Israeli forces deliberately targeted the Hassouna family, including 14-year-old Lina, 13-year-old Yousef, 10-year-old Yasmine, six-year-old Alaa, and their parents, Amer and Nida, in Gaza City on the morning of March 23, 2024, according to documentation collected by Defense for Children International - Palestine. Israeli forces shot Amer and Nida in front of their children then besieged the building where they hid. The children hid for two days without food or water and watched stray dogs eat parts of their parents' bodies until their uncles rescued them.

Born on January 15, 1968, Fathi al-Najjar was abducted in 2002 at age 34 for resisting the occupiers. He was sentenced to 30 years. Over the years, he endured grueling interrogations, beatings, and solitary confinement.

Fathi, father of 7 children endures excruciating pain—abdominal agony, rectal bleeding, and blood in his urine. Despite his dire condition, zionist prison administration refuses to conduct necessary tests or provide treatment. They are sentencing him to prolonged suffering.

In addition, Fathi struggles with vision problems and knee ligament issues. Despite undergoing several surgeries, including one for a hernia, the prison administration continues to neglect his health, subjecting him to what can only be described as a slow death.

In the central variant, life expectancy in the Gaza Strip decreased by 34·9 years during the first 12 months of the war, about half (–46·3%) the prewar level of 75·5 years

Our approach to estimating life expectancy losses in this study is conservative as it ignores the indirect effect of the war on mortality. Even ignoring this indirect effect, results show that the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip generated a life expectancy loss of more than 30 years during the first 12 months of the war, nearly halving prewar levels. Actual losses are likely to be higher.
