Continuing from my last post here I opened my magazine on kbin instead of blahaj.zone but now I realise I never had the option to lock it so that only I could post to it like I did on blahaj, is that something I can do or is that what I'll have to sacrifice to have my preferred UI? In which case I'm really torn.

This is my first experience with any sort of modding so bare with me lol

I logged into Kbin today to see 18 notifications where the same guy banned me from all of their magazines for downvoting them.

I was only subscribed to 1 of those magazines, but it's still annoying to wake up to 18 ban messages from someone who got easily angered from a downvote.

(Side note: IMO, this is why being able to see downvotes is bad. Even if anyone could see them by spinning up their own instance, that's a lot of work compared to pressing 2 buttons.)

I've blocked the guy, but is there anything that can be done to stop this from proliferating across the site?

Example post

Weird formatting issue between Lemmy and kbin, as you can see in the images, it is rendered incorrectly and shows as a code block of what I think is HTML.

I am on readit.buzz (kbin) and the post is from lemm.ee (Lemmy)

Secure a place in history. Create the source material for hundreds of journalists, bloggers and shitposters writing about the downfall of reddit and the rise of the threadiverse. (also missing!)

At some point, there will be some sort of drama involving kbin. It could be constructive drama or not; who knows.

When it happens, whatever it is, lots of people will direct themselves to wikipedia to learn about what this website is. We all know wikipedia can be very influential. Even in the absence of drama.

On the Magazines tab you can filter by subscriptions. It then shows all the posts to the subscribed magazines. Is it possible just to see the name of the Magazine to which I'm subscribed?

I know you can see the subscription status on the unfiltered initial page. Given there are currently 105 pages, I'd have to page through all of them to find my subscriptions.

Decided to start my own "sub" and since I like what the blahaj.zone instance is about I did it there, but im actually really hating the lemmy UI.
Can I open my magazine on kbin instead and move the content I already put on blahaj across, or do I need to start over?

I've got a lemmy account elsewhere in the fediverse, and I have found this tool for finding instances and communities: https://lemmyverse.net/

I only just discovered though that it doesn't work with any kbin sites, it just doesn't list them at all. Is there any good way to browse different kbin magazines like this?

Ideally I want to be able to easily search by keyword and by instance. I love that this part of the fediverse is expanding, it just seems to me that it needs a good content discovery method.

I did some further testing of federation issues, and have discovered that Kbin (at least Fedia) magazine articles don't federate to remote instances unless they are interacted with on the host instance.

YSK: If you own a magazine on Kbin, make a point of interacting with everything (just an upvote is fine) to ensure it gets pushed out and seen, at least until this is fixed.

(that includes this article, can't see it from Lemmy until it gets interacted with on kbin.social!)

Every time I try to upvote or boost something, there's a solid 20% chance it'll link to an Error page titled "Log in". That percentage seems to increase the longer I've had my Kbin tab open without refreshing it.

Even more annoyingly, it regularily logs me off completely, forcing me to input my information again. It's especially annoying on mobile since it won't even remember my password for some reason, which was randomly generated, meaning it's a pain to re-enter it every time.

The effect is that it's making me interact with Kbin less and less, I end up just scrolling without upvoting or commenting or anything, and ultimately I also just use the site less overall.

I like it here otherwise, but this one bug is making Kbin a real chore to use, and I know a lot more people have been experiencing it for a while now.

There's currently a spam "buy adderall" post on /m/fediverse that's been up for 16 hours now. The magazine has no moderators other than Ernest.

I also remember hearing at some point that kbin.social was being run by some other admins so that Ernest could focus on code, but I don't know who they are. Does anyone else know who we should be pinging for issues like this?

One additional question, is there an issue tracker for problems/requests that are specific to kbin.social, rather than the kbin codebase? It doesn't make sense to fill up the issue tracker on codeberg with "this magazine needs moderators" requests and the like, but we do need somewhere to keep track.

Is there a way to only see followed users in the Microblog section?

362

196 is over half my feed and I can't take it anymore.

How is it running a kbin mag? How much time and headache? Is it worth it? Why do you it? Do you recommend doing it?

364

I recall reading before that account deletions are not automated and need to be requested by the user via account settings?

Also, if an owner of a magazine was to delete their account, who does that ownership get transferred to?

So, to explain in more detail: I read about a new community on newcommunities and I decided to search for it so that it started federating with Kbin.

However, when I visit the community on lemmy.world, there are already 32 posts from before the community became visible on kbin, but I can only see the posts that were made after I "discovered" the community on Kbin.

Can we customize the magazines shown in the top bar somehow? Or make it just show ones we're subscribed to or....? Thanks!

How are Lemmy instances able to even see microblog posts ? Afaik Lemmy doesn't have microblogging feature , interaction between Lemmy and more microblog oriented parts of the fediverse should be more limited right ? Unless it was something they recently added , or a 3rd party app that adds it ig ?

cross-posted from: https://fedia.io/m/fedia/t/143235 Posting here as it might be a Kbin problem rather than specific to Fedia.

Nothing posted from Lemmy to a Fedia magazine is federating out to that magazine/community on other Lemmy instances. I don't think it is working for kbin either.

eg. https://fedia.io/m/ukdtt/t/143141/DTT-licence-updates-26-Jul-2023 - posted from feddit.uk to a fedia.io magazine (and has successfully reached the home instance), has not turned up on https://rabbitea.rs/c/ukdtt@fedia.io

Checking other magazines I don't think this is working properly for any of them, but don't know if it is just fedia or a wider kbin problem.

Anyone else seen similar?

I have set to hide NSFW content. Still get random posts and images suggested with NSFW imagery on the sidebar. Or user account images too. I only subscribed to magazines that do not have NSFW content.

I've been encountering a bug when I try to follow certain users from mastodon instances. I'll click the follow button, but get no response. Following other users on the same instance works fine.

I'm curious to figure out if this is a Kbin bug, or if there's a user account setting in Mastodon that they have in place that defederates the account and prevents it from being followed.

I'm also curious if our "Federation Status" switch in our profile prevents us from being followed in the same way (would love more detail on this function).

Tagging @ernest in case this is a bug. Thanks in advance for any insight.

It doesn't seem like Kbin is aware of pinned posts on other communities. Is this a feature that can be added?
