“What Venezuela is doing is a historic shift,” Vice President Delsy Rodríguez affirmed this Friday regarding the recent “brazen theft” of a Venezuelan oil tanker in the Caribbean Sea, jeopardizing the region’s maritime and commercial security.

General-in-Chief Padrino López: Venezuela Will Not Surrender to US Threats

“We are not managing the bourgeois state we inherited from the Fourth Republic. We are making a historic shift. And that historic shift, as the president has said, is the transition to a communal state. We are at that moment.”

Furthermore, Rodríguez emphasized that the objective of the United States’ illegal action is to “harm maritime oil trade” in the country.

In this situation, Venezuela officially requested the IMO to activate all channels and procedures provided for in international agreements to protect freedom of navigation and free maritime trade.

“Venezuela is doing what must be done, which is to appeal to the law, to appeal to international legality, and to defend our natural resources,” the vice president emphasized.

¿What haven’t they sent to the Caribbean Sea?

Meanwhile, the Venezuelan leader referred to the military deployment in the Caribbean with the largest and most modern weaponry. “The military deployment in this area includes destroyers, nuclear submarines, and the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford, and it is ‘disproportionate, exorbitant, exaggerated.’

“Because they said they had sent nuclear submarines, destroyers—the largest in the world, the Gerald Ford—missile ships, fighter jets.”

“Something like this had never happened before in history. And they said it was to combat drug trafficking from Venezuela.”

Adjust your GPS.

Rodríguez further argued that the fallacies are unfounded, since “drugs are not produced or processed in Venezuela, and only about 5% of the drugs try to pass through here, not only through Venezuela but also through northern South America. Barely 5%.” That’s why we told them, adjust the GPS.”

He called on U.S. authorities, asking if their intentions to combat drug trafficking are truly genuine, to look not in the Caribbean Sea, but in the United States, on its own territory.

“Because all the logistical, financial, and drug distribution structures are in the United States. And the major drug traffickers are in Florida. And they finance campaigns. That’s the truth,” he stated.

General-in-Chief Vladimir Padrino

Through a forceful message delivered during the commemoration of the 47th anniversary of the Integrated Aerospace Defense Command, General-in-Chief Padrino López declared that the Trump Administration wants to subjugate the Bolivarian nation with lies and that surrender is a historical impossibility.

He recalled that using slander is part of the historical tactics of imperialism. He outlined how they began with the story of the nonexistent Tren de Aragua gang and even that the mentally ill and members of criminal gangs were sent en masse to the U.S.

“We are prepared to defend our country. Make no mistake, do not underestimate us. Your military deployment and your psychological operations will not break our spirit,” stated Padrino, who also affirmed that they are not afraid of the overflights of their fighter jets.

He addressed the people of the U.S. He distinguished between their heroic citizens, whom we love, he said, and the supremacist and lying administration, which does not care if its young people return as corpses.

He asserted that this government is an instrument of war and urged his people to listen to Venezuela’s cry for peace, its willingness to resolve conflicts through dialogue and politics, and not through force. He rejected the hijacking of a Venezuelan oil tanker and the imperialist ambition to steal natural resources that do not belong to them.

General-in-Chief Vladimir Padrino López, Venezuela’s Minister of Defense, denounced on Friday that the Trump Administration wants to start a war based on lies, as it did previously in Iraq, Yugoslavia, Libya, and Syria. He emphasized that, in perfect civic-police-popular unity, the country remains united and in rebellion against war and imperialism, and will not surrender to its threats.

In a forceful message delivered during the commemoration of the 47th anniversary of the Integrated Aerospace Defense Command, Padrino López stated that the Trump Administration wants to subjugate the Bolivarian nation with lies and that surrender is a historical impossibility.

They intend to bring Venezuela to its knees under a siege fueled by their illegal unilateral restrictive measures, he recalled, emphasizing that the aggression comes from the US power elite and their internal lackeys who play into the imperial game, not from Venezuela itself.

He asserted that the new generation of uniformed combatants, lovers of independence and sovereignty, are writing glorious and historic chapters.

Caracas, December 12, 2025 (venezuelanalysis.com) – The US Treasury Department levied new sanctions against the Venezuelan oil industry as the Trump White House looks to strangle the Caribbean nation’s most important revenue source.

On Thursday, the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) blacklisted six shipping companies for allegedly transporting Venezuelan crude. OFAC likewise identified six tankers, one from each sanctioned firm, as blocked property.

“Today’s action also targets Venezuela’s oil sector, which continues to fund Maduro’s illegitimate regime,” the US Treasury stated in a press release.

The Trump administration’s latest coercive measures mark an escalation in its efforts to target Venezuela’s oil industry. During his first term, Trump introduced a “maximum pressure” campaign that included financial sanctions, an export embargo and secondary sanctions against Venezuela’s oil sector.

In his second term, the White House withdrew Chevron’s license to extract and export crude from its ventures in Venezuela before issuing a new, limited waiver in May.

The latest sanctions come amid a large-scale US military buildup and deadly operations in the Caribbean under a self-declared anti-narcotics mission. However, reports from specialized agencies have contradicted the White House’s “narcoterrorism” accusations against Caracas.

Trump has issued repeated threats to attack purported drug targets inside Venezuelan territory. Analysts and political figures have argued that Washington’s true goal is regime change in order to take control of Venezuelan natural resources.

On Wednesday, the US Coast Guard led the seizure of an oil tanker carrying Venezuelan crude. The Skipper, which had been blacklisted by the US Treasury in 2021 for allegedly transporting Iranian crude, was commandeered in international waters while carrying an estimated 1.6 million barrels of crude bound for Asian markets.

Caracas condemned the move as “international piracy” and vowed to denounce it before international bodies. US officials told Reuters that more seizures are expected in the near future, while former Biden administration advisor Juan González raised the prospect of a naval blockade against the South American country.

Washington’s tanker drew widespread rejection, with US anti-war collective Code Pink calling it “21st century piracy.” The American Association of Jurists likewise issued a statement condemning US actions as illegal and a violation of international law.

US authorities had previously seized Venezuela-bound Iranian fuel in 2020. In November, a US warship blocked the path of a Russian tanker, forcing it to make a U-turn before eventually reaching its destination in eastern Venezuela.

Thursday’s coercive measures likewise included individual sanctions against Ramón Carretero, Carlos Malpica, Efrain Campo and Franqui Flores. Carretero, a Panamanian national, was targeted for alleged involvement in Venezuelan oil sales.

Malpica, Campo and Flores are nephews of Venezuelan First Lady and National Assembly Deputy Cilia Flores. Malpica had been previously designated in 2017 before being withdrawn from OFAC’s List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN List) in 2022. Campo and Flores were serving 18-year sentences on drug trafficking charges when they were released by the Biden administration in a prisoner exchange in 2022.

The sanctioned companies and individuals will see any US-based assets frozen, while US persons and firms are barred from conducting any business with them.

Oil production remains stable

Amidst recent US threats and escalatory actions, Venezuela’s oil sector has maintained a steady output level.

According to OPEC, production stood at 934,000 barrels per day (bpd) in November, slightly below 961,000 bpd in October, as measured by secondary sources. Venezuela’s oil industry recovered from decades-low output levels in 2020 but has not managed to surpass the 1 million bpd threshold.

In contrast, state oil company PDVSA reported a higher output of 1.14 million bpd in November. The direct and secondary measurements have differed over time due to disagreements on the inclusion of natural gas liquids and condensates.

The recent tanker seizure is expected to hit Venezuelan oil revenues through higher shipping and insurance costs. PDVSA is forced to rely on intermediaries and levy significant discounts in order to place crude cargoes in international markets.

An oversupply of sanctioned crude from Iran and Russia has likewise cut into PDVSA’s profit margins in recent weeks.

The Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (Mincyt), through the Corporation for Scientific and Technological Development (Codecyt), signed a strategic alliance with the Iranian company MDA Medical Solutions. The Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, highlighted that the initiative is part of the agreements established at the tenth meeting of the Iran-Venezuela High-Level Joint Commission.

The Minister explained that this action will allow for the activation of production lines, enabling the sharing of resources, knowledge, and capabilities to reduce costs. The objective is to open “new markets, both nationally and regionally, with efficient and competitive production, generating technological solutions.”

Venezuela and Iran Reaffirm Strategic Cooperation Amid U.S. Threats

In the first stage of the alliance, four production lines will be established for essential equipment: electroshock devices, electrocardiograms, monitors, and ventilators. Jiménez stated that this will generate “significant contributions to the national health industry,” benefiting the people.

Among the advantages and benefits of the alliance with Iran, the minister highlighted the strengthening of health and technological sovereignty, technology transfer, training of Venezuelan personnel, and strategic positioning.

This action contributes to the economic and productive growth of the Bolivarian nation, within the framework of the Great Mission for Science, Technology, and Innovation Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán, aimed at strengthening health and technological sovereignty through South-South strategic alliances.

This step demonstrates the commitment to bilateral cooperation and technology transfer to guarantee the health and well-being of the Venezuelan people, counteracting the effects of the coercive measures imposed by the United States.

In recent days, the presidents of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, held a telephone conversation to reaffirm their strategic cooperation and bilateral solidarity in the face of Washington’s growing military threats in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Pezeshkian also denounced the US actions as “hostile provocations” that violate international law and set a “dangerous precedent” for the global community. The Iranian president further emphasized that Washington is “the greatest threat to international peace.”

Previously, the Iranian government condemned then-President Donald Trump’s announcement to close Venezuelan airspace, calling the measure a violation of international law and a direct threat to global aviation. It also acknowledged Venezuela’s “coherence, strength, and commitment” in its current development, which guarantees peace.

In this regard, President Pezeshkian reaffirmed his commitment to continue working in all previously agreed areas of competence, thus consolidating the 20-year strategic cooperation agreement signed between the two nations, which Caracas considers the cornerstone of their joint efforts. For his part, President Maduro extended a message of solidarity and affection to the Iranian people, reaffirming that bilateral cooperation is at its best.

Julius van der Walt, a United Nations (UN) expert and head of the Mine Action Programme (UNMAS) in the Palestinian Territories, highlighted that more than two years of intense Israeli attacks have resulted in explosive contamination that is affecting humanitarian aid and making reconstruction efforts dangerous, impacting not only the residents but also the community.

The official explained that UN teams face danger almost daily, while displaced families are at great risk. He lamented that children are the most vulnerable group, due to their curiosity and tendency to touch unexploded ordnance without realizing the danger.

Netanyahu Signs Expansionist Plan That Creates More Illegal Settlements and Divides the West Bank

Van der Walt stated that Gaza’s small size and high population density make avoiding explosive remnants nearly impossible, which could lead to major disasters. The situation is more complex compared to other conflict zones such as Syria and Lebanon.

Earlier this year, UNMAS estimated that 5% to 10% of the bombs launched by Israel against the territory failed to detonate. The head of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail al-Thawabta, reported that some 20,000 missiles, bombs, and large-caliber munitions are scattered throughout the coastal enclave following the Israeli aggression, which turned the area into “an unmarked minefield.”

Meanwhile, in previous days, Hamas called for urgent international support to remove the unexploded Israeli devices in the Gaza Strip, describing them as “time bombs that could explode at any moment.”

This urgency stems from an alert issued by the Gaza Police Directorate regarding a child who suffered minor injuries from the explosion of a “remnant of the occupation” in the northern coastal area. The threat posed by these explosive remnants is immediate and serious, especially for children.

The UN emphasized that at least 92 people were killed or injured by these devices between October 2023 and January 2025. UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires stated that since the ceasefire came into effect in October, at least 67 children have been killed in conflict-related incidents, an average of almost two children per day, demonstrating that the danger persists despite the commitment to halt the violence. It is estimated that it could take up to 14 years before Gaza is completely free of unexploded ordnance.

According to sources cited by the official agency SANA, the patrol left the base at Adnaniyah and headed towards the towns of Um Al-Adham and Rwehina, passing through Rasm Al-Halabi, Al-Mushayrifah and Um Batinah before retreating to their initial positions.

During the aggression, which occurred while fighters were flying over southern Syria, no clashes or casualties were reported.

The occupation forces have perpetuated various violations in their incursions into Syrian territory, including the demolition of land and houses, as well as the detention of civilians.

According to the Golan Foundation, since the fall of the government of Bashar al-Assad on December 8, 2025, 39 cases of abduction, including children, were perpetrated by Israeli troops in repeated raids against Syrian populations.

It qualifies the act of piracy committed on December 10, when US military forces attacked an oil tanker while sailing in international waters in the Caribbean Sea, as maritime terrorism and “a serious violation of international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Sea and the Convention for the Repression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation.

The United States government is responsible for these crimes, which harm the international community as a whole”. This action is part of the US escalation to prevent Venezuela’s legitimate right to freely use and trade its natural resources with other nations, including supplies of hydrocarbons to Cuba.

“During the first term of Donald Trump, measures were taken to hinder free trade in Venezuelan oil resources and ships transporting fuel to our country were prosecuted.

This situation persists and is now aggravated by the use of military force to try to impose its rule on Our America,” the statement said.

These actions have a negative impact on Cuba and intensify the policy of maximum pressure and economic suffocation of the United States, with a direct impact on the national energy system and consequently on the daily life of the population of the island.

This obvious act of applying the Trump corollary of the Monroe Doctrine infringes the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and demands universal condemnation.

Jara held her closing rally before a packed plaza in the northern city of Coquimbo, where she reiterated her promise of a guaranteed minimum income of 750,000 pesos (800 US dollars) per month for workers and a better redistribution of wealth.

The candidate for the Unidad por Chile (Unity for Chile) coalition emphasized the importance of defending the 40-hour workweek law, alluding to her rival’s proposal to review the initiative.

Jara also criticized Kast’s proposal to grant pardons to those aged 70 and older with terminal illnesses, including the prisoners at Punta Peuco detention center, convicted of crimes against humanity during the dictatorship.

Her rival, Jose Antonio Kast, closed his campaign with a rally at Anibal Pinto square in Temuco, where he reiterated the core of his program: security and order. He promised to make La Araucania a prosperous region.

Although Kast was second in the first round, polls show him as the favorite for the runoff, due to the support he has received from the traditional right-wing and the far-right Partido Nacional Libertario (National Libertarian Party), which is close to President Javier Milei’s ideas.

Trump described the Venezuelan tanker as the largest ever confiscated.

On Friday, the government of President Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced the seizure of an oil tanker by the United States near Venezuela and called it a serious violation of international law, as Latin America and the Caribbean is a “Zone of Peace.”

RELATED:

Mexico Strengthens Solidarity with Cuba by Sending 400,000 Barrels of Oil

The Cuban Foreign Affairs Ministry (MINREX) declared that the maritime assault constitutes piracy and terrorism, which is part of the U.S. policy to impede Venezuela’s right to trade natural resources, including hydrocarbons destined for Cuba.

MINREX added that these actions intensify the U.S. policy of maximum pressure and “economic strangulation,” which directly affects the national energy system and the daily lives of the Cuban people.

The seizure of the tanker was an application of the Monroe Doctrine, a U.S. doctrine that maintains that Latin America falls within Washington’s sphere of influence. MINREX recalled that ships transporting fuel to Cuba were also targeted during Trump’s first term.

Trump PROUDLY announces an act of terrorism & piracy.

The US STOLE an oil tanker from Venezuela bound for Cuba

The aim is to starve Cuba of energy & worsen its blackout crisis.

This is pure evil. The ‘peace president’ has made the U.S. a terrorist state.pic.twitter.com/8ImaNadqKl

— ADAM (@AdameMedia) December 10, 2025

MINREX lamented that the situation persists and worsens with the use of U.S. military force, since Cuba obtains approximately one-third of its oil from Venezuela, primarily in exchange for professional services such as doctors and teachers.

The lack of foreign currency in Cuba to import fuel is the main cause of prolonged daily blackouts, which severely impact the lives of the population.

Trump described the oil tanker as the largest ever confiscated during a roundtable with business leaders at the White House. The seizure could further hamper Venezuelan oil exports, as other carriers will likely be reluctant to load cargoes. This would impact Venezuela’s international trade.

Since September, the U.S. Armed Forces have destroyed more than twenty vessels allegedly carrying drugs in the Caribbean and Pacific, which led to the extrajudicial killings of more than 80 people.

The National Assembly of Venezuela unanimously approved the Law for Palestine and Humanity, Law Repealing the Rome Statute, in its second reading.

This law, passed on Thursday, Dec. 11, would allow Venezuela to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), given “the futility of an institution that should serve to protect peoples but instead serves only the designs of US imperialism,” according to the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez.

Thus, Venezuela repeals the Law Approving the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which was ratified by the Venezuelan government in 2000. “The Law Approving the Rome Statute of the ICC, published in Special Official Gazette No. 5,307 of December 13, 2000, is hereby repealed in its entirety,” the head of the parliament declared, before the bill was put to a vote.

He added that the approval of this law is a consequence of Venezuela’s condemnation of the genocide in Gaza committed by the Zionist entity and the silence of the ICC in this regard, as well as its silence amid the United States’ invasion threats and attacks against Venezuela.

Global Outcry as US Escalates Military Threats Against Venezuela

The first discussion of this bill took place on Dec. 2, when lawmakers underscored that the Repealing Law is an act of dignity in which Venezuela stands on the side of peace, as stated by Bussy Galeano, deputy of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Thereafter, on Dec. 9, a public consultation was held, with the participation of parliamentarians, jurists from across the country, representatives of social movements, and various sectors of society.

Once approved by the parliament, the bill will pass to President Nicolás Maduro for his approval and authorization for Venezuela to withdraw from the ICC.

Subsequently, it will be published in the Official Gazette as a Law of the Republic and will enter into force with immediate effect.

By Kit Klarenberg – Dec 10, 2025

Leaked files reviewed by The Grayzone show the US gov’t covertly funded Nepalese youth groups in the run-up to a violent coup. The “Gen Z” shadow army mobilized as the US sought to neutralize Chinese and Indian influence over Kathmandu – now controlled by a leader chosen by an informal social media poll.

The US government’s National Endowment for Democracy (NED) spent hundreds of thousands of dollars tutoring dozens of Nepalese youth on “strategies and skills in organizing protests and demonstrations” prior to a violent coup which overthrew the government of Nepal in September 2025, leaked documents show.

The documents reveal a clandestine campaign organized by an NED division known as the International Republican Institute (IRI) that sought to cultivate a Nepalese “network” of young political activists explicitly designed to “become an important force to support US interests.” The leaked documents note that the IRI’s program “connects vibrant youth… and political leaders” and “provides comprehensive trainings on how to launch advocacy campaigns and protests.”

The demonstrations organized under the NED’s umbrella would relate to “issues selected” by the Institute and its local collaborators, thereby “ensuring the U.S. concerns with Nepal’s democracy [would] be resolved,” an IRI report stated. As The Grayzone reported, a similar effort by the IRI in Bangladesh helped generate a coup in August 2024.

Nepal was rocked by so-called “Gen Z” protests in September 2025 after authorities blocked access to social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter/X, citing the companies’ failure to abide by local regulations requiring them to register with the government. At least 76 people were killed during the resulting violence, including multiple police officers, leading to the resignation of communist Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli less than a week after the violence began.

Days later, he was replaced by an interim leader chosen in an anonymous poll which registered fewer than 10,000 votes from Discord accounts.

Though the unrest was widely characterized in Western media as a peaceful and democratic uprising against an authoritarian government, video of the mayhem showed protesters armed with semi-automatic rifles rampaging throughout cities. The Jolly Roger flag from the popular anime series One Piece featured prominently – just as it did during recent anti-government “Gen Z” rebellions in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Mexico. Due in part to their proximity to China or the US, each of those countries is also considered a crucial chess piece in the game of international politics.

Nepal held particular importance for the IRI, the leaks show. The Institute gushed over Nepal’s “strategic geographic location” between China and India, which they said “makes the country core” to Washington’s “Indo-Pacific” ambitions — namely, encircling Beijing with pliable governments and US military installations. IRI initiatives to educate Kathmandu’s youth to “use their power for policy intervention” and to influence “national decision-making” were forecast to have an impact “beyond the life” of the underlying projects. Alumni would not only be primed to cause street-level havoc, but create political parties and run for office.

The leaked files show the IRI drew inspiration from the so-called “Enough is Enough” protests which unfolded in Nepal in the summer of 2020 in response to the government’s COVID policies. For the Institute, those demonstrations proved the ability of young people “to shape and play a significant role in Nepali politics,” and extract concessions from the government – a “success” which the NED subsidiary was keen to “sustain” and “capitalize on.” The Institute therefore decided to begin providing the country’s youth with “opportunities and platforms to develop extensive, sustainable networks to effectively advocate for common concerns and be successful champions for democratic change supported by the US.”

Since its creation in 1983, the NED has secretly bankrolled similar initiatives across the globe in an effort to topple sovereign governments, with one of its founders openly boasting that “a lot of what we do today was done covertly 25 years ago by the CIA.” The documents strongly suggest that the chaos that played out in Kathmandu in September may have represented the culmination of Washington’s efforts to cultivate a political leadership in Nepal conducive to its “Indo-Pacific strategy.” As the region grows increasingly interconnected amid India’s recent tilt further towards China and Russia, the US national security state would undoubtedly welcome the installation of a more pliable government in the geopolitically vital country of Nepal.

Young activists promote ‘reform advocated by the US’
Among the most crucial IRI projects in Nepal was a program called “Yuva Netritwa: Paradarshi Niti” (Youth Leadership: Transparent Policy), which ran at an initial cost of $350,000 from July 2021 to June 2022. The IRI project sought to provide “emerging leaders [with] increased opportunities to build momentum for youth activism and put pressure on Nepali political decision-makers,” the documents show. The program was predicted to “benefit” between 60 – 70 young Nepalis.

“Networks of youth activists and political leaders” would be cultivated in Nepal, provided with “skills, resources, and platforms to build connections” and communicate their grievances publicly, then trained to “advocate concerns on political turmoil, government corruption and national policymaking,” the files state. Washington’s concerns would be addressed by “advocacy campaigns and protests, urging the government of Nepal to pay more attention to their concerns and promoting democratic reform advocated by the US.”

Once a sufficient number of Nepalese “youth leaders” who “endorse and advocate” US “values” were groomed, they could then be mobilized “to launch advocacy campaigns on Nepali issues of US concern.” To bolster its project, IRI pledged to deploy an Emerging Leaders Academy (ELA), which it described as “an IRI program that seeks to bring together young civic activists and political leaders… and provide them with the skills, platforms, and resources needed to initiate positive change in their communities.”

The Institute boasted that its other ELA programs “elsewhere in Asia,” such as Sri Lanka and Indonesia, had “seen success” in preparing its hand-selected youth activists “to assume leadership positions within their communities and parties.”

IRI undertook to “specifically solicit applications” to its Nepalese ELA “from young participants in a range of different sectors – including political parties, civil society and the media.” These “youth leaders” would be provided with “the skills and knowledge to ensure that future advocacy efforts and protests are effective and sustainable enough to encourage more people to engage” in US-approved political action, the report states.

Once they’d returned to their everyday lives, the Institute would “encourage and support participants to strive for higher positions in [their] respective political parties.”

IRI expressed confidence that it would create a Nepalese “youth network” that “has a say in national decision-making.” The Institute’s hand-picked young troublemakers would learn “methods… to effectively broadcast messages of advocacy campaigns and protests,” the report’s authors wrote, specifically highlighting “social media and other web-based tools” as ideal ways to get the word out. In the end, “the remarkable results of the advocacy campaigns and protests will be known by more and more young people and arouse their interest in participation,” IRI predicted.

In August 2021, when seeking $500,000 for a local “youth civic education project,” the IRI cited internal research indicating 90% of young Nepalese were “disengaged with politics.” Because youth comprised 40% of the country’s population, it was therefore seen as critical to train future civic and political leaders who “support the development of a sustainable strong federalist nation that is vital to the US’s Indo-Pacific strategy.” IRI boasted of being “uniquely prepared to leverage its civil society and political contacts” to support this objective. It is unknown whether those funds were ultimately disbursed.

Another leaked file outlines how IRI developed “training manuals for Youth Empowerment Workshops,” to further the objectives of both Yuva Netritwa: Paradarshee Neeti and NED’s local ELA chapter. These events were intended to attract Young Nepalis from across the country who were “both politically affiliated and unaffiliated, to strengthen their capacity to make positive change… and develop their leadership qualities.” The sessions were meant to help participants brush up on their “public speaking, strategic messaging, resource mobilization, advocacy campaign and protest management and effective governance,” the document explains.

Workshop attendees were taught how youth activists had achieved “socio-economic and political changes” across the globe, and given tips on how to recreate those movements on a local level. Simultaneously, they were individually evaluated for “leadership potential,” and given tutorials focused on “inspiring and motivating the participants to be rational, good and effective leaders to lead change.” They were also encouraged to “exercise leadership,” with lessons on “how young leaders can drive political change through protest.”

The final module focused on “enhancing the knowledge and skills of the participants,” in order to help them seek “accountability” from “public office bearers.” This was to be achieved by training attendees “in the use of modern technology for collecting data, tracking community concerns, and articulating the concerns” through online campaigning, “leveraging digital tools identified by the technical experts in IRI’s Digital Democracy practice.”

IRI’s covert curriculum also included lessons on “strategies and skills in organizing protests and demonstrations” in order to influence “local, provincial, and national” politics. Meanwhile, the Institute enlisted the services of a Kathmandu-based firm, Solutions Consultant, to conduct extensive focus grouping from February to April 2022, seeking “to identify and evaluate the barriers Nepali youth face while engaging in the political process.”

Solutions Consultant was to conduct seven focus group discussions, and “recruit 8 – 10 participants for each in person group or 5 – 7 participants for each online group as well as 2 – 3 alternates in case any of the original participants are unable to participate.” The cost of this exercise was $9,135, a negligible fraction of the $350,000 annually IRI invested in its Nepalese “youth empowerment” operations. This suggests a sizable number of locals were surveyed, though exactly how many were radicalized in total is not clear.

IRI staffers sought “to observe the focus group discussions in person or remotely,” and demanded “high quality” recordings of the meetings “with clear sound,” along with “full verbatim transcripts in English” from Solutions Consultant. The company would also ensure “each participant speaker” could be identified “by number or first name,” to connect their comments with their “exact age, education level, city and occupation.” Attendees were “between the ages of 18 and 35, with each session roughly gender balanced.”

“The youth will be political leaders and activists, including but not limited to youth wings of political parties, politically unaffiliated activists and civil society representatives, as well as youth who are not civically active,” IRI declared. The Institute also sought “key informant interviews” with “civil society activists and politicians” to explore the question. Solutions Consultant was charged with contacting “potential interviewees” provided by IRI, “with the goal of recruiting them for an interview and/or to obtain recommendations for potential additional or alternate interviewees.”

Coup clears path for monarchy’s return
IRI explicitly instructed moderators of focus group discussions that they “should emphasize that it is important that the participants speak freely and openly,” and that participants must “understand that their comments, both positive and negative, will make a contribution to understanding and addressing the barriers preventing the full participation of youth in politics.” The IRI described its “guide” as designed to “familiarize the moderator with the questions and issues that we would like to see addressed.”

As long as moderators focused on the IRI’s handpicked topics, they were “free to combine questions, change questions, omit questions that do not seem to be working and add questions in response to interesting trends as they become apparent.”

Entitled “Qualitative Study on Political Participation of Youths in Nepal,” the end product offered extensive insight into perceived barriers to political engagement locally. In a twist of irony, several interviewees expressed frustration that young citizens were “often used and discarded” by established political parties, which sought only to advance their own agendas. An unnamed 24-year-old male noted that Kathmandu’s Congress Party exploited “youth during demonstrations” when convenient, only to later ignore them and their concerns. They hinted these party-sponsored protesters were incentivized to employ violent tactics.

“The government creates policies and the youth demonstrate in rejection,” the attendee added. Elsewhere, an anonymous informant from the opposition Bibeksheel Sajha Party was quoted as saying that “capable youth are kept out of meaningful politics and are only used to bolster the demonstrations and riots” orchestrated against Nepal’s government of the day by “traditional parties”. Youth activists were “used to fight on the streets and safeguard the positions of the leaders, but they have no say in how to develop their nation,” the informant lamented.

This dynamic, in which young activists wreaked havoc on Nepalese politics through demonstrations sparked by opposition to government policy, was clearly demonstrated just a few years later, when “Gen Z” protests ousted Kathmandu’s elected government. The mayhem was sparked by precisely the concerns which IRI sought to exploit, raising questions about whether it was inspired by a US government meddling campaign.

As the New York Times admitted in a September 15th editorial, while “Nepalis from all walks of life were ready to reject the system they had fought for decades to achieve,” they lacked “any clear sense of what comes next.” This vacuum has triggered a resurgence of forces seeking to restore Nepal’s monarchy, which was finally driven from power in 2008 after decades of political resistance by republican forces.

As The Times noted, arsonists targeted “almost every organ of state power,” including parliament, party offices, and the homes of government ministers. Military institutions, however, were left untouched, as was the palace of Nepal’s former king, Gyanendra Shah, who issued a statement in support of the “Gen Z” insurgents. Since then, the army has actively sought to empower pro-monarchist figures by including them in discussions about Kathmandu’s future government with protest leaders.

If IRI training contributed to the September coup, the US will have cleared a path for the installation of a leader who will advance its imperial interests, but from behind an internet-inspired, anarchic aesthetic of youthful defiance.

This fixed-wing plane has a ferry range of 7,000 kilometers.

On Thursday morning, the Jiutian large unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) took its inaugural flight in Shaanxi Province. This fixed-wing plane was designed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), with a wingspan of 25 meters, a maximum takeoff weight of 16 tonnes and a payload capacity of 6,000 kilograms.

U.S. Sanctions on Oil Tankers Violate International Law: China

The Jiutian UAV can operate for up to 12 hours, has a ferry range of 7,000 kilometers, and includes a drone swarm module, which can release several dozen suicide drones over an area.

“In war, there is the difference between gaining air superiority and utilizing the air superiority gained. The former is to deny your enemy’s air assets from operating over an area, without much in ground support. The latter is to use the absence of enemy air assets and air defenses to support your ground operations. Drones like Jiutian massively benefit this part,” explained Zhao DaShuai, a Chinese citizen.

Just a day earlier, AVIC’s electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft AR-E800 was sent soaring on its first flight in Jiangxi Province. The electric drone, featuring six coaxial rotors, lifted off from an airfield with a deep, powerful hum.

In approximately four minutes, it ran through a full suite of maneuvers, including takeoff, hovering, turns, and forward and backward flight. Designed for whisper-quiet, zero-emissions operations, it can carry a 300-kilogram payload.

The dual test flights came amid efforts to unlock market potential in urban logistics and emergency response as Chinese aviation manufacturers have bet on heavy-lift cargo drones over the past two years.

The global cargo-drone market is projected to approach US$5 billion by 2031, expanding at a 35.8 percent compound annual growth rate, Chinese consultancy firm QYResearch estimates.

PLAYERS PILE IN

In March, the Yitong UAV’s TP1000 — an airworthiness-certified, tonne-class freighter — logged a 26-minute first flight. With a 1,000-kilogram payload, 30 orders for the model have already been secured from clients such as delivery giant ZTO Express. Under Chinese standards, cargo drones with a maximum takeoff weight of at least 150 kilograms qualify as large cargo drones.

The Boying T1400 unmanned helicopter, developed by Shenzhen-based United Aircraft, flew into the sky in late October in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. Capable of carrying a 650-kilogram maximum payload for over eight hours, it can operate in extreme temperatures ranging from minus 40 to 55 degrees Celsius and climb to an altitude of 6,500 meters.

This month, a general-purpose transport and delivery drone rolled off the production line in the city of Shenyang. With a 2-tonne cargo capacity, it requires just 800 meters of rough runway.

Also in the pipeline are Air White Whale’s 5-tonne-payload W5000 and the 10-tonne CM100 from a Shenyang-based aircraft maker. Delivery service providers including China Post Group and JD Logistics have already signed letters of intent to purchase the latter model.

MARKET POTENTIAL

In the remote mountains and rainforests of Yunnan Province, Chinese grid workers are rewriting the rules of heavy logistics. A fleet of heavy-lift drones delivered 180 tonnes of materials for three transmission towers in just three days — a task that would once have taken a month using horses and cableways.

At the solar power-grid connection project, 16 drones operated by China Southern Power Grid moved 2,000 tonnes of materials, including supplies for 52 towers along a 22-kilometer stretch, up treacherous terrain. This approach minimized environmental impact in a fragile karst region, cutting road-building costs by 80 percent and labor by 60 percent.

At another project on the China-Laos power line, a fleet of 30-plus drones and helicopters airlifted 5,000 tonnes of tower materials, sparing nearly 7 hectares of rainforest and more than 30,000 trees in a priority corridor for Asian elephants.

Drones have already played a role in transporting urgent medical supplies in some Chinese cities. Now, their utility is scaling up to heavier payloads, enabling applications in bulk agricultural logistics and remote infrastructure projects.

Similar adoptions are being made in offshore operations. In August, a 2-tonne eVTOL completed a cargo flight to an offshore oil platform, transporting fresh fruits and medical supplies from the city of Shenzhen to a platform 150 kilometers offshore in just 58 minutes.

China’s heavy-lift UAVs still under development are engineered to support multiple civil operations. Jiutian’s modular payload system enables roles such as the precise delivery of heavy cargo in remote regions, emergency communication, disaster relief, geographic survey and resource mapping.

Tickets to any of the 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup have reached astronomical prices even though there are still six months to go before the start of the tournament hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Initially, the tickets offered by FIFA last September (when the names of many participating teams and all the matchups were still unknown) ranged from 1,092 to 122,000 pesos, but they sold out immediately through official channels. On the resale market, prices have already reached a minimum of 64,900 pesos1 [$3,603USD], with a maximum of almost 23 million pesos [$1,276,810USD] for the final, which will be played in New York-New Jersey on July 19.

Only two types of people can afford to spend 23 million pesos to see a soccer match: organized crime bosses and the beneficiaries of labor exploitation, tax evasion, financial deregulation, and the harmful concentration of wealth.

It should be noted that even the legally issued prices have tripled what the organizers offered in their bid document published in 2018: at that time, they promised the cheapest ticket would cost $21 (it actually cost $60) and that the complete package to follow a team from its first match to the final would cost around $2,242 in the cheapest category, but it’s now clear that it won’t be possible for less than $6,900. For this reason, the Football Supporters Europe (FSE) group yesterday asked FIFA to “stop selling World Cup tickets, hold consultations with all affected parties, and review the prices” until they find “a solution that respects the tradition, universality, and cultural importance” of this event, which for decades has been the most watched by television viewers and fans worldwide. In particular, the FSE points out that tickets for the competition in North America are five times more expensive than those for the 2022 edition in Qatar, a completely disproportionate increase from any perspective.

The exorbitant prices imposed for the World Cup are part of a phenomenon known as funflation; that is, inflation in entertainment costs far exceeding the general inflation rate. This affects the most popular live shows, as well as other forms of entertainment such as movies, bars, and trendy restaurants. The figures are very telling, both globally and in the case of Mexico: in 1985, an American student with a summer job (earning minimum wage) could afford a ticket to see the most famous singers of the moment with three or four hours of work, while today, access to a similar artist would require 60 hours of work. Returning to soccer, what was once the quintessential popular spectacle now demands enormous sacrifices from the working class, or is simply out of their reach. The most expensive ticket for the Mexican soccer league final cost 150 pesos in 2002, while in 2024 it rose to 4,000 pesos, not counting resale: from four to 16 days of minimum wage, even though in the last seven years the base salary went from 88 to 315 pesos.

FIFA’s bloody footprints stain the globe.

Funflation is explained, to some extent, by the rise of the “experience economy,” in which consumers value events more than the acquisition of goods and are therefore willing to pay much more than before to attend an event they can showcase on their social media. The consolidation of monopolies like Ticketmaster, Live Nation, and Ocesa also plays an undeniable role, as they eliminate competition by controlling both venues and ticket sales. Of course, FIFA itself is a global monopoly in the realm of professional football. The advent of the digital age has given monopolistic companies new tools to fleece their customers; for example, through “dynamic pricing”: instead of setting a price and allowing the most devoted fans to camp out to secure a ticket, companies raise the price based on demand, turning sales into frenzied auctions.

A superficial glance might suggest there’s nothing inherently wrong with the scenario described, as it’s simply the law of supply and demand in action. But the fact is that artificially inflating the price of mass entertainment violates the human right to culture and leisure. Furthermore, it’s inextricably linked to the parallel rise in inequality and the criminal economy, since it’s clear that only two types of people can afford to spend 23 million pesos to see a soccer match: organized crime bosses and the beneficiaries of labor exploitation, tax evasion, financial deregulation, and the harmful concentration of wealth.

The Totonicapan leaders are legitimate ancestral authorities in a territory with over 500 years of history.

On Friday, more than 60 Guatemalan, international human rights, and Indigenous organizations demanded the release of Luis Pacheco and Hector Chaclan, Indigenous authorities who have been detained for 233 days.

Guatemala Denounces Delay in Hearings Against former Indigenous Leaders

The statement was signed by the New Guatemala Migrant Alliance (Amingua), the International Center for Human Rights Research (CIDH), Amandia Radio Collective, and the Latin American and Caribbean Solidarity Network (LACSN), and denounces the accusations made by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office accused Pacheco and Chaclan of terrorism, illicit association, and obstruction of justice. However, the organizations reject the charges and argue that the demonstrations were peaceful and in defense of democracy.

In Oct. 2023, authorities from 48 cantons of Totonicapan, among whom were Indigenous leaders, held 106 days of protests in front of the Attorney General’s Office. They demanded the resignation of Attorney General Consuelo Porras and respect for the electoral process.

Pacheco and Chaclan sent a letter from prison affirming that peaceful protests for democracy and a transition of power are a constitutional right, never terrorism or a crime.

They recalled that the Totonicapan authorities are legitimate ancestral leaders in a territory with more than 500 years of history, a symbol of Indigenous autonomy and the defense of collective rights.

The imprisoned leaders expressed their sorrow at being separated from their families, while human rights defenders demanded their immediate release, the dismissal of the criminal proceedings, and respect for Indigenous peoples.

This article by Vanessa Rivas originally appeared in the December 11, 2025 edition of El Heraldo de Chihuahua.

The National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside announced that starting Tuesday they will begin demonstrations on highways and customs offices across the country, awaiting a favorable response from the Federal Government to their proposal to create a reserve of basic grains to stabilize prices.

The initiative, which proposes a joint investment of 100 billion pesos between the Federal Government and private enterprise, seeks to stabilize prices, strengthen food sovereignty and provide certainty to thousands of producers affected by the crisis in the countryside.

Eraclio Yako Rodríguez Gómez, leader of the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside [and a former Morena Deputy elected in 2018 – editor], explained that this reserve would allow the country to be protected from international price crises, strengthen food sovereignty, and provide certainty to millions of farming families.

Eraclio Yako Rodríguez Gómez is a former Morena deputy & was previously President of the Commission for Rural Development and Conservation, Agriculture and Food Self-Sufficiency of the Chamber of Deputies

Yako Rodríguez Gómez reported that starting next Tuesday, mobilizations will begin on highways and toll booths throughout the country, as part of the pressure to get the Federal Government to give a positive response to the proposal.

He warned that if they do not reach agreements again, the farmers will once again take to the streets, international bridges, and, in Mexico City, the areas surrounding various embassies.

Starting Tuesday, farmers from various states will set up along the sides of major highways—without blocking them—as a form of protest. In Chihuahua, the demonstrations will be concentrated at the Sacramento tollbooth and in the municipality of Jiménez.

Yako Rodríguez explained that the mobilizations are part of a national day of action whose objective is to highlight the deterioration of conditions in the Mexican countryside and demand actions that guarantee fair prices for basic grains.

The meeting with the Federal Government, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has been rescheduled for Wednesday morning. Participants will include Julio Berdegué Sacristán, head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER); María Luisa Albores González, Director General of Food for Well-being; Leonel Cota Montaño, Undersecretary of Agriculture; as well as Undersecretaries of Finance, Economy, and the Interior.

The leader indicated that a technical commission from the Front would work on Monday and Tuesday to refine the points of the proposal for the creation of this food reserve. “ I foresee that we can reach an agreement,” Rodríguez Gómez stated.

The Front presented a technically and financially structured project, with an approximate cost of 100 billion pesos, which would allow Mexico to have a stabilization instrument in the face of market crises and climatic phenomena.

The proposal suggests that the State and private enterprise share the investment, in order to achieve guaranteed prices that will allow producers to emerge from the current crisis.

According to Yako Rodríguez, the strategic reserve would consist of 300,000 tons of beans, acquired by the Food for Well-being program at 20 pesos per kilo; 10 million tons of white and yellow corn, paid at 7,200 pesos per ton; 1 million tons of wheat and an equivalent volume of sorghum, both at 6,500 pesos per ton.

The plan also includes the creation of a 6 billion peso fund to finance oilseeds and other operational mechanisms to regulate the market and prevent speculation.

The leader argued that this reserve would function as a “food bank” , drawing on experiences once led by ASERCA (Agency for Marketing Services and Agricultural Market Development), a decentralized Mexican agency of the then SAGARPA, but now with a greater capacity to react to price cycles, droughts and logistical disruptions.

Yako Rodríguez insisted that the measure would allow Mexico to regain room to maneuver in the face of external pressures. “A country with a strategic reserve has decision-making power. Without it, we depend on what other markets dictate,” he stated.

Finally, he pointed out that situations like the corn crisis in Chihuahua—where currently “no one wants to buy it”—exemplify the urgent need for a price stabilization mechanism. “If they manage to pay six pesos, that’s already a win; we propose that it should be paid at seven ,” he emphasized.

According to the study presented by Ombudsman Eduardo Leblanc, this country has made progress in legislation, but reality shows that it still does not adequately protect women.

“Femicides, physical and sexual violence, delayed care, and digital violence continue to put lives at risk,” he emphasized.

In this regard, the official demanded strengthened inter-institutional coordination and guaranteed specific budgets for protection.

He also referred to the proposal to eliminate the Ministry of Women and revive the National Institute for Women under the umbrella of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides).

In this regard, he commented that it is not important whether it is a ministry or an institute, but rather that it be given an adequate budget for the implementation of clear policies in favor of one of the most vulnerable populations.

Another aspect highlighted in the report is the persistent challenge of guaranteeing access to basic services and the safety of minors.

This year, 2025, cases of bullying, inadequate infrastructure, and limitations in protection systems were recorded, according to the document.

With his statement, the NATO Secretary General essentially stabbed the peace negotiations in the back. We Hungarians, as members of the bloc, reject the Secretary General’s words! Szijjártó wrote on his Facebook page, where he described the provocative statements as irresponsible and dangerous.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister reacted to Rutte’s speech last Wednesday at a forum in Berlin, in which he urged Europeans to prepare for a war like the one their “grandparents and great-grandparents” experienced, and reiterated that Ukraine’s security is essential to that of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Local analysts believe the strong rejection underscores the deep division within the Atlantic alliance, while the open criticism of its top official by one member of the military bloc is unusual and symptomatic.

The diplomatic incident comes at a time of heightened tension, with the North Atlantic alliance conducting its largest military exercises in decades and Hungary maintaining its veto on funds and decisions related to Ukraine, insisting that European security must be guaranteed through diplomacy and deterrence, not through unchecked escalation.

Hungary’s position aligns with the repeated statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who have asserted that Moscow has no intention of attacking NATO or EU countries, dismissing such accusations as “nonsense” and “outright lies.”

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun reiterated Beijing’s firm opposition to these measures, which he described as “lacking any basis in international law and not authorized by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).”

Guo underscored that such actions are a practice of “long arm jurisdiction” that violates basic principles of the global legal order.

The spokesperson reiterated China’s stance against the abusive use of sanctions as a tool of political or economic pressure.

Since the beginning of the US military deployment off the Venezuelan coast and the pressure exerted by the government of President Donald Trump on Caracas, China has repeatedly rejected the interference of external forces in the internal affairs of the South American country under any pretext.

The two countries have a resilient and enduring strategic partnership, and Beijing has supported the government’s efforts to protect sovereignty and national security, national dignity, and social stability in Venezuela.
