Connect for Lemmy App

When you search, look at a single community, or look at similar screens, the hamburger menu is replaced by a back arrow to take you to the main feeds.

Sometimes I want to change some settings, send a message, or look at my inbox while on one of these pages without loosing my position. A great feature would be the ability to open the app menu without having to back out of your current screen.

Why call it "Connect for Lemmy"? It's so inconvenient and not catchy at all. Might even be misunderstood by most search enaginges when typing in the current name of the app. Just call the app like this community "Lemmyconect"

I love the app but it seems to be very inefficient with caching of data, especially pics. I've been surfing c/pics for a few time and very quickly got the mobile data usage alarm, was almost 2Gb. It seems the app is loading all full pictures of the whole community. Not sure how other apps are doing or how it was done by reddit apps but I'd assume the only preload a lower resolution version of the thumbnails of the pics.

Also it seems lemmyconnect is not properly caching the thumbnails. So if I click on a post in the overview to seen the comment, then go back to the overview, all the pic thumbnails have to be reloaded. You can easily see this when you try surfing in low bandwidth situations.

Just recently some kind of update must have happened because now whenever I look at comments on a post they all have grey backgrounds even though my look and feel theme is set to AMOLED and previously they were black unless specifically selected.

I went through the settings and found there was an option called "background" it doesn't specify that it's comments but I assume it is as the colour matches but the colour choices are a limited set that somehow don't include black with the darkest I can go to being the same grey it just got set to.

I chose the dark theme for browsing at night so if a large portion of the screen is grey then it will be a lot brighter than it used to be and the white text will be less distinct.

This is a stupid question, but how do you change your profile pic?

As far as I can tell, right now on profile view you only see the post title and your username on the comments you've made. Only after tapping the comment and going to the source can you see which community it was posted in. I feel as though it would be useful to be able to see which community you made the comment on with each comment.

What do you think?

I have no ability to color coordinate but would love to get some inspiration, especially from anyone using the AMOLED theme.

Who's got a slick colorway to share??

It seems like whatever intent is spawned after creating a thread doesn't respect the back button behavior. When I click Android's back button, it just closes the app rather than taking me back to the community or even prompting me to confirm I wish to exit.

It'd be great if we had an option where opening an image or link marks a thread as being read.

As it stands, I have to open comments and many posts I just want to see the meme and move on.

Connect is my favorite app so far, however it is twice as battery hungry as Liftoff even with AMOLED mode on my phone. My battery is really shit, so it's really rough. Are there any settings I can change to increase battery life, or is this just how the app need to be?

When you have opened a post in the app and you want to open the post externally through the menu in the top bar the app's default web hiew is opened even when the setting ro open links externally is activated

Edit: Apparently it's the "open" action on the top bar menu in general because the same is happening for communities

I made a feature request for horizontal swipe and I'm really happy with the swift response. As of now there's an issue in which I have to swipe a post all across the screen, usually on the now-non-existent apps you would just swipe on the edge of the screen (right edge for next post) with this one the finger must swipe until the other edge of the screen or else it exits the horizontal swipe mode.

I don't think any of the other Lemmy apps are showing a total score. It doesn't work in Connect regardless. My score was approaching 250 (showed close to 400 viewing from another instance). If you delete posts or comments it really goes off. Current score is less than 30. My account on another instance shows zero. Not sure if there's any value in showing this number as it is quite inaccurate.

As title. Whenever I make a comment/reply. The screen will go black after I press the arrow button on the top right. I then have to kill and reopen the app. The comment/reply will have been posted successfully at least.

Can't seem to make posts using this app. Can male comments without issue. But when trying to make posts its just does nothing. Having to use another app (Jerboa) to post this.

The first is that I couldn't figure out how to post this in Connect. I'm on Beehaw and wanted to post this here, but it wasn't giving me this community+instance as an option. I'm currently posting this from my browser. This coild easily be user error on my part.

The second is the error in the screenshot provided. It seems to happen randomly, and often when it does the only way to get out of it seems to be to kill the app.

It seems like we can't leave a comment on some posts which require a language to be selected. I'm not sure if this is a community setting or something.

I can't select a language while posting, so the comment doesn't go through .

Is anyone else having issues with subscribing? I've tried on a number of different communities on different instances including the one I use and it was subscribe and then immediately unsubscribe.

RIF had this great feature in comment threads that when you selected an individual comment, it would show some buttons for Root/Parent Next/Previous. Made navigating through longer comment threads a breeze. Would love to see if that could be implemented in Connect.

Content is no longer loading on Connect for me. Even when I force stop the app or restart my phone, the issue still occurs.

My app is up to date (1.0.72) and my Android 13 version is 5.4.210.

[Feature Request] A visual signifier for posts and communities whether you are already subscribed to the community or not.

Currently, you have to tap on '3 dots' -> 'About community' which is quite cumbersome.

That's particularly annoying because different communities of the same name often exist on several instances.

I really like the way Connect is evolving. However, one thing I can't seem to figure out is how to search for communities. Using other apps like Liftoff and Jerboa, I can easily just search for communities.

Here is an example of searching communities in Jerboa:

I looked at the list of communities I have blocked, and the list goes off the screen. I am however unable to scroll through the list. Is it just me?
