In statements to Sputnik Radio this Wednesday, the diplomat reacted strongly to Washington’s assertions that the operation in Venezuela was “bloodless,” noting that the US side is ignoring the deaths of dozens of Venezuelan and Cuban citizens.

“So, how is it that no one died? And aren’t the citizens of Venezuela and Cuba human beings? I have a question: in what dimension do we live? I want an answer.”

Zakharova said she was taking the opportunity to ask: “When the United States says that this supposed operation was bloodless, does that mean it doesn’t consider the citizens of Venezuela and Cuba to be human beings? Who gave them that right? Who gave them the right to ignore the bloody consequences they themselves caused, the consequences of their actions?”

The diplomat also noted that the UN did not adequately assess the loss of life resulting from these events.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff decided on Monday to remain in Paris to continue negotiations with a view to a ceasefire that still does not appear imminent.

Discussions included the peace plan promoted by US President Donald Trump, who is pressuring Zelensky to accept it.

European powers are trying to change this initiative, considering it too biased toward Russia, particularly regarding territorial concessions for Kiev.

The Coalition of the Willing, a bloc set up to support Ukraine, met in this capital on Monday, in which Trump’s envoys, Witkoff and Jared Kushner, participated on-site for the first time.

The Coalition of 35 members, led by France and the United Kingdom, agreed on the Paris Declaration, which includes the deployment of thousands of foreign troops to Ukraine once a cessation of hostilities is achieved.

This requirement is a condition imposed by the magistrate before authorizing Bolsonaro’s transfer to a private hospital in Brasilia.

After De Moraes’s ruling, Bolsonaro’s lawyers submitted to the STF the list of procedures requested by Dr. Brasil Ramos Caiado, the cardiologist treating the former president.

The request includes a CT scan of the head, an MRI of the head, and an electroencephalogram (EEG). In the document, the doctor cites as clinical indications the need to clarify a possible seizure, suspected head trauma consistent with traumatic brain injury (TBI), and nocturnal syncope with a fall.

He also requests clarification regarding transient memory lapses and the existence of a laceration in the right temporal and lateral region of the face.

Also in the order, De Moraes informed that, according to an official statement from the Federal Police (PF), Bolsonaro received medical attention after reporting the fall.

The PF medical team detected “minor injuries” and did not indicate, at that time, the need for immediate hospital transfer, recommending only on-site observation.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning stated that Venezuela is a sovereign State with full and permanent rights over its natural resources and economic activities, and described the US military action as an act of intimidation.

Mao Ning affirmed that Washington’s demands to prioritize the “America First” principle in the management of Venezuelan oil violate international law.

The spokesperson noted that those actions infringe upon the sovereignty of that nation and harm the legitimate rights of its people.

Beijing strongly condemned those actions and underscored that the legitimate rights and interests of China and other countries in Venezuela must be protected.

Mao Ning stressed that Beijing will continue to strengthen cooperation and mutual support with countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to the president himself, who shared the information on his social media accounts, various groups have backed the initiative, which aims to demand respect for self-determination amid serious threats from US President Donald Trump.

“Raise the Colombian flag at your house now. We’ll see you Wednesday in all the squares of Colombia. Now let’s defend national sovereignty,” he wrote on his account.

The president of the Central Union of Workers (CUT), Fabio Arias, announced that his organization will participate in the demonstration. “Let us make our presence felt to defend sovereignty and democracy in Colombia against the threats of military invasion and the attacks against President Gustavo Petro,” he urged the population.

Also at a press conference held the previous day, Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio emphasized the importance of the call to action in light of the threats made by the United States.

“I believe this is very important because we are all one country that must be united to defend this sovereignty and this dignity, which perhaps we hadn’t seen threatened before, but which is now at high risk, and it is time to act,” she stated.

The meeting will take place in the city of Manta, although there will be virtual participation, with delegates registered through the AppRC5 digital platform.

Amid internal disputes, several names are being considered to assume the leadership of the political group founded by former President Rafael Correa.

Currently, former presidential candidate Luisa González leads the movement.

The movement’s internal election has gained importance following the withdrawal of former minister Felipe Vega de la Cuadra, who withdrew from the race due to “persecution and threats,” as he stated.

Correa, for his part, announced his support for Gabriela Rivadeneira, former president of the National Assembly from 2013 to 2017 and a refugee in Mexico since 2020, as the party’s presidential candidate.

In addition to Rivadeneira, other activists, such as journalist Orlando Perez, have emerged within the movement as potential leaders after the convention.

Quito Mayor Pabel Munoz, a member of the RC, stated that he has high hopes for the convention.

“Time is demanding that we sit down, meet, have a closed discussion, and allow that debate to be as heated as it needs to be, so that we can then arrive at a unified position,” Munoz said.

The White House reported that it is “analyzing a variety of options” to acquire Greenland, and Washington does not rule out the possibility that fulfilling President Trump’s long-held ambition may again require the use of the United States Armed Forces.

B“President Trump has made it clear that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority for the United States and is critical to deterring our adversaries in the Arctic region,” stated White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in a press release.

The spokesperson said that “the President and his team are discussing a variety of options to pursue this important foreign policy objective, and, of course, using the United States military is always an option available to the Commander-in-Chief.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio threw the question of whether the purchase of the autonomous territory of Denmark is being considered this week, despite Danish authorities repeatedly stating that it is not for sale.

At the same time, Rubio downplayed concerns about a potential U.S. military intervention in the near future, according to unidentified sources familiar with the matter.

The quake occurred at 11:02 a.m. local time and was felt along the country’s southern coast. No tsunami warning was issued, as seismologists ruled out that risk.

Philippine authorities warned of possible aftershocks and damage in areas near the epicenter, located 47 kilometers from the coastal city of Manay, in Davao Oriental province.

The Philippines is highly vulnerable to these phenomena due to its location in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.

On September 30, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake killed 74 Filipinos and forced thousands to flee their homes to escape the devastation.

Moayyad Shaaban, head of the institution, stated in a press release that the Israel Land Authority issued a major tender to build apartment blocks in the area, despite the global condemnation of Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank.

Shaaban warned that the project poses a danger and will have serious repercussions in the region.

He confirmed that the authorities of the neighboring country have transitioned from the planning and approval phase to the implementation phase of the plan, which he considered one of the most perilous in the last three decades.

Shaaban rememrbered that the initiative was first presented more than 30 years ago, but has since been shelved due to international rejection and pressure.

The Ministry of Health and Social Prevention (MSPAS) confirmed that the alert issued on December 16 remains in effect, while noting a possible risk of an increase in cases of the disease in the coming weeks.

The Ministry has ruled out any new reports of the so-called “super flu” since the 24-year-old woman confirmed on January 19. This flu typically intensifies during the cold season and can extend into February.

However, the Ministry added that it is working to strengthen early detection and prevent a resurgence of infections in the country through active epidemiological surveillance throughout the territory. The head of the Pediatric Emergency Department at the Roosevelt Hospital in the capital, Ricardo Menendez, told local media that the few cases of influenza detected during the end-of-year festivities were brought under control.

In 2025, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was the predominant virus, in addition to some patients with Covid-19, described a doctor from one of the main public healthcare centers in the country.

The Epidemiology Department of another important hospital in the city, the San Juan de Dios General Hospital, reported that between December 24 and January 4, they treated six cases of influenza: three adults and three children, which does not represent an unusual increase.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced that the visit will last from 7 to 12 of January, at the invitation of African countries and the African Union (AU).

The Ministry underscored that this is the 36th consecutive time that Wang has chosen Africa as the first diplomatic destination of the year.

The tradition began in January 1991, when then-Foreign Minister Qian Qichen visited Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, and it has continued even during the most critical years of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Chinese side, this practice shows the strategic importance and special nature of the friendship between China and Africa.

Both sides are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, which began in May 1956, with Egypt being the first African country to recognize the People’s Republic of China.

Renowned criminal lawyer Barry Pollack, who defended journalist Julian Assange, has taken on the defense of Venezuela’s constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, in New York. Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores were kidnapped and taken there following the US attack in the early hours of Jan. 3, when military forces under orders from the White House carried out bombings against Caracas and several states, killing dozens of civilians and military personnel.

Amid their illegitimate detention, President Maduro and Cilia Flores were taken this Monday to the Southern District Court of New York to begin a trial for alleged links to drug trafficking. This process reveals its political nature after months of unsubstantiated accusations by the Trump regime to publicly blame the Chavista leader for ties to drug trafficking.

Pollack gained greater notoriety after helping WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange reach a plea deal in 2024 that allowed him to leave prison. Assange faced charges of conspiring to obtain and release classified US documents in connection with the largest leak in US history in 2010, which included nearly half a million documents about the US invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. This leak exposed crimes against humanity committed by US troops against civilians during their invasions of both countries.

Associated with the firm Harris St. Laurent & Wechsler LLP, this trial lawyer has more than 30 years of experience in complex criminal cases and many other offenses, according to US media. He is also listed as a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, and a former president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Cilia Flores, for her part, will be represented by Mark Donnelly of the firm Parker Sanchez and Donnelly. He is a lawyer specializing in economic crimes who worked for over a decade at the Department of Justice.

While both were brought before Federal Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein, who is presiding over the case, thousands of citizens opposed to US actions outside the courthouse demanded the Venezuelan presidential couple release and condemned the military aggression against the South American nation. Washington’s vile aggression against Venezuela took place a month after Trump pardoned former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, who had been sentenced to 45 years in prison by the same Judge Hellerstein for proven drug trafficking offenses.

Adding to this scandal, other questions are piling up against the White House tenant, such as the extrajudicial executions in the Caribbean (after attacks against alleged drug boats), the military operations behind the backs of the prerogatives of Congress, the consequences of the hunt for migrants and the deportations, and even Trump’s links with the pedophile and sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein.

Flores injured
Venezuela’s First Lady, Cilia Flores, suffered “significant injuries” during her kidnapping along with President Nicolás Maduro early Saturday morning, amidst the US military assault and bombing of Venezuelan territory.

Flores’s lawyer, Mark Donnelly, revealed that his client suffered “significant injuries” including possible fractures and a severe rib hematoma. “The injuries are visible,” Donnelly stated, urging a comprehensive medical evaluation of his client.

Delcy Rodríguez Sworn in as Venezuela’s Acting President Following US Military Aggression

In this regard, Judge Hellerstein instructed the defense to coordinate with the prosecution to ensure the necessary medical attention, although the origin of the injuries was not specified, nor was a concrete timeframe established for the evaluation.

The Geneva Conventions and other international treaties establish clear obligations regarding the humane treatment of captured individuals, including immediate access to medical care when necessary.

Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez stated on Tuesday during a meeting of the Agro-Food, Communal, and Industrial Fishing Staff that “on a personal level, to those who threaten me, I say this: my destiny is decided only by god; that is my response.”

“We are here governing alongside the people,” stated Rodríguez. “The government of Venezuela rules in our country and no one else; there is no external agent that governs Venezuela. It is Venezuela, it is its constitutional government, and it is the consolidated popular power.”

During the meeting, Rodríguez highlighted the strength of the economic indicators achieved at the close of 2025, reporting that Venezuela currently has the highest inventory levels in the last two decades. However, she stated that Venezuela “must ensure that the normal flow of food supplies continues in the country, with the goal and responsibility of strengthening food sovereignty and supply projects for our people.”

Following US military attack against Venezuela, Donald Trump claimed on January 3, “We are going to manage the country until a safe transition can be held… We are going to manage the country until an empowered democratic transition can be realized.” On that same day, he publicly described a looting plan intended to steal Venezuelan oil.

A day later, while aboard his aircraft Air Force One, Trump was asked by journalists who would lead Venezuela. He replied, “Don’t ask me who is in charge, because I will give you an answer, and it will be very controversial.” When pressed by a reporter on what that meant, he said, “It means that we are in charge.”

Also on Sunday, the US ruler explicitly threatened Venezuela’s new Chavista leader, Delcy Rodríguez. “If she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro,” Trump told The Atlantic’s Michael Scherer in a phone interview.

This Tuesday, Rodríguez responded directly to Trump’s threats and called upon Venezuelan men and women to continue working to strengthen the economy, the development of the nation, and the country’s stability.

People standing firm in defense of the homeland
“The Venezuelan people remain firm, and they remain active in defending our Homeland,” she affirmed at the beginning of her speech, referring to the US military attack that targeted Venezuela in the early hours of Saturday, January 3.

After attending their funeral service, the acting president honored the martyrs who fell defending the nation. She also recalled that the criminal armed assault against Venezuela resulted in another illegal outcome: the kidnapping of head of state Nicolás Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores. She characterized this as a blatant violation of international law.

Rodríguez highlighted that President Maduro declared before a court that he is a prisoner of war and, alongside Cilia Flores, innocent of the fabricated US drug-trafficking charges. The US has charged the presidential couple with narcotics trafficking; however, the US authorities have never presented credible evidence for these accusations.

Violation of Human Rights: How the US Attacked Venezuela’s People

Rodríguez noted, “Venezuela is currently in a painful situation due to the aggression it has suffered.” She emphasized that this is an unprecedented action in local and South American history. Despite this, she maintained that “the Venezuelan people are active in the streets, with the women of Venezuela marching today for the peace of our country, for the freedom of our heroes: President Nicolás Maduro, and First Lady Cilia Flores.”

“The Venezuelan people are a people who do not surrender, and we do not give up,” she emphasized.
