It was an amazing show. Tim Hunkin is still around and making Youtube videos. Sadly Rex is no longer with us.

The Batman Family has returned to present-day Gotham City after traveling back to the warring states period and saving history from being altered in the previous film, Batman Ninja. The next day, they witness a startling event – the Japanese island has disappeared, and a giant island called “Hinomoto” appears in the sky over Gotham City. Soon, countless Yakuza descend from the sky and attack the people of Gotham City. And, the Justice League has disappeared. Detecting a strange energy reaction in the sky, Batman heads for Hinomoto to find its underlying cause. There, the Dark Knight finds a world where the Yakuza war with each other, and brutality reigns without honor or humanity. At the top of the world is the Yakuza League, a group of superpowered individuals, who look suspiciously like the Justice League. The Yakuza League is invading Gotham and, to save the city, Batman and his allies are in for the fight of their lives!

The all-new feature film, featuring characters from DC and reimagined by Japan's finest artists, finds Batman and his friends battling familiar faces transformed into villains in an alternate universe in a desperate attempt to save Gotham.

The sequel is directed by Jumpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi from a screenplay by Kazuki Nakashima, with character design by Takashi Okazaki and music by Yugo Kanno. Produced by Warner Bros. Japan, the film's animation is provided by Kamikaze Douga.

The 4K Ultra HD of David Fincher's Panic Room arrives today. And while reviews by and large are praising the stunning transfer and color grading (there's even a special feature devoted to just that), some are pointing out other changes that only someone like Fincher would even bother to "fix."

As Film Twitter has been quick to point out, David Fincher has made some interesting -- yet very Fincher-esque -- changes to Panic Room for this 4K release. The two that are garnering the most traction and head scratches involve curtains and Coke cans -- and you just know these have been bugging him for 20+ years!

As you can see, the original version of Panic Room has curtains that are a bit more casual, like pretty much any set you'd have in your home, whereas the 4K shows them more pressed and pristine (that is, very much how they would look in a modern Fincher movie). Other images go full product placement, with once-partly obscured Coca Cola labels now completely on display. And these are just two examples of what has been done to the Panic Room 4K; only more scouring will uncover Fincher's other changes.

Odd, sure. Unexpected? Hardly. David Fincher did similar things to the transfer of Seven, with those who have studied that transfer compared with the original theatrical version pointing out plenty of other examples of Fincher tweaking so-called imperfections, like a strand of Gwyneth Paltrow's hair or adding a door where there was once a curtain...This guy and his window treatments!

David Fincher is known to be a perfectionist and this Panic Room 4K is just the latest example. But he was pulling this sort of thing while filming, too, prompting a pretty amusing moment between the directors and his star. After one day of doing take after take after take, he asked star Jodie Foster which was best. Her response? "Honestly, you're a very sick man. There is nothing different between those last three takes." No word on if Foster has picked up her 4K of Panic Room...

In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg (Best Supporting Actor, The Departed, 2006) plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.

Hello everyone on Mbin, Lemmy and other parts of the Fediverse!

I have some family moments, (vacations, Christmases, birthdays, …) on VHS tape. I want to convert them in into modern, digital video files. I tried doing it with a GBS-C, but being French, those VHS are in SECAM, and neither GBS-Cs nor OSSC support thore formats. (At first it looked like I would only have the sound, but it ultimately killed my GBS-C.)

So, what do YOU use to preserve your old family memories in the modern, digital world? And does it support SECAM?

If I remember correctly, Smith, has obtained the rights for Dogma recently as they were held personally by Harvey Weinstein as opposed to Miramax. This is why once all the Dogma Blu-rays were sold out, there hasn't been any reprinting. Therefore, the Blu-ray goes for quite high prices on the second hand market.

I wonder if there will be any new retrospective documentaries if it gets a new release? There was a documentary called Judge Not: In Defence Of Dogma which was planned for the US special edition DVD but for legal reasons was not included.

That instead ended up on another US DVD for the film Vulgar, a black comedy written and directed by Kevin Smith's friend Bryan Johnson and staying Brian O'Halloran.

Although it can easily be found on YouTube.

Not sure if this is the best place to post, but I imagine plenty of ya'll rip your discs either for backup or media server purposes. So I'm curious what you have found to work best / most reliably for ripping 4k discs, and if you have any tips for getting stubborn discs to rip well.

Personally I have an LG WH16NS40 internal drive and an LG BP60NB10 external drive, both flashed with Libredrive to allow 4k ripping, using MakeMKV. Generally they work pretty well, but I will occasionally get a stubborn disc (often from the library, sometimes even new) that just refuses to fully rip on either drive.

Lemon pledge and a microfiber cloth, followed by a microfiber lens wipe, clean up most grubby used discs. But you can only do so much if the disc is physically damaged.

Crocodile Dundee | New 'Encore Cut' removes footage from original film

A 4K remastered 'Encore Cut' of Crocodile Dundee is being released this year -- but one or two moments have been edited out. More here.

In 2020, the most complained about movie to the British Board of Film Classification here in the UK was the re-issue of 1980's Flash Gordon. 91 people wrote to the board, protesting a simple note that was added to the start of the picture, letting people know the film contained "discriminatory stereotypes". Not a frame of footage of the film was touched, it's just 91 people felt advising people of something in the film was worthy of complaint.

I always thought the re-release of Flash Gordon was handled well. I'm not quite sure a planned re-release of Crocodile Dundee is going to go quite the same way.

The original movie was release in America in 1986, where it became a genuine sleeper hit, and the biggest film of the year. It made an international star of Paul Hogan, and spawned a couple of sequels too.

What's often overlooked though is that the cut of the film released outside of Australia was different to the one that originally debuted. Australian moviegoers got a slightly different, longer Crocodile Dundee. And now, they're getting a 4K remaster of the film in cinemas in 2025.

It's also a recut version of the movie, now known as the 'Encore Cut' of the film. However, rather than just opening up the movie with a warning about material that doesn't look too good through a modern lens, it's being reported that two and a half minutes has been snipped out of the film.

As per QNews, there is opening text, but also, material where Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee and meets a crossdresser has been edited out. It was never the best of jokes, and always a bit jarring, but I do wonder where it leads to start retroactively editing films to fit a modern lens. I'm not in the slightest defending the joke, and never liked it. But this is a very difficult road.

Production company Rimfire Films issued a statement ahead of the Encore Cut's debut noting that "some years ago, Paramount Pictures and other distributors requested the reference to the crossdresser be edited from the original film, as they found it offensive. We agreed to that request".

There's another joke on a similar theme later on in the movie that's said to have been excised, that's basically Mick Dundee groping someone.

Hogan has signed off on the changes to the film. Inevitably, someone has wheeled out the -- sigh -- word 'woke' and asked him about it (just wait until the Mail and Telegraph get hold of this story. I shudder).

Hogan's response is that people pointed out to him that "this guy is a folk hero around the world. He shouldn't be groping people. And I thought yeah that's right, he shouldn't be, so take it out. I mean, he did it in all innocence, in naivety, but it's better without it".

The plan is for Crocodile Dundee: The Encore Cut to debut in Australian cinemas on 8th May, complete with 4K remaster. There's also a documentary about the making of the film, with newly rediscovered materials telling the behind the scenes story of the movie. You can read a little bit more about that here.

No word yet on a British release for the Crocodile Dundee. Also, it should be noted that the original cut is still out there too, and isn't being deleted. It'd be interesting if we could see the actual original Australian cut too, before it was chopped for a US audience.

As far as the films that are selected to be a part of the collection, despite the "arthouse" or "snobby" accusations often lobbied at Criterion, the collection has a little bit of everything. An intimate, black and white micro-budget queer film like "Go Fish" exists alongside an exercise in depravity like "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom," Chantal Akerman's French masterpiece "Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles," and an explosive blockbuster like Michael Bay's "Armageddon." But Criterion doesn't have carte blanche to obtain any title it wants, including films it's previously released. Criterion is also at the mercy of the movie's rightsholders. For example, Criterion released John Woo's action classic "Hard Boiled" on DVD and it has been out of print for many years, but we likely won't see a re-release anytime soon as Shout! Factory recently obtained the rights to 156 films in the Golden Princess Library of Hong Kong cinema, including "Hard Boiled."

Following the worldwide hit "Paddington," one of the most successful family films of all time, this much-anticipated sequel finds Paddington (Ben Whishaw) happily settled with the Brown family in London, where he has become a popular member of the local community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes.

Reuniting many of the original film's cast while welcoming those in new roles, "Paddington 2" stars Golden Globe nominee Hugh Bonneville ("Downton Abbey"), Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins ("Blue Jasmine"), three-time Golden Globe nominee Brendan Gleeson ("The Guard," "Into the Storm," "In Bruges"), Oscar nominee Julie Walters ("Billy Elliot," "Educating Rita"), Oscar winner Jim Broadbent ("Iris"), and Oscar winner Peter Capaldi (short, "Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life"), with Golden Globe and BAFTA Award winner Hugh Grant ("Four Weddings and a Funeral"), and BAFTA winner Ben Whishaw ("The Hollow Crown") as the voice of Paddington. The starring ensemble also includes Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, and Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton ("Vera Drake") as the voice of Aunt Lucy.

The film was produced by multiple award-winning producer David Heyman (the "Harry Potter" films, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," Oscar nominee for "Gravity"). Serving as executive producers were Rosie Alison, Jeffrey Clifford, Alexandra Ferguson Derbyshire, Ron Halpern, and Didier Lupiter.

Paddington's return to the big screen was again helmed by BAFTA-nominated director Paul King ("Paddington," "Come Fly with Me," "The Mighty Boosh") from a script written by King and Simon Farnaby (Sky TV's "Yonderland," "Mindhorn"), based on the best-selling and internationally adored books by Michael Bond, creator of Paddington Bear.
