Anyone know, when setting up a #kbin magazine, if there is a delay for #fediverse posts to puplate in to the Microblog section? I've setup the hashtags, but don't see anything coming in. ?

Is anyone else getting logged out when they close their browser tab?

I'm using Firefox on mobil. I like to keep my tabs clean in my mobile browser and every time I close my kbin tab, as of this morning, it makes me log back in.

This hasn't been an issue at all for the last month.

I also can't seem to access kbinMeta/newest without getting an error! So I hope this isn't a duplicate post

I have an account on lemmy.sdf.org and I am subscribed to a magazine here on kbin.social (m/mma)

however, federation of posts and comments is extremely flaky or non-existent and I'm not sure if the issue is on the kbin side, the lemmy side, or both?

anyone have some insight into where this breakdown might be occurring?

for example, here are some screenshots of m/mma on kbin and lemmy

notice how most kbin content has not federated over to the lemmy side on lemmy.sdf.org

I also tried to comment on a kbin post from lemmy and as of 15 minutes later the comment has not appeared on the kbin thread

kbin sorted by 'new'
kbin

lemmy sorted by 'new' (notice how lemmy is missing most threads and also missing most comments from the Jamahal Hill thread)
lemmy

EDIT: I should mention that lemmy.sdf.org appears to be on 0.18.2 so they are pretty good at keeping it up-to-date

I just got logged out. Logged back in, and found a freshly-upgraded magazine search. Sick!

Some instances and groups are very chatty (*gestures to /lemmyshitposts), so much so that they dominate the All page.

I knew that there would be a point that browsing /all would no longer be a pleasant or feasible experience, but I quite liked having a pulse on what everyone in the #threadiverse (that kbin.social federates to, anyway) are thinking. But right now it seems @memes is dominating everything.

I don't want to fully block them from showing up in my feed, but i don't want to let them full send either. Would it be feasible to add a feature in future releases to be able to adjust the algorhythm on the user-side that would allow for mutes, or deranking it in your feed, instead of outright blocking it?

If you ever have the problem of forgetting you were writing something and closing a window, or accidentally navigating away from the page on which you are composing, this is the browser extension to save your ass: Form History Control.

In kbin I especially have this problem as I get logged out constantly for some reason, for example while I am composing even a fairly short comment, and if I submit while logged out the text vanishes. But everything is stored in the extension. It is local to your machine where it will be secure.

I am using it for a year or two now and it has been flawless. It doesn't cause any slowdown in browser performance. It is unnoticeable until that moment you need it.

Does the option to add an image via URL not work? I have tried in both Brave and Firefox desktop browsers and the Brave mobile app - clicking the "From URL" or "Upload File" doesn't appear to do anything.

The only thing that does anything from this menu is clicking the filepath to upload a file from local.

Am I missing something?

It's only here in /m/kbinMeta. Everywhere else seems to work fine, but here I can't sort by new.

I've really been enjoying the "microblogs" section of some magazines because they aggregate content from Mastodon etc.

Is there a way we can follow entire hashtags from within kbin, without inputting them into a magazine?

460

I didn't write it, but it seems good

The name kbin is derived from sbin in Linux (source is a comment by @ernest). Is the logo at all related to sbin? It kind of looks like a forward slash.

I tried searching but turned up nothing. Sorry if this has been answered already.

Each thread shows a Thread widget. In it is a Ratio field. What is this ratio measuring?

Since on most fediverse instances you don't automatically upvote your own comment, do you do it manually? What's considered "proper etiquette"? Because on Reddit your stuff is self-upvoted automatically, while in YT comment sections comments with 1 like sometimes get called out for liking their own comment. Do we have an established standard here yet, and if not what are your thoughts on it?

Tried to delete my kbin.social account > an hour ago. Got the confirmation "Your request to delete the account has been submitted.".

I'm still logged in.

So I subscribed to this magazine/community a few weeks back and yet no posts or content seem to be getting fed to my Lemmy instance. Is it required to post something on my end for the 'connection' to work, or should it be feeding automatically? Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue in either direction.

Is anyone else unable to view /m/kbinmeta/newest? It's throwing me the "We are working on resolving the issues" error. Not sure if it's related to the stability issues I've been seeing today or not. But I can view /newest in other magazines just fine, though.

I find it a little creepy...being followed, you know. I've never been a Twitter /Insta or whatever user and on Reddit I had it disabled.

P. S. No offense to my followers reading this. Cheers guys!

A couple of weeks ago, @shazbot made this post about a project that they were working on. Since then, @shazbot, @ori, @minnieo and I have been hard at work, and we are excited to finally announce the official release of kbin Enhancement Suite (KES)!

kbin has seen an explosion of user-made add-ons, but keeping track of them in one place, letting them share settings with one another, and toggling them on and off can be a challenge. KES is an expandable add-on manager that aims to rectify this by providing a unified interface and framework for script makers to collaborate, and letting you use them all in one place.

KES brings together userscripts from the community, with a built-in settings menu that lets you tailor your experience to your liking. It also offers a flexible framework that empowers script authors to effortlessly integrate scripts into KES and set up custom input fields with no additional code.

KES gives you a single window onto a collection of enhancements that is growing by the day. And those features can be added to by you!

Features

We’ve focused on making customizing your kbin experience as easy as possible, whether you are on mobile or desktop. After we sort out the bug reports from this release, we plan on adding many more features! Here’s what we have so far:

  • Collapsible comments with nesting (by @artillect)
  • Use slash commands to add emoticons in text areas (by @minnieo)
  • Add syntax highlighting (with customizable themes) to code blocks (by @ori)
  • Show instance names next to non-local users and communities (by @artillect)
  • Add a link to message users on your instance next to their usernames (by @shazbot)
  • Hide upvote/downvote buttons and reputation (by @artillect)
  • Show more detailed timestamps on threads and comments (by @shazbot)
  • Hide thumbnails on threads (by @shazbot)
  • Add link to subscribed magazines to the navbar (by @shazbot)
  • Replace or hide the kbin logo in the navbar (by @shazbot)
  • Add “OP” label next to thread author’s username in comments (by @shazbot)
  • Convert navigation links on profile pages into a dropdown (by @shazbot)

Each of these can be toggled in the settings menu, and some of them have additional configuration options, such as setting custom labels, colors, etc.

New features are added on a rolling basis and the menu pages will update on the fly to reflect this new content.

Installation

Click here to install KES, and follow your userscript manager’s prompt to complete the installation.

If you don’t have a userscript management extension, you can install one of these, and then install KES using the link above:

Once KES is successfully installed, access the settings menu by clicking on the wrench icon located at the top-right corner next to your username. From there, you can enable the features you like, and customize your browsing experience.

More information

For bug reports and feature requests, visit our GitHub repository’s issues page. If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to ask here or make a post on /m/enhancement!

Developers

If you are a userscript author, we’d love it if you could try porting your userscripts into KES, or try writing completely new ones for it! @shazbot has made it easy to integrate your scripts: you just need to add your script’s information to manifest.json, make a few small modifications to your script, add it all to the GitHub repository, and you’re good to go!

KES benefits:

  • Turnkey integration: a simple, declarative framework for dynamically adding features to the UI without touching the underlying code
  • Sharing of user-defined settings through script namespaces: access your script settings, and those from other scripts, through a well-defined object
  • Automatically responds to infinite scroll and page reload events
  • Attribution of script authors
  • Easily toggle scripts on/off

Explore KES’s documentation here to get started. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out here, on /m/enhancement, or at our GitHub repository.

Is it just me or does the Lemmy community actively ignoring the existence of kbin? I see a lot of posts explicitly mentioning Lemmy users but only posts from kbinners mention both platforms.

Kbin keeps throwing me errors when i upvote, click, or boost a Lemmy post. Ideas on how to fix?

There's a new bot on lemmy.ml I want to follow, but it looks like none of its posts show up. Is this intended behavior that you don't want foreign bots to have posts show up? or a bug in how bots are handled?

I was pointed out by the bot creator of this codeberg issue already made 3 weeks ago, but I don't see comments about it.

Hey all, I just recently joined Kbin and I'm not sure if there's a way to see a list of just the magazines I've subscribed to without having to go through the list of all of the magazines.
