How can we add moderators to a magazine? As soon as we click moderators on any magazine we get an error. It's been going on for quite some time now

Kbin is open source. Surely the android app should be as well?

I'm having trouble getting my home Lemmy instance (lemmy.federate.cc) to play nice with Kbin and I was hoping you all might be able to shed some insight.

I'm able to find and subscribe to Kbin communities from the Lemmy side, but no posts ever come through.

On the Kbin side, it doesn't seem to know my instance exists, and if I search for communities (e.g., mixology@lemmy.federate.cc), there are no results.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray (kbin.social)

Imma start by prefacing that I like kbin way better so far.

But do you guys think they will continue to coexist long term or are we looking at an HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray scenario where only one will remain?

Just seems like they don’t play very nice. My lemmy community I created days ago still isn’t federating here. Furthermore it seems like kbin to lemmy federation is much slower and buggier than lemmy to lemmy and kbin to kbin federation.

Hard to sort by new bc sometimes lemmy posts are already off the first page by the time they federate. Sometimes stuff doesn’t federate at all. I’m almost to the point I feel like I need to have an account on each for browsing.

For the record I bought a HD-DVD player.

Step 1 is to go to the Magazines tab at the top of the page, and start browsing what our local instance here has to offer. But if you want to explore the wider world of the threadiverse, check out the list below:

Tip: How to subscribe to lemmy communities on kbin

Kbin Link, a browser extension that adds an icon next to links to lemmy communities to easily allow you to open the associated kbin magazine

Communities/Magazines
These communities are focused on helping people find, discover, and promote niche communities.

Websites
These sites are external, easy-to-browse directories of communities.

Special Interest Instances
You can go to the Communities tab on any of these sites and find niche communities to subscribe to. This is not an exhaustive list and doesn't include any location-specific or language-specific instances.

So in our settings: What is the "Featured Magazines" section and what does it do? Can't seem to find that answer anywhere so far lol

Example

Original

Is this on purpose that the upvote count and the comments are not synced?

How do I "add a new photo" to a magazine? I can browse to a local file, but the "Upload file" and "From url" buttons don't seem to do anything. I'm on firefox if it's a browser specific issue.

Can anyone tell me how I make my home page only show posts from my subscribed magazines?

Been rolling this over in my head for a bit, and am curious what makes sense to other folks.

From a user side, they can choose to add magazines/communities from any instance to a group that they define and give a nickname. This gives an individual user the only say in deciding what magazines should show up in the same place.

Any automated way of doing this is going to be hard and have edge cases, I think this is a small amount to ask and people could share collections from different instances to bootstrap. But if someone really hates the vibe of a particular instance's version of a topic (or doesn't think it's moderated to their liking) they can disconnect from it with one button.

On the posting side, it makes sense that the user would need to select one particular instance to make their "primary" for the purposes of posting.

The mods from the primary instance would be responsible for their posts; the mixing of posts from different instances would be entirely defined by the user so there's no need to think about cross-instance moderation.

The result is that you're able to follow things in a way that is convenient for you, but there's no guarantee that someone else will necessarily see your post unless they follow your primary instance.

That seems like the right balance to me, to make virtual communities large enough to be useful without forcing everyone to join the biggest instance.

Let me know if it's already been answered and I can delete this post.

Hey all, is there any way to collapse comment chains in kbin? As much as I appreciate being able to view everyone’s comments, as kbin (hopefully) grows the comments will continue to diverge into tangents and esoterica and it would be helpful to be able to collapse them to see the next top-level comment. Can’t see anything to tap on to do it.

I’m on mobile, firefox, iOS if it helps.

I really loved @FixedFun 's idea for the kbin mascot, so I decided to refine it a bit and make some color alternatives. All credit to them for this wonderful idea! I merely refined it. Note, the circles beside the logo are just a color pallete swatch, not actually meant to be apart of the logo.

Here is some alternatives as well as a phone screen mockup
Here is Fun's next to mine

As the kbird, maybe his name could be Ben, or Bin, or Binny the bird? Binjamin is pretty hilarious

details: font is poppins. program is adobe illustrator.

UPDATE: Thoughts on this one?

Hi everyone! New to Kbin here. I want to look at my Subscribed magazines feed but there are a ton of posts in there from magazines I'm not subscribed to. Am I missing something? Could I be subscribed to something larger that makes me see all those posts? I swear when I look at the feed, there are aot of posts from magazines I am not subscribed to. I can see it when I click the magazine name. I feel like I am missing something here.
Thank you for your help!

Is there a way to see what instances kbin.social is federated with? I'm unable to find a specific lemmy forum when searching for magazines, while other lemmy forums are visible

Can you make a Kbin YouTube video?

It seems that lots of people will be searching, people like watching videos.

What does the name "/kbin" actually mean? I've looked around the About page and the project site, but couldn't find any explanation.

I submitted this news article on worldnews

https://kbin.social/m/worldnews/t/121131/Woman-s-leg-amputated-at-Bangkok-airport-after-getting-stuck-in

But i cant see it. I went through a few pages and it is showing me some 6day old submissions but not my submission. Is this some sort of shadowban? Or does the magazine puts submissions on hold till a moderator approves them? Do i have to be an approved submitter?

The state of the magazine is pretty bad since the front page of the magazine has 2+ day old submissions.

I'm working on a bit of a project for kbin, and I want to make a logo for it that's inspired by kbin's, but I can't figure out what font the logo uses. Any help would be appreciated!

edit: Axiforma Bold looks pretty similar, but not exactly the same, I think I might use that.

Bonus question: How do you collapse comments? Some threads are busy and hard to navigate without this.

As title suggested. CW culture is super prevalent on Mastodon and the Keys, so I'm wondering if that is even a possibility?

I guess being a "message board" service automatically gives KBin/Lemmy some way to avoid reading nasty content, but maybe having a filter to block/blur included text/image/videos unless you click it open or something would be nice. Like if you accidentally find a "surprise" on the random sidebar...

Maybe it would be a nice superset to the current +18/NSFW I guess? For example if someone really doesn't want to see a spider and someone else posts a cute picture of one (which is obviously not NSFW but... yeah).

Maybe the idea is too stupid of me. Or if this is already in the works then wonderful!

I saw that the test instances have some nice new features that are not still released for kbin.social.

So I was thinking that it'd be nice to know when things are being updated here and what have changed.
Is there any place I can see this?

kbin is still missing alot of things, and its not easy to figure things out. Still havnt figure out how to post under a specific forum.
In order to block a forum, you have to click it first instead of having that option under "more".

There also seems to be missing a list for words to filter.

Why is is that magazine icons are only displayed in the ratio of 6:5? Anything outside of that ratio gets awkwardly cropped out.
