Artemis, the app, is soon going to be my go-to app for Kbin, so I want to ask whether it's possible to somehow login into Kbin without going through the Google layer? Since I've logged in through Google already. I'd take disconnecting the accounts too.

I was having trouble posting - I could comment but if I tried to post, it would always send me to the error page and the post would show up on my profile, but not on the mag I was trying to post it to. I renewed my IP address and that seems to have fixed the problem. Just sharing this if anyone else has the same issue, it might help.

EDIT: It's now no longer working and ip renewal doesn't fix it this time. RIP

I’m not sure if this is a known issue or not, and not sure where to check if it is.

I use kbin to post to communities on beehaw and lemmy. One post, in a gaming community on beehaw, had a moderator come in a lock comments. Only…they weren’t showing as a moderator of the community on the page in kbin, and I was still seeing options to reply to all comments. I replied to the moderator as a test, and it was still possible to comment….kind of. My reply showed up on kbin, but it wasn’t on beehaw. That seems less than ideal when it comes to moderating.

The post in question on kbin:

Title is hopefully self-explanatory. During the early growth, there were a number of examples of users setting up magazines based on popular Reddit subs but then losing their initial enthusiasm for kbin.

I'm an active user of one such sub, which has taken off in the last few weeks after a slow start, but where the only mod hasn't been seen in over a month. How do we either replace them or get additional mods added, when there's no way to get in contact with them in the first place?

I see that there is a messages link in the drop down menu associated with my username. But when I go there I don't see how to send a message. I'm sure this is pretty basic stuff, it's just that I'm suffering from PTSD from being a reddifugee and can't seem to figure it out on my own. TIA! Much appreciation!

I saw that CSS and JS are supported, but something simple like

.entry.section.subject:hover {
  background: azure;
}

and

console.log("hello");

don't work for me and there's no documentation, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I'm having to post this from my lemmy account because my kbin account has been rendered useless. This only just started happening.

Is there a known way to fix what I'm assuming is a bug I'm having with federation?

When I use the side bar icon for federation it's set to off. When I select to turn it on the page reloads and I'm presented with the general settings options.

My feed is still not federated.

I've tried on duckduckgo and Firefox on mobile and Firefox on my mac. Haven't tried on the pwa because it's a slow and crashing mess for me.

Anyone out there have any idea how I can fix this and get the full federation experience with my kbin account?

So this has happened on a couple of my posts, but when I saw it affecting @gabe's recent intro post, I thought I'd call it out here.

Here's a screenshot - first image is of how the post looks when you're not logged in, the second is with login:

https://imgur.com/a/lRMP9yf

You can see even though there's two comments listed as being present on the 2nd shot, no comments appear.

So to determine whether this was client side or server side, I tested it out on multiple browsers and got the same result, indicating it's not a client side issue, and it's not related to my kbin extension scripts on Firefox. I can't find any settings within my profile that would affect this (if there's one I'm missing, please let me know).

For reference, here are the two of my posts that I'm finding the same behavior on:

https://kbin.social/m/13thFloor/t/332463/Untitled-by-at-Aphelion-at-mastodon-sdf-org

https://kbin.social/m/13thFloor/t/329335/Untitled-by-at-literarypug-at-mastodon-world

Thanks in advance for your help - I'd like to be able to both promote content and leave a review at the same time, but this bug is making it difficult. Note that this only appears to affect Threads, not Links at the moment.

EDIT: appears to affect Pictures as well, and is currently occurring on this post below. Gonna add @ernest so he has a heads up.

Additional testing shows that it's only affecting newer posts - posts older than two days ago don't appear to be replicating the behavior.

I moderate the men magazine, and we get spammed with gay porn in the sidebar, which is often not labeled as NSFW. (I have nothing against gays or porn, but it is not appropriate for a serious discussion community.) I have tried to hide those sections thru the magazine CSS, but it does not seem to work.

Any help here? Or is this not possible at the magazine level?

I might not know what I'm talking about, but if they were cached on my browser I'd see them load instantly after loading once, right? But they take a bit to load each time when viewed on opera mobile.
Seems like a good way to reduce server costs?

So, I've been using mastodon a long time, several years in fact, and I never really understood all the folks complaining that it was too complicated; I mean, it was just always intuitive to me. Now maybe that's because I never really did the tweeter.

What I have done is a lot of reddit, and I gotta say, why the hell is this so complicated? :P

I'm only half kidding.

One thing that should always taken into consideration by software peeps is that when making a 'replacement' like this (dont tell me it's not a replacement for reddit, there's too much signal in the noise of this mag about 'reddit migration'), is that users that are relocating their operations will need extra handholding and assistance.

Unlike a lot of us, these peeps aren't casually learning how to do a new cool thing, they're typically perceiving some real and or imagined (Hey, both can cause a lot of stress and anxiety!), they're fleeing something, and trying to settle into a new, safer place; or so they hope.

I may sound like I'm 'asking for a friend', and I am, but that friend is me :D

Please, we need some kind of FAQ that says 'this is the reddit thing you want to do' and 'here's how to do it on kbin'. We need the next section to say, 'You can do these things on reddit, and not on kbin' and one more section in the FAQ that says 'These are cool things kbin does that reddit doesn't'.

A HUGE ask would be user style sheets to make it look and act more or less like reddit; really, as far as I can tell, there's only really a couple of big differences. Hell, it might suffice if we just had a FAQ that pointed out the substantive differences.

The biggest problem is, y'all just kinda 'sprung' the whole microblog/People/Threads on us; those single word descriptors are really only useful if you're 'in the know' already.

I've been posting off and on at kbin now for several months, hoping I'd eventually just soak it up; but it hasn't happened. I still keep screwing some things up here and there; just yesterday I was off to the races posting about some things, and managed to editorialize a title when I thought I was using post body to introduce the link. It's been sent to the ether, now.

I'm not in desperation about anything. I'm not a 'migrator' or refugee, or any of that. I do have a couple projects on reddit I'd like to bring here, I think this is the future of social media, and I think I will get a higher quality engagement here. I also have some projects already here that I'd like to get supercharged, and I can't really do stuff until I know the ropes..

So yeah, it would be great if the devs would drop some smooth pdfs or single page html or damn just if they'd 'own' a markdown document that could be loaded off any kbin page or something, that would be bad ass.

In the absence of that though (or something like it) what do y'all have out there, in userland?

Thanks for readin' muh screed.

One thing I really liked reddit for was reading news and talking about it. I have stopped posting or commenting there now and am in the process of slowly wiping my posting history... but I still browse it for current events a decent bit as it's just a lot more active than over here.

I think my new goal is that whenever I see a news post over there I would really like to comment about, I'm gonna post it over here in a relevant magazine and start a comment in that new Kbin thread instead. Seems like a really easy way to nudge myself into getting more content going over here.

Just kind of a Kbin meta shower thought I guess. Cheers.

This user runs this magazine which is entirely dedicated to transphobia under the guise of anti-misogyny (usual TERF bullshit).

They came to spread hate on my magazine the first trans supportive post I made, and looks from my "most active users" that they never stopped despite being banned.

Them ghost commenting on my stuff doesn't bother me as long as others don't see it, but this person is clearly dedicated to the sole purpose of spreading anti trans hate, and im wondering why they're still allowed a place on this platform? I don't doubt they've been reported multiple times.

I get "block people you don't like and move on", which I generally do, but this is several levels beyond that, it isn't a personal disagreement, it's outright and intentional spreading of bigotry which I don't believe has a place here.

So how do kbin deal with issues like this?

Ernest said this was coming last Monday? Has there been any updates yet? I haven't seen any announcements and I'm wondering if it's actually already here and I just haven't realized it?

KbinFAQ somewhere? What are threads, microblogs etc?

how can a community on #lemmy be followed,that does not appear in search results of magazines on #kbin ?

Kbin hasnt federated Rule34 on LemmyNSFW in over 3 weeks

It appears you can't tag a post in a magazine with hashtag the same as the magazine name however this prevents those posts showing up on a search for that hashtag. Is this intentional?

321

Any time I click on my notifications, I get directed to an Error 50x page that says:

We are working on resolving the issues

Over the next few days, there will be a change in server infrastructure. Temporary problems with the website's functionality may occur during this time.

It's been over a week and still nothing...also haven't seen any posts about notifications being down, so is it just me?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there a way to know if kbin is or is not federated with another instance? I know there is a way to block domains by typing in https://your kbin instance/d/domain you want to block and blocking them from there, but is there a way to see a list of instances defederated by default?

Thanks

Right now the instance I'm on throws 500 errors almost daily (this is why I'm posting from my Lemmy account), so I think it's time to find a new home.

Not looking for much, English language, NSFW allowed (most of our posts won't be, but I'd prefer to have the option) and Federates with lemmy.ml and beehaw as I find m'self posting to groups over there frequently. And of course good uptime/low 500 errors.

I'm looking at a few instances now, but recommendations would obviously help me choose since many don't have their About page filled out, and fewer still have an FAQ or TOS.

324

Although uptime/status pages are instance-specific, it would be beneficial to have an uptime/status page so users can be informed of any technical issues or server outages more easily.

Is there any chance that we can get a weekly/biweekly, or periodic, update on what is new with kbin? @ernest has done a couple in the past. I doubt I would be the only one interested in hearing what is new or what is coming down the pipe more on a regular basis.

I'm aware that I can look at the codeberg and see what is being worked on, but I'm not quite as dev saavy as a lot of you are and really appreciate some plain spoken explainers sometimes.

If not, that's cool too. I just thought it might help keep people involved and retain users if we could see a list of exciting new additions, updates, and things to look forward to.
