and a 6.34″ 2400×1080 OLED display.

It includes 512 GB of eMMC storage, which is expandable via microSD (up to 2 TB). Connectivity options include dual USB-C ports, 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Those are solid specs, and the price (~$1,485) shows it. 😲

Enter, The Budget-Friendly Alternative

The Liberux NEXX Community edition serves as a more affordable alternative to the original model while retaining many of its core features.

It includes the same 6.34-inch OLED display, Rockchip RK3588S processor, 32MP rear and 13MP front cameras, dual USB-C ports, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a 5,300 mAh battery, and microSD support up to 2 TB. Both versions run LiberuxOS, a Debian-based Linux operating system.

While the flagship model comes with 32 GB RAM, 512 GB storage, and 5G, the new Community version offers 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, and 4G LTE connectivity. There’s also a mid-range option with 16 GB RAM.

🛒 Getting the Liberux NEXX Community

As with any crowdfunding campaign, delays or changes are expected. Currently available on Indiegogo, the Community model with 8 GB of RAM is priced at approximately $900, excluding shipping costs.

VoLTE support is updated so that it works out-of-box with more carriers (Thanksb to Nikita (@Notkit) from Volla), Please note that we've tested VoLTE on a few Volla devices only. Other ports may have VoLTE support enabled; such support is experimental and may not always function correctly.

Waydroid has been updated to version 1.5.1, containing initial support for upcoming official Android 13 images, among other fixes (Thanks to Jami (@deathmist) from Volla).

Font for emoji is switched from Emoji One to Noto Color Emoji, with improved support for some of newer emojis. (Thanks to Alfred (@fredldotme))

The Liberux Nexx smartphone will be (if it makes it to the production stage) the most powerful smartphone (with the RK3588S) to run GNU/Linux and the mainline kernel. More powerful than the PinePhone Pro, or the OnePlus 6. It will have a decent OLED display, alot of RAM, and much of what you would expect from a privacy-focused GNU/Linux smartphone such as hardware killswitches.

That is to say, this phone will (hopefully if it releases) be a true daily-driver candidate for many people, more so than the current offerings are now. While I am skeptical of it (as I am with any crowdfunded project) I think this will be a great thing if it does make it to production.

Anyone else here losing WiFi signal on their Pixel 8..?

Wasn't doing it when I first bought it but seems like since 3-4 months ago that phone has been acting up :(
