I would like to have a "Local" filter to only show kbin magazines. It would be listed with "Subscribed", "All", etc. That way I could filter without tuning Federation off in the settings.

I have my setting toggled to show me content from my subscribed magazines on the front page. Yesterday it was working until sometime in the evening. Since then I am getting what looks like assorted posts from "All." I know this is probably a temporary bug, but is anyone else experiencing this?

Looking to add more local magazines. Any recommendations on kbin magazines?

Is there any way to request becoming a mod for a magazine where the creator made it and then has gone dark? I have tried to reach out to them but they aren't responding and have no acitivity

Hi all!

So far I'm really loving Lemmy and Kbin. However, when I choose a username for Kbin I couldn't think of anything and now I'm kind of regretting the username I picked. It's not a huge deal, I just don't really like it.

Is there any way to change your username? is there an admin that could do this for me?
If no, can I simply create a new account using the same e-mail address if I delete this account?

Thanks!

I'm experimenting with setting up a kbin instance but struggling with understanding what's up and down in the .env file. What additional services do I need to install? Do I need to setup and configure smtp for sending mails? Should I change the domain to my intended domain name, or do I have to wait until I have a reverse proxy etc. set up?

Anyone have any experiences to share or an example of a configuration?

On lemmy.world, there is a button to initiate a cross post, but as far is I can tell, all it does is add the text "cross-posted from: <original post URL>" and put the original post body in a Markdown quotation environment (i.e. "> POST BODY"). This seems to be parsed by the UI and under some posts in Lemmy, it says "cross posted to: <community name>".

Would following the same formatting in Kbin accomplish the same effect?

What does the block domain feature explicitly block? Because I tried blocking a couple of lemmy domains, yet I see those very domains appear under my thread feed. As a result I've had to block the magazines belonging to said domains. Am I doing something wrong, or do I just have a misunderstanding of this feature?

When several reply comment boxes are open, clicking on formatting (e.g. bold or italic) icon applies a markup tag - but to a comment box above!

Cannot find an easy way to see my current subscribed magazines, apart from going to settings -> subscritions, that I find it very annoying.

Would be great having them on the top bar instead of random magazines I don't care about.

Also, when I browse a single magazine, I only see local content (even though the federation toggle is "On") while other magazines with the same name exist in other servers.

Wasn't this a federated network? I'd like to browse a single federated magazine.

Is there a way to export a table of all magazines at https://kbin.social/magazines ?

Minor complaint, but I think that magazine icons should be in a square format like 600x600 instead of the current maximum size of 600x500. By having the icons in a square, it would make the magazine icons look natural instead of the squashed images we see currently.

EXAMPLE

EDIT: I just noticed that this also applies to image previews too.

feature wishlist (media.kbin.social)

This site is getting better everyday, big shout out to @ernest , you're doing a fantastic job :)

I think some kind of user polled for a feature wishlist would really help you getting a grasp on what the users on kbin are eager to see on this site and maybe point out things that would improve it a lot and make an overall continually better user experience( kinda like a "ticketing system" for you/ people working on the project).

This should be as simple as possible, maybe there can/ should be different sections for UI, site functions, etc. so maybe important functional points won't get swepped under the rug by, but maybe someone with knowledge on this things can elaborate on this.

keep it up and take care :)

The mods there have decided to allow underage looking content, skirting close to CP. Unless we want such disgusting stuff on our feed, I think we should defederate from that instance.

Pinging @ernest as well.

So this is a half formed idea that might be horrible, I thought I'd throw it out there for critique.

  • We have a problem on Kbin.social and probably other instances of under staffed moderation & admin teams.
  • Some large magazines have a single moderator
  • This will soon lead to *bad-shit appearing here
  • We will likely get de-federated at some point

A random selection of peers is good enough for juries. So how about we apply it here?

Every ~100th new user is made a site wide Admin (cannot delete only unpublish content, it remains visible in the backend to other mods)

Every ~100th new Magazine subscriber is similarly made a mod of that space.

A few would go powertripping, many would be inactive, but I think it might build the mod/admin team in a reasonable way.

We have to build the processes for powertripping/inactive admins anyway, so in a sense it's not extra work.

You'd build in some randomness, so the system was harder to game, it wouldn't literally be the 100th person. It might be the 80th, or 110th, but averaging out at ~100

Case sensitivity in magazine names

This is ridiculous and is going to put off people migrating.

/m/parenting and /m/Parenting should equate to the same magazine

I feel like a highlighted basic "kbin how to" on the frontpage would really help kbin in the beginning, I still feel like I don't know exactly how all of this works, didn't knew what things like "boost" means, the difference between adding a new article/ post/ photo is still not clear to me. Just a really simple 1 minute how to would really help this page get going and help stranded redditors and new people :)

One thing that I would really love the option to do is to adjust the size of avatars. They appear incredibly tiny to me, and I think it would be a nice option to be able to adjust the size of them. I continuously find myself zooming in to be able to make out what they are. If there's already a way to do this, I haven't been able to find it.

[FEEDBACK] Inline video especially from sites like gfycat doesn't work right sometimes -- a portion of the inline video player is hidden behind the rest of the posts, or if you're looking at a post page the comments page is on top of the video player

This is the first time in years I've had trouble logging off of social media not because I'm too addicted to stop, but because I'm genuinely having fun. I'd almost forgotten what that felt like.

There's a few NSFW communities who keep getting advertised on the sidebar, showing an inappropriate photo. I don't care to see it.
