Like a lot of new arrivals, I'm eager to do a 'hello world' sort of post, to see if all is well. So here's mine.

Don't want to be breaking etiquette right off the bat though, so am curious if there's a preferred spot for pointless posts like that.
Oh - I suppose I've just made my post less pointless.

Also - mentioning myself to see if that shows up through fediverse magic - I'm @ottaross as well.

I was just prompted that a PWA was available for kbin. I now have it installed, really great to see this. IMO it is a great stopgap until native apps are available.

I think most companies today are too much profit driven and less of user experience. Steven has now gone full Elon, whose move was condemned by the entire Reddit of API change. Even after the backlash of twitter on its several decisions, Reddit didn't learn and went with the same Elon theme of profitability and killing first the browser and now the third party experience. Now, Kbin should be our only choice and so to say that still mass migration can happen like in the past, we've with Digg and Myspace. We should try to make Kbin as user-friendly and more according to user demand. If in any way I can help, pls let me know.

I'm sorry to post this here, this might be the wrong place so please redirect me to a more appropriate magazine.

On Reddit (LinkedIn is even worse if I'm being honest) you would constantly see screenshot of tweets but never a link to the tweet themselves.

kbin would probably save a lot of bandwidth doing this, and it'd make the experience much more pleasant for those who want to follow the object of the screenshot's discussion.

How to subscribe to magazines on a different instance.

Another user posted this in a thread with his blessing I am sharing it as it helps for people new to the fediverse

You go and browse the instance you want first. You don't have to create an account there, you can view everything, just can't post of comment without an account obviously.

Then, you look at the name of the community you want, in the form of /!something/ or it could be /@lemmy.world/ too.

You come back to kbin and type or paste that into the search bar without the exclamation mark but with an @ sign instead. so /!something/ sould be typed as /@something/ into kbin's search bar. The option to subscribe will appear in the search result.

You can use the same technique on mastodon to subscribe to kbin and lemmy accounts (and communities because technically they are accounts too). Just type or paste the /@something/ into the mastodon search bar.
