I've been thinking about Light No Fire's release, and the lack of information for a while now.

I know that No Man's Sky's recent Beacon release is pretty big, but I've also noticed a bit of a gap in expeditions recently. Perhaps more people are working on Light No Fire as it matures, and gets closer to launch, and resourcing doesn't allow for expedition work.

Hello Games has a history of making announcements at The Game Awards, and I'm sure they're not interested in another hype cycle, pre-order debacle, or anything like that. So I'm wondering whether it's possible that Sean will get up on stage this December, show off Light No Fire and give us a moment at the end where he says "and it's available RIGHT NOW!"

A man can dream.

In late 2023, Hello Games announced Light No Fire, a grand fantasy follow-up to sci-fi hit No Man's Sky. The reveal promised a sprawling world—literally the size of our own Earth—to make your own in a survival adventure. It was a huge promise, perhaps too much for a studio with a history of overpromising.

Since then we've got nearly nothing. No more big promises, no more trailers. No fuel for some immense, terrible beast of a hype train destined to destroy itself upon release. Just some moderate fan art output.

Naturally, this is anathema to the modern gamer, who demands frequent development updates. I'm afraid, then, to report that Light No Fire watchers are likely entering the early stages of what I'm calling Silksong Syndrome—the uncontrollable craving that consumed fans of Hollow Knight after years with no major news about its expansion.

The Light No Fire subreddit is a key place to see it in action, where a handful of posts speculate over year-and-a-half-old trailer stills and post cryptically about the "bacon" and post very sad images of facepalms and talk about "huffing copium" because they saw nothing Light No Fire-related during Summer Games Fest 2025.

"Now I understand Tweakers," says one post among many.

I can't really blame Hello Games for not saying too much because, again, it's famous for that one time No Man's Sky failed to meet the expectations its marketing and fan speculation built for it. (Though it has since become one of gaming's most famous comeback stories.)

You can see everything we know about Light No Fire on our dedicated page for that. It's interesting, but it's not much. God help the early superfans of this game. They probably have a long road ahead of them.

It appears we're going to get some LNF news at long last!

It's just a screenshot showing Light No Fire is on a lot of wishlists.

Perhaps this is the beginning of the run up to a release date announcement.

With all the stuff being added to No Man's Sky I'm wondering what will make Light No Fire distinct.

What can LNF add to differentiate it from NMS?

Sean Murray traditionally teases No Man's Sky news with a single emoji tweet, but he's also used the "world" emoji in posts about Light No Fire's open world.

Keep your eyes open for potential news in the next few days!

Just a little informal post to say I think about this game all the time at the moment. I know I shouldn't say it, but I miss the hype of No Man's Sky pre-launch. The podcasts, the Reddit threads, etc.

I just want some news, ideally a release date!

Of the species seen in the game so far, which one would you like to play as? Do you think it'll be possible?

I'll go first and say that I think it would be cool to play as a skeleton, but I'm not convinced that will be an option as skeletons are typically mobs.

The rabbits/hares/lagomorphs seem interesting.

I've already added it to my wishlist. I hope it comes to consoles, too.
