Is there a plugin for being able to rate or thumbs up/down items?

I'm wondering, is there some way to tell Jellyfin to just transcode or reencode all my media for a particular client? And have that stored and used? I'm just thinking that each clients have different support and it's not always possible to get all the stars aligned, but jellyfin knows when a transcode is needed based on the client profile.

I guess I can do with hand break or something, but yeah... Any thoughts? Thanks.

Has anybody found a way of turning off Subtitles by default? I've changed them in all the settings I can see, but everytime, if there are subtitles, they are shown. It's pretty annoying

Hi guys! I'd like to check which TV shows literally nobody watches ever, to see if it would be worthy cleaning up some space. Most of the reporting is based on what's watched the most, or which users are watching what, or times of the day...how can I query what is the less watched? I'd like by whole TV show series as a whole, not by specific episodes, if that was possible...

Thanks!

Hi,

there is an Issue in the jellyfin project that's bothering me and I'm pretty sure I know where to look for to fix it.

The problem is that I can't reproduce the bug locally, so I'd like to debug my production jellyfin instance that's running as a docker container (or duplicate it for testing).

Is that doable? If yes, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this? If not, what would be the best approach?

I know C# and how to debug in general, I just never had to do much remote debugging, let alone something involving docker.

Hi all, I'm interested to make the jump over to jellyfin, but am wondering if theres a way to automate collections and playlists?

Thanks!

Wondering if anyone has a solution to subtitles (SRT) going out of sync for some movies when they are resumed and not stated from the beginning.

Do you think I need to run something to re-sync the sub file? It's not all movies.

Thanks

As the title says, can I do this? I have a big playlist that I'd like to be able to share with my wife's account. She has access to the music library, but I can't see any option to share playlists across accounts or export the. Is there such an option?

I have only used Plex very briefly before I moved to try Emby then Jellyfin. Granted I am not a heavy user of a media server - basically no one else in my household uses it, and I don’t have a lot of content, but I do use sonarr / radarr with it.

The moment Plex put me off was when I realized a Plex Pass was needed to add transcoding capability. What are some of the reasons people like Plex better than Jellyfin, other than those who have been using Plex forever and are just too lazy to explore other options?

I'm after a remote for JMP that is just a remote. No local playback or streaming, no fancy extras, just a remote with some directional buttons, keyboard input, that sort of thing. Somethign akin to what Kore is to Kodi.

Does such a remote exist?

Hi, on the Server>Libraries>Metadata Tab I can select the default preferred metadata language. It also says that "These are your defaults and can be customized on a per-library basis."

But where do I actually find these settings? Is it the "Preferred download language:" dropdown when editing a library? Nothing there says it's related to metadata

I'm having trouble connecting with the Android and iOS app. I use my IP and port to the server as well as the web address I have, but none allow me to connect. I'm able to access the server remotely from any web browser but the app isn't connecting.

I have reset the server and PC it's running on, everything is up to date. Running directly on the PC, not Docker.

Any ideas of what's going on? Willing to try anything to get it working.

Hi there!

So, last episode in the Reddit drama, theu are now threating to revoke the existing mod team and create a new one for subs participating in the blackout.

What will be Jellyfin code of conduct if that happens?

Thanks!

I'm currently using a https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-hc2-home-cloud-two/, which has this cpu: Samsung Exynos5422 Cortex-A15 2Ghz and Cortex-A7 Octa core CPUs.

It is obviously not enough for real time transcoding, which is ok because I do not want it. But getting subtitles out of files and other remuxing tasks are slow as well, I'd like some more power without building a full custom hptc.

Is an intel NUC worth it? Or is there any other significantly faster raspby-clone?

Howdy. Just chiming in as a happy Jellyfin user. I'm running multiple instances since my music library was significantly affecting my primary video instance, to the point of not letting Android TV clients load the home page properly.

I've since split out the music and am a happy camper. I briefly tried out Navidrome for music but wasn't happy without the ability to edit metadata from the UI (even if the Jellyfin metadata editing doesn't affect ID3 tags anyway). It may not be be FOSS, but Symfoniun is a fantastic Android music app that supports Jellyfin and DLNA casting.

Hi, I am looking to make my first dedicated jellyfin server rather than running it on my desktop, but don't know what gpu to get. I will have only a few users and want to avoid Nvidia because I will be on linux + foss drivers. Any recommendations?

This post is a lament about how episode names and file-name conventions interact to result in horrible sorting of tv-show filenames in the filesystem.

The Jellyfin TV Show docs show a preferred filename format like Episode S00E01.mkv. The docs aren't really clear about what the string Episode is supposed to represent here, though. Is that the show name, the episode name, or something else?

  • The example in the multi-part episode docs gives us a hint a hint that it's really intended to be the series name like Series (2010) S02E01<separator><parttype><separator><partnumber>.mkv.
  • The tests in the source code make this even clearer with examples like the_simpsons-s02e01_18536.mp4 and the.series.name.s01e04.webrip.x264-Baz[Bar].mkv. Plus the variable is called SeriesName in the tests.

Interestingly, that string shows up in the episode name in the Jellyfin UI if your series isn't in tvdb. So it can be very useful to set episode-names. But if you do this, the filesystem sort order gets pretty miserable, like:

$ ls 'my show (2023)/'
'bar - S01E02.mp4'
'baz but this episode name is longer - S01E03.mp4'
'episode foo - S01E01.mp4'

If there are 10 or more episodes, and the episode names vary in length so the season/episode strings don't line up vertically, it's very difficult to read the episode order. It would be so nice if S01E01 My Episode Name.mkv was supported. And this is even nodded to in the tests, but commented out as it apparently does work. And in this case the show name is pulled from the directory and the episode is ignored.

I guess maybe this is lamenting the lack of proper episode name support in tv show filenames. Though abusing the current SeriesName works... it makes the filesystem sorting gross.

Just wanted to pop in and say hello. 👋

I'll be hanging around now that Reddit is on a downward path, and will be sure to share Roku client updates here.

FYI, I sent a link to this community to the other developers.

So I was able to install everything correctly, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do in order for people that don't have my same IP to see my files. I'd like to share my Jellyfin server with some friends so they can see movies there. I've already open the ports, but they can't still access them, I'm using elementaryOS Hera which is built on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.
