Hi guys, I apologise if this seems obvious but I can’t work it out. How do I defederate an instance I don’t want to see posts from in my feed, if the server is still permitted on my instance? I don’t want to block all federation, just from specific servers.

Thanks!

Hello

Since the federation have been turned on, I can now see post from Lemmy.
While peculiar magazines have a clear name like Lemmyworld or something, the origin of the thread is still like this:
"Title of the thread (kbin.social)"

There is no way to know where it is from beside opening it.

Am I missing something ?

Hey

I noticed that URLs are case sensitive. e.g. https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/ is not the same as https://kbin.social/m/kbinmeta/ and will 404. would be pretty neat if it were case insensitive.

Thanks :)

Like, let's say I didn't want to see anything from lemmygrad. I don't actually plan on blocking anything at the moment, but specifically in kbin, how would I go about blocking full instances? Or is that something I can't do? Sorry, I'm still very new and trying to figure this all out.

Just a quick and dirty userscript to add some features I feel are super important. I'll probably look into creating some real PRs, but I figure the devs are probably in "put out fires" mode right now.

EDIT:
Added a few more features and cleaned up the expand / collapse UI. All features are toggleable in the kbin sidebar.

I'm guessing it has something to do with mastodon, since microblogging is interoperable with mastodon like how threads are interoperable with lemmy.

Example post:
https://kbin.social/m/technology@beehaw.org/p/434431

I can see this post on beehaw here:
https://beehaw.org/post/565892

But next to it in technology@beehaw.org are threads that show up in the threads section of kbin.social/m/technology@beehaw.org

How are threads and microblogs distinguished on different instances if they're both interoperable with both lemmy and mastodon like this appears to be? How can you access the general mastodon feed from kbin?

How do I prevent NSFW thumbnails from being blurred?

I've been through the settings and can't find a way to disable this.

It was working fine the other day, but now they're all blurred. How do I change this?

Greetings, kbeans! I wanted to inform you that Kbin Link is now available on the Firefox Extension Store. If you're interested, you can find more information about it here: https://github.com/driccio98/kbin-link.

Kbin Link is a browser extension designed to simplify your browsing experience across different online communities. It detects community mentions in the format of "!communityname@lemmy.world" and it recognizes links in the format of "https://lemmy.word/c/memes" across any website and adds a convenient icon at the beginning. This icon allows you to quickly redirect to the corresponding community on Kbin, where you can easily subscribe to it.

Since this is a small project, there may be a few bugs or areas for improvement. If you encounter any issues or have suggestions, please let me know by leaving an issue on the GitHub repository.

Edit: Soon on the chrome store too!

Link to firefox store: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/kbin-link/

Thank you for your support!

Is there a way to set up an RSS feed to get notifications from Kbin? The current issue with the notifications is that they are contained completely in the site so you have to actually check the site for the notification. On mobile I'm using an app called Hermit to use the mobile site and it has an option to set RSS feeds for notifications so if there was a way to make an RSS feed of my notifications I could get push notifications on mobile. Any insight would be helpful!

A few questions (well, I have like 20 but I’m just sticking to a few rn..) for a new mobile browser user:

  1. How can I see local only content on kbin? I like the kbin content more rn and am getting a bit overwhelmed with all of the posts & instances/magazines I am not as interested in taking up the main feed. But with it being new to me I don’t wanna just stick to my subscribed magazines since there may be a bunch of new growing ones I’d wanna see on my feed. Any way to do this? Another way to put it, I’d like to unfederate my feed - take me back to yester-night

  2. Is there any way to minimize the post or a comment tree? It’s probably the only feature that I haven’t seen on kbin.social that I really want. it’s taking me soooo long to get through some comment feeds and the posts do take up a bit of space on the main feed.

  3. Is there a way yo subscribe to a post or “save” it? This is something I haven’t seen on any instance and while it’s not a major issue for me, I’d love to see it! I don’t always have the time to read a post but I wanna check back later. Any way to do that or do the people on Reddit who always comment “Commenting so I can save this post for later” finally have a leg up on me?

Thanks! Really enjoying kbin. Love this instance’s chill, community feel.

Just discovered kbin. So far, I really really love it. I like the microblog/threads separation, it's great!

What are the badges in each magazine? And how to use them? I cant find any documentation on that front. While I'm at it asking questions, how do tags work?

If I create a thread, I get a notification when someone comments. Is it possible to "subscribe" to a thread so you get notifications of new comments, even if you didn't create the thread?

Is there somewhere I can see the filesize limitations for uploading media?

And does anyone know if the URL option for media works? Clicking it doesn't seem to have any effect for me atm

As kbin gets more popular I've started to notice a recurring trend: when people respond to my comments I will get notified. I click on the notification, and it brings me to the thread.

In most cases it'll scroll down to my comment and the reply that I was notified of, so I can respond back.

however, if the thread is large kbin splits up the comments into separate "pages". and if my comment and the reply happens to not be on the first page, it won't be shown and won't be scrolled to. instead I have to manually click through each page of the thread and look for my comment and the reply.

once kbin starts getting bigger (along with the fediverse as a whole) I imagine there will likely end up being hundreds of these pages, and it'll be impossible to find my comment again.

Perhaps this is a bug? But it'd be nice if clicking the notification brought me to my actual comment and the reply, rather than just the thread as a whole (and scrolling to the comment). The latter is nice when threads are small, but when they get larger it becomes unusable. When I click the notification, I wanna immediately be able to respond to the person replying, not have to dig through the thread again.

I think kbin already supports viewing a single comment+replies, so it should be an easy enough change? @ernest I know you've got a lot on your plate right now but please consider this :)
