Sorry if this has already been asked. I would search for it in this magazine before asking, if I knew how 🤪

Also, my first post here on kbin. I hope I'm not doing this wrong (I'm using "Add new article", which doesn't sound exactly right, but first I tried "Add new post", and "Add new link", which didn't seem to be the right tool either. So I hope sending an "article" isn't the wrong way to start a question thread.)

I just tried sending someone on a lemmy instance a private message (solution to a riddle) and got redirected to https://kbin.social/sub instead.

Is that a bug or just how kbin handles things that are impossible (maybe lemmy doesn't have messages, or PMs between instances doesn't work)

Is it possible currently to post multiple images for a single article? I mean other than just a link to an imgur album, etc.

Revenge downvoting (kbin.social)

Is it considered acceptable to "revenge downvote" by going to a user's profile and downvoting all their posts or comments? I've seen some of this behavior going on and I don't think it reflects very well on the Fediverse or Kbin.

EDIT: Honestly didn't expect this post, of all posts, to be the one to open me up to hate. Thought fedizens were friendlier than that.

I can see many articles from other instances that end up in m/random instead of the actual magazine they were posted in. Why is this so? It's pretty annoying to be unable to view, subscribe to, or block those magazines.

I feel like the whole kbin UI is very convoluted. It's hard to find a view that shows only posts from my subscribed subs. The create post button is super far away from the actual sub. What even is a Microblog? Or why is there a tap people? Who actually cares about following someone and stuff? Am I posting a post or a microblog thing right now? Why can't I enter a title? If it's not a post, where do I find the posting option?

I really want this to be awesome and a good Reddit replacement, but I feel everything is way too hidden and convoluted right now...

I'm trying to search for otherkin@pawb.social and maia@crimew.gay so that I can follow them, but neither comes up when I use the searchbar. For the community, I know kbin.social is federated with pawb.social because other communities from there do come up in search. I've tried searching for both using name@domain, @name@domain, and full URLs. Nothing. What's going on?

Hey, just wanted to mention this thing I noticed. So I blocked a user after a few rounds in a thread, but when they responded to me, I still got the notification and could still see the first line of their post from that screen. But the entire comment thread, including my own replies, was invisible from the article page until I unblocked him.

Right now, it seems like the "block" function doesn't keep people from talking trash directly to me, it just keeps me from responding to them or seeing any part of the thread from anyone under their highest post.

That really kind of takes all the teeth out of the "block, don't defederate" argument, but I'm also sure it's just some kind of bug.

When will there be a Kbin Foundation that:

  1. collects and handles money to help build Kbin (right now I don't see a single "donate" button)
  2. owns any property of Kbin (like domain and git), so that the board of the foundation can decide what's done with it if ernest kicks the bucket or goes insane
  3. has a board that can make decisions about Kbin to spread power from one person to many?

@ernest
I don't even know how pinging works :)

I'll gladly become a donor when I see that Kbin will not be a one-guy-show for long, but a serious project that will outlive it's creator. If ernest is not actively planning to have this project live even without himself, then I bet it's not going to last.

Please comment any thoughts you have, and have a nice summer!

How does people tab work?
Does one automatically become a person as a function of registering with kbin.social or is something you have to do manually? I didn't an option for creating a person so is it limited in some way? I'm mainly just curious, not sure I want to be a person 😉

I keep seeing recommendations for scripts, but I’m not eager to just start installing a bunch of random stuff on my phone.

Hi all! Been trying to find the answer to this as a mod a few magazines.

I’m familiar with the function of tags, but what are badges for/what do they do? I haven’t been able to glean this yet.

The longer I'm here, the more I appreciate the comment field being at the bottom of existing comments. So many times I've shown up late to a thread and everything in my take is somewhere in the first page of comments so I don't need to reply.

I wanted to share some of my kbin articles by boosting them from my Calckey account, but I can't see them from Calckey. If I search for the kbin post from Calckey, either by using the "copy URL" or the "copy URL for the fediverse" link, nothing is found.

On the other hand, if I search for the post from a Mastodon account, it works, I can see the kbin post and boost it.

Any idea if the problem is on the kbin side or on the Calckey side?

For example, this magazine is named "/kbin meta" but the description says "Magazine dedicated to discussions about the kbin itself." (emphasis mine.) If you look at https://kbin.pub/en you see both

/kbin is an open source reddit-like content aggregator and microblogging platform for the fediverse.

and

Kbin is a decentralized content aggregator and microblogging platform running on the Fediverse network.

So do /kbin and kbin mean the same thing, and is one of them the more "official" name than the other? Just curious.

I noticed yesterday there seemed to be fewer and fewer thumbnail images appearing on the front page, and today there seems to be almost none at all. The ones I have seen so far seem to be from posts on this instance only, but I can't confirm that with certainty yet.

Sorry if this has already been addressed anywhere, I took a look around before posting and couldn't find anyone mentioning it. Is this happening to anybody else?

I requested account deletion and it's on queue now. How do I cancel if, when it's still not processed? I didn't get any email about that, so I think it's not about mail confirmation.

Why isn't the deletion automatical process? Like on other websites, where you just click "Delete account" and it's done? From what I understand, on kbin it's manually reviewed.

This project https://github.com/everything-gripe seems an interesting way to re-use the infinity Reddit app

Could anyone do the compatibility layer between the Kbin API and the everything API? https://github.com/orgs/everything-gripe/discussions/1

Sorry for the dumb question, but, uh, how do you collapse comment threads? I'm a bit new here, and I really like it, but I don't want to have to scroll past a lot of subcomments and side-conversations to see the next top comment. I've tried clicking on the nice colors and stuff, but I can't seem to figure it out. Can someone help me please?

Before posting this, I ensured my phone settings or thumbnails weren't distorting the layout. Despite this, I noticed that Kbin only allows me to view around three posts at a time, significantly fewer compared to 6-8 posts on similar sites. This difference slows down my ability to scan titles and locate engaging content, which is currently a major deterrent from using this site more frequently. Aside from this issue, I find Kbin's community and interface more appealing than other Reddit alternatives I've explored.

I understand the current circumstances may be chaotic, but I'm hoping this could be a simple fix. If not, I might have to wait until the development of a third-party app.

I posted a meme to a federated community (on sopuli.xyz) from kbin. It shows up fine when I view the community on kbin, but if you visit the community on the original instance, it doesn't show up. Why?

Is it possibly related to https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/104218/Lemmy-ml-is-blocking-all-requests-from-kbin-Instances ? Obviously it's a different instance, but it still seems to be a federation issue.

I don't want to bring up site performance. We all know Ernest is working hard and the site is running much better these days, at least in my experience.

What I wanted to bring up was how awesome this community has been as a whole. Most of the stuff I have learned to do has been from other users who have either figured it out or have written something to improve the site.

Learning how to block communities or instances has been a big help. I also installed the Stylus extension and used a couple of the themes to customize how Kbin looks.

One of my favorite scripts though was written by Minnieo here on Kbin. If you type / and write "a shortcut", it will auto fill in different stuff like this:

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

One of the things I really enjoyed about Reddit when I joined that site a long time ago was how small communities came together. Thank you all for everything you have taught and for all the hard work you have put in to make the user experience a little better for all of us.

Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you add an avatar/profile pic in kbin? I haven't been able to find a spot to add one, but it looks like there clearly is a way to since so many people have them. I've searched all through the settings and just... can't find the spot to do it.
