The institution is pleased to host the exhibition, which opened last November, and invites visitors to go deep into the universe of the 2004 National Prize for Visual Arts winner through a “majestic experience.”

The public witnesses “a journey through the deep core of his work, where each piece is a creative surprise that invites to reflection,” the exhibition’s Facebook page states.

The exhibition remains open until March 2026 and offers a diversity of ideas through the use of many objects that belong to both our local and global contexts.

The artist told Prensa Latina, adding that his intention with Medula is to foster dialogue and reflection on the themes presented.

A selection of the highlights of his work from the last decade, including paintings, drawings, and installations, are on display in the central courtyard gallery and the temporary exhibition space on the third floor of the Cuban Art Building.

This is a chance to explore the creativity of Roberto Fabelo and delve into the essence of a leading figure in Cuban visual arts.

Every day, President Claudia Sheinbaum gives a morning presidential press conference and Mexico Solidarity Media posts English language summaries, translated by Mexico Solidarity’s Pedro Gellert Frank. Previous press conference summaries are available here.

Boxing for Peace: Sports to Address Root Causes

President Claudia Sheinbaum presented the Boxing for Peace program, a strategy partnering with the World Boxing Council and the Youth Building the Future (Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro) program, in which 5,000 professional boxers will serve as community tutors, delivering free classes daily.

The boxers will receive a monthly scholarship/stipend of 9,582 pesos (US$558) and IMSS health insurance while training 100,000 children and young people. The program will continue in 2026 and expand throughout the current presidential administration, prioritizing crime prevention and the population’s well-being.

Mexico with the Lowest Unemployment in the OECD

Sheinbaum noted that Mexico maintains the lowest unemployment rate in the OECD, at levels equal to or below 3%, on par with economies such as Japan and Korea. While other countries have seen increases in unemployment, Mexico’s performance is marked by stability and job creation. It also ranks among the lowest in youth unemployment.

Order with Dialogue, Not Media Shows

The President discussed the police operation against street vendors in the Cuauhtémoc municipality in Mexico City, led by opposition mayor Alessandra Rojo. Sheinbaum emphasized that street sales must be regulated through roundtable dialogues, direct work with vendors, and formal administrative processes. She recalled her experience as head of the Tlalpan municipality and Head of Mexico City Government, insisting that order is built with dialogue and responsibility, not media shows.

40-Hour Labor Reform: Rights, Not Privileges

Following the historic Senate vote on codifying the 40-hour workweek, the President’s commitment to reducing the workday advances. The Minister of Labor was clear: the reform does not cut wages, does not increase overtime hours, nor affect the numbers of days off.

In response to the PRI’s abstention on the bill, Sheinbaum declared they are not in favor of labor rights and today defend privileges, not the working people.

By Jiang Feng – Feb 9, 2026

At the beginning of this year, I noticed a growing trend on social media: people sharing moments of “Becoming Chinese” in their lives. They replace iced drinks with warm water, practice Baduanjin, explore the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine, cook home-style Chinese dishes, and reassess the pace of their daily lives in search of a more balanced way of living. Many of these videos end with a simple yet heartfelt declaration: “You met me at a very Chinese time in my life.”

What we are witnessing is more than an online trend. It is a resonance that transcends language, culture, and geography—people finding inspiration to enrich their present lives within each other’s civilizations.

Having worked in Africa for many years, I can also say with pride, “You met me at a very African time in my life.” Here, culture is not an abstract concept, but a lived experience shaped day by day. Injera, Ethiopia’s traditional food, injera, made from naturally fermented teff flour, is not only distinctive in flavor but also beneficial for digestion. It has long become one of my favorite dishes. The Afrobeat song “Chanel” by South African singer Tyla, has sparked a dance challenge on Chinese social media, where young people have engaged in a cross-cultural dialogue through movement and rhythm.

Africa is also becoming an increasingly popular destination for Chinese tourists. From the echoes of history at Egypt’s pyramids to the vibrant life of Kenya’s savannah and the turquoise waters and white sands of Mauritius, more and more Chinese travelers are exploring this vast continent. By walking its lands and immersing themselves in its cultures, they come to better understand Africa—and, along the way, rediscover the world and themselves.

Cultural exchanges occur time and again over meals, through music and dance, and during journeys. These seemingly ordinary yet genuine interactions form the most solid and warm foundation of China-–Africa people-to-people exchanges. 2026 marks the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, an important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and African leaders. Nearly 600 exchange activities will be held throughout the year, bringing together youth, cultural, media, and other sectors, covering a wide range of China-–Africa engagement and further strengthening public support for China-–Africa friendship.

Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the launching ceremony of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges at the African Union headquarters, read out a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping and delivered a keynote speech.

This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa. The world today is undergoing accelerated transformation unseen in a century, and global challenges become more prominent. The Global South, represented by China and Africa, is developing and rising irresistibly. Both China and Africa are at a critical stage of their respective development and revitalization. Both China and Africa are at critical stages of their respective development and revitalization. Is China Doing ‘Colonialism’ in Africa?

You met us at a very African and Chinese time in our shared journey. I firmly believe that, by taking the launch of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity, both sides will uphold their original aspiration of friendship and solidify the foundation of cooperation, promote civilizations to transcend estrangement through exchanges, and to transcend clashes through mutual learning by upholding their original aspiration of friendship and solidify the foundation of cooperation. In doing so, we will continue to enhance the substance of the all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era, and jointly embrace a brighter future for China-Africa relations and the Global South.

I firmly believe that, taking the China–Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity, and guided by our original aspiration for friendship, both sides will further consolidate the foundations of cooperation, use exchanges among civilizations to transcend estrangement, and promote mutual learning among civilizations to rise above conflict. In doing so, we will continue to enrich the China–Africa community with a shared future for the new era and jointly embrace a brighter future for China–Africa relations.

This editorial by Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano originally appeared in the February 16, 2026 edition of La Jornada, Mexico’s premier left wing daily newspaper.

Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano was the first elected head of government of Mexico City and a three times Presidential candidate, including in the stolen 1988 election. He is the son of General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, Mexico’s socialist President from 1934 to 1940.

Expressing full solidarity with the people of Cuba, a generous and peaceful people, united to ours by deep historical ties and a common commitment to the best causes of humanity, must be accompanied by a firm condemnation of the unilateral coercive measures that the United States government has adopted against that sister nation.

The economic blockade imposed more than six decades ago, repeatedly condemned by an overwhelming majority in the United Nations General Assembly, as well as the recent decision by the United States government, which threatens to impose tariffs on those nations that supply fuel to Cuba, are illegal, inhumane and unjustified measures that seriously affect its people and violate the principles of sovereign equality, non-intervention and self-determination, pillars of the international democratic order.

No political or economic objective justifies measures that violate basic human rights.

The latest escalation against Cuba jeopardizes access to essential goods and services for its inhabitants, including water, food, medicine, and electricity. At the same time, it restricts the freedom of other countries to decide on their trade, cooperation, and exchange relationships with that nation.

The basic rules of international order reject and prohibit the use of force and unilateral economic sanctions – in their various forms – against any country, precisely because of the indiscriminate harm they cause to the population.

Decisions about Cuba, its present and its future, belong exclusively to its people.

In solidarity with the Cuban people, it is necessary to call for an end to arrogant and aggressive unilateralism, as well as to support all actions undertaken by different peoples and governments to protect the well-being, integrity, and human dignity in Cuba.

Respect for the sovereignty of countries – which originally and always resides in the people – must continue to be the cornerstone of coexistence between nations and of aspirations to achieve a more just and peaceful world.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Caceres pointed out that, without a doubt, Washington’s announcement of retaliatory tariff increases against countries that supply oil to Cuba is more than a threat; it is a flagrant violation of international law and the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

He noted that international law has always prohibited, even in cases of armed conflict, “actions that affect the civilian population” of the belligerent. He emphasized that the graveness of the measure taken by the Donald Trump administration, which adds to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, has led to numerous pronouncements condemning the energy blockade against the island.

Caceres pointed out that, while there are some groups or individuals with controversial political positions on Cuba, the reaction of the international human rights community has been very clear and forceful against Trump’s measure, without any political considerations.

He added that Peruvian human rights organizations have joined in rejection of the U.S. decision, which affects the fundamental rights of the Cuban people.

The Aprodeh leader also said that Latin American governments should boost a regional meeting to address the serious issue of the energy blockade against Cuba; however, he lamented that there are right-wing and far-right leaders in Latin America who oppose the Caribbean nation.

The president of the Colombian Communist Party (PCC), Jaime Caicedo, expressed his solidarity with the people of Cuba and also demanded respect for the rights of those who defend its Revolution.

He also called for an end to the repression and violence against activists who defend Cuba in the United States, whom the US administration demonizes, and for respect for the integrity and rights of Latin American migrants persecuted by the current government.

The political secretary of the Communist Party of Colombia (PCC) in Bogota, Carlos Garcia, stated that the party expresses “its solidarity and support for the heroic struggles of the Cuban people, who are resisting the onslaught and direct threat of U.S. imperialism and the continuation and intensification of the criminal economic, financial, and commercial blockade.”

“Today we demand respect for the autonomy, independence, and principle of sovereignty of peoples, as well as recognition of the heroic struggles of those who resist and fight for their dignity,” he exclaimed in a message obtained by Prensa Latina.

Recently, writer and former Colombian Minister of Culture, Arts, and Knowledge Juan David Correa asserted that Cubans are suffering because of a “totalitarian, authoritarian, and inhumane policy on the part of the United States government.”

Currently, the Colombian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba is promoting a donation drive, collecting non-perishable food, medicine, medical supplies, and electrical goods as a sign of support for the Caribbean nation.

Several statements of support were also signed by dozens of organizations in Colombia, including the Minga Association for Alternative Social Promotion, the Somos Defensores Program, the Jose Alvear Restrepo Lawyers’ Collective, the Corporation for Support of Popular Communities, and the Lazos de Dignidad Foundation, among others.

This article by Alma Rosa Camacho originally appeared in the February 16, 2026 edition of El Sol de México.

Representatives of the 240 employees from the Programming, Film Preservation, Box Office, Theaters, Restaurant, and Soda Fountain departments, all hired through outsourcing, demonstrated this Saturday at the National Film Archive’s headquarters in Xoco. Gathered in the group Colectiva Cineteca, they demanded better working conditions.

They denounced workplace harassment by Vicente Fernando Cázares Avilés, Director of Administration and Finance at the National Film Archive, and demanded his resignation during a peaceful march in which they also spoke about exploitation, as the same employees travel from Xoco to the Film Archive of the Arts and the Chapultepec Film Archive.

More than 60 protesters in front of the Xoco ticket booths expressed their demands, without preventing the sale of tickets.

Most workers stated that they work more than eight hours a day and have virtually no breaks / Photo: Ivonne Rodríguez / El Sol de México

Asael, a young worker, told El Sol de México about his situation at his workplace: “I work in movie theaters and the concession stand. Besides the low wages, the exploitation of working extra hours every day without breaks, and not having universal health coverage through the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute), we experience workplace harassment, mental abuse, and mockery from our immediate supervisors, who remind us how little we earn with sneers and threats.”

In one of the large planters at the Cineteca, they placed banners with messages such as “Cinematic memory does not preserve itself”, “Decent wages, permanent positions, job security”, “We demand solutions: Cineteca Collective. Labor dignity”.

Colectiva Cineteca brings together employees between 30 and 40 years of age, some of whom have worked there for more than 18 years, and they assured that they will continue to demonstrate until they achieve solutions to their demands.

In a brief statement issued minutes before 4:00 p.m. this Saturday, the National Film Archive reported that “all the theaters in its three venues are in operation” and that the debts to the staff were settled last Friday, also noting that meetings took place throughout the week between the workers and management.

“We will participate in this meeting without fail, at the presidential level,” the Belarusian leader stated on the sidelines of a meeting with the State Secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, Sergey Glazyev.

Lukashenko meant that the presidential summit could be held outside of Washington, “possibly somewhere in Europe or the Middle East, like Israel,” or even in Turkiye.

He added that Minsk plans to undertake serious work if it participates in the mechanism, adhering to a sovereign position, shared with Moscow.

“Of course, this position, from both Russia and Belarus, will be unified. We will develop this position because we share identical visions,” he remarked, while emphasizing the importance of not succumbing to external influences.

“This time, we intend to discuss a broader range of issues, including, in fact, the main ones concerning both territories and everything else. Which, in fact, are connected to the demands we have,” the Kremlin spokesman explained to the press.

He also noted that the new round of talks will take place on February 17 and 18 in Geneva, Switzerland, in a trilateral format (Russia, United States, Ukraine) without the participation of European representatives.

In this context, Peskov pointed out that the dialogues require the presence of the chief negotiator for the Russian side, presidential advisor Vladimir Medinsky.

Regarding this, he explained that Medinsky did not participate in the negotiations in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, as the discussion there focused solely on security issues.

The head of the press service of the Presidency of Russia added that his country’s delegation will be expanded to include Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and the top representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff, Igor Kostyukov.

From Washington, it was confirmed that their delegation will include White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.

In a growing and active gesture of friendship with the people of the island, funds and materials are being collected in several Argentine cities, an action coordinated by the Argentine Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MASCuba), in addition to parallel initiatives by various groups.

Buenos Aires, Rosario, and Cordoba are the epicenters of this humanitarian initiative, with the support of groups in other cities. Alberto Mas, a member of the board of directors of the Casa de la Amistad (House of Friendship), based in Buenos Aires, told Prensa Latina that in just five days since launching the appeal last Wednesday, they have already received more than nine million pesos (US$6,122) for the purchase of the proposed aid. “And the count continues to grow,” he said.

In Cordoba, at the initiative of professionals who graduated from the Latin American School of Medicine, members of the Mil por Cuba (One Thousand for Cuba) group and other supporters of the island will meet to analyze the serious crisis facing the Cuban people due to the US blockade and threats of military aggression.

Among other points, they will propose solidarity measures that can and should be implemented for Cuba from Cordoba, political commentator Sergio Ortiz, leader of the Liberation Party, told Prensa Latina.

From Rosario, the main city in the province of Santa Fe, Norberto Galiotti informed Prensa Latina that they are boosting, along with the Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba and Just Causes, an initiative to acquire and send solar panels and medical supplies.

Galiotti, who is the coordinator of the Continental Network in Argentina, assured that all Latin American countries have joined the solidarity campaign to purchase solar panels for healthcare facilities, such as operating rooms, intensive care units, neonatal units, and schools.

“This act of solidarity has mobilized many people,” said Galiotti, who stated that he had contacted electrical engineers from several countries who will join the campaign, and cited the support of the Electrical Energy Union of Barranquilla, Colombia.

In statements to Al Jazeera, the official expressed that talks between Iran and the United States are ongoing and that several countries in the region are working to ensure their success.

Larijani revealed that he recently conveyed a message to Washington through the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, although he specified that they have not yet received an official response.

“The United States can establish its interests in the negotiations independently of those of Israel, and Iran is open to cooperating in them,” he stated.

He also considered it unlikely that Washington would seek a new armed confrontation, although he warned that any military action against his country would be met with a response.

The Iranian leader maintained that Tehran is not seeking war, but is prepared to defend itself. In his view, Israel is trying to sabotage the negotiations and is playing a destabilizing role in the region.

On February 6, Oman hosted a new round of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, following the suspension of talks after Israeli and US attacks on Iran in June 2015. US media reported on preparations for a second round of indirect talks, scheduled for the coming days in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Djiboutian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in a statement, considered this measure a flagrant violation of international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

“The statement emphasized that this attempt to annex Palestinian territories is unacceptable and perpetuates the expansion of settlements, which is already considered illegal,” it stressed.

It affirmed that any unilateral measure aimed at altering the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories is null and void and undermines international efforts to establish a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

The Foreign Ministry reiterated, once again, Djibouti’s firm stance in support of the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, among which it emphasized their inalienable right to an independent state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Finally, it urged the international community to assume its responsibilities to end these violations, guarantee respect for international law, and protect the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) is preparing a series of guidelines to regulate the sale of tickets for mass events in Mexico so that attendees know the exact prices and characteristics of the seats and places that are acquired through digital platforms.

In a morning press conference, the head of PROFECO, Ivan Escalante, reported that the regulations being worked on require ticketing companies to clearly inform, at least 24 hours in advance of the first sale, details such as the place, date, times, artists, as well as the map of the venue with the sections and the number of seats available.

The regulations also stipulate that the total price per section must be transparent and cannot be increased at the time of purchase. In case of cancellation, companies must inform customers of the refund process.

Companies must notify organizers of any changes to the event conditions 24 hours in advance. Furthermore, the pre-selection of additional services is prohibited; these services must be strictly optional and not a requirement for ticket purchase, as is the case with VIP packages.

The head of PROFECO announced these guidelines as a follow-up to the sale of tickets by the South Korean group, BTS , where PROFECO maintains a Procedure for Infringement of the Law (PIL) against Ticketmaster for irregularities in the sale of tickets, due to the prices and high demand of these that also circulated in digital resale companies.

In this regard, Escalante said that Ticketmaster was notified on February 11 and has until February 17 to present its arguments, after which the authority will determine the administrative resolution and the amount of the fine.

Digital reseller companies were also contacted to ensure they adjusted their services to comply with current Mexican regulations.

“Of course, we do not accept these accusations, we do not agree with them. We consider them biased and unfounded, and we categorically reject them,” the Kremlin spokesman told the press.

Last Saturday, authorities from Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, and France released a joint statement claiming that Navalny had allegedly been poisoned with epibatidine, a toxin extracted from the skin of Ecuadorian poison dart frogs.

According to the European nations, the conclusions were based on analyses of Navalny’s blood samples.

Against this backdrop, representatives from these countries accused Russia of an alleged violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention.

In response, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, dismissed these statements as “a hoax intended to divert attention from the West’s urgent problems.”

“When Europe should be presenting the results of the investigation into the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, they decide to bring up the Navalny case again,” the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman specified.

Alexei Navalny died on February 16, 2024, in a prison in northwestern Russia.

Since then, the Kremlin has called the claims by several Western leaders regarding the alleged involvement of Russian government officials in the opposition leader’s death “outrageous” and “unacceptable.”

According to a statement released via social media, the vessel attempted to defy the quarantine imposed by President Trump and was “tracked from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, we closed the distance and stopped it.”

The US agency used the announcement to send a strong message: “International waters are not sanctuaries. By land, air, or sea, we will find them and bring them to justice,” it asserted.

This operation is part of the naval blockade that the United States has maintained on Venezuela since mid-December 2015, with the aim of preventing the export or export of oil considered sanctioned by Washington.

The military deployment, which includes naval, air, and special forces assets, has carried out dozens of maritime interdictions and kinetic attacks against suspected vessels since the operation began.

The CGT leadership is meeting this Monday to decide on the labor action to be taken, and the FSU, made up of the Metallurgical Workers’ Union, the State Workers’ Association, the Oil Workers’ Union, and the two Argentine Workers’ Confederations, has already announced a strike with a march on the day of the session in the lower house.

These trade unions will insist on more demonstrations despite the brutal repression of Wednesday’s mobilization.

The Senate gave preliminary approval to a bill that the ruling party amended to advance, but a subsequent reading alerted unions that, despite the changes, workers would lose many rights.

Before this scenario, there is little room for the dialogue strategy that the CGT has been pursuing with the Executive Power.

Within the CGT, voices are increasingly calling for action after the meager changes achieved in the labor reform.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Briseño Davila described this strategy as a direct legacy of the so-called “Big Stick” policy, associated with the Monroe Doctrine, as well as “Manifest Destiny,” which, he explained, have shaped Washington’s foreign policy toward Latin America and the Caribbean.

The prominent Nicaraguan doctor stated, “It is the same doctrinal matrix that today exacerbates the genocidal blockade against Cuba.

It is the continuation of a reactionary imperial policy, of a cannibalistic capitalism that does not tolerate examples of sovereignty and dignity.”

He considered that Cuba’s greatest “threat” lies in its historical example of sovereignty, self-determination, and social development.

He highlighted the internationalist work of the Cuban medical brigades, particularly the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Physicians Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, which, he noted, has assisted in more than 60 countries.

Referring to recent US policy, Briseño Davila mentioned President Donald Trump, who declared Cuba an “unusual and extraordinary threat” and tightened the economic, commercial, and financial siege with further sanctions.

At the opening ceremony of Vision 2031: An International Conference on Development and Democracy in the southern Indian state on Sunday, Aymee Diaz, coordinator for the Global South at the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), described as utter nonsense the move by the administration of US President Donald Trump to tighten the economic, commercial, and financial siege that Washington has imposed on the island for more than 65 years in pursuit of regime change.

Aymee affirmed that quantifying the emotional damage, anguish, suffering, and deprivation that the US siege inflicts on Cuban families is impossible.

“More than 80 percent of Cubans on the island were born after the start of the US blockade,” emphasized the official, who is on a working visit to India.

The PCC representative specified that the US government has an urgent need to divert attention from its serious internal problems and, in its eagerness to regain control of our region, has intensified its aggressive policy against Cuba to unprecedented levels.

She pointed out that imposing more than 240 measures during his first term, and reinstating Cuba in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list on the first day of his second term, was not enough for President Trump.

The coordinator added that on January 29, Trump, in his crusade against Cuba, signed an executive order declaring the Caribbean nation an unusual and extraordinary threat to the United States and, therefore, declaring a national emergency.
