I stumbled upon a new zigbee solar rain sensor (different than the flower looking one) I'm thinking about purchasing just because.

Could be useful in letting me know when there is light rain 3-4 times a year where it won't show up on any weather apps.

What do you do to help your future self remember which code or line of code does what?

Currently I have a folder on my gaming PC where I do dev work with comments and all in my .yaml files. When everything is ready for prod I just send the file to my HA machine and let it do its thing.

Not sure if this is allowed here, feel free to remove if not. Otherwise if any good developers/hackers feel like taking this on.

Todo Swipe Card v3.0.0

Just released a complete rewrite of my Home Assistant todo card with some major improvements:

No more card-mod dependency - The card now includes native styling out of the box while still supporting full customization through 60 (!) CSS variables

🔍 New search functionality - Type to search through your todo items or quickly add new ones with Enter

Features ⭐️

  • Swipe between multiple todo lists with smooth animations
  • Built-in styling with customizable options through themes and card mod
  • Pagination dots for visual navigation
  • Configurable spacing between cards
  • Options to show or hide completed items
  • Delete completed items button with optional confirmation dialog
  • Search items through your list
  • Add icons on each list
  • Background image support for individual lists
  • Full visual editor support
  • Mobile-friendly touch and mouse navigation
  • Extensive customization through 60 CSS variables

Demo 🎬

Example 1

Configuration Example 🗒️

You can configure the card using the visual editor or with YAML:

type: custom:todo-swipe-card
show_pagination: false
show_addbutton: true
show_create: true
show_completed: true
show_completed_menu: true
enable_search: true
delete_confirmation: true
card_spacing: 10
entities:
  - todo.albert_heijn
  - todo.jumbo
  - todo.ikea
  - todo.hornbach
  - todo.action
background_images:
  todo.albert_heijn: /local/images/background_image/albert_heijn.png
  todo.jumbo: /local/images/background_image/jumbo.png
  todo.ikea: /local/images/background_image/ikea.png
  todo.hornbach: /local/images/background_image/hornbach.png
  todo.action: /local/images/background_image/action.png

Visual Editor 🛠️

The card includes a comprehensive visual editor that allows you to add or remove todo lists, configure display options, set background images for individual lists, and adjust spacing without writing any YAML code.

You can show and hide several elements in the card such as the text input field, add button and the delete button. With these options it is possible to use this card as a 'read-only' task list which only shows tasks and the possibility to mark them as completed.

Customization Examples 🎨

The card supports extensive theming through 60 custom CSS variables. Here is an example of a customized colored list with title and icon:

Example 2

Installation & More Information ℹ️

All installation instructions, configuration details, and customization options are available in the GitHub repository:

I look forward to seeing how you integrate this card into your Home Assistant dashboards. If you have feedback or encounter any issues, please feel free to reach out through the GitHub repository.

Hey r/homeassistant!

I just wanted to share my experience setting up my first automation. I recently bought an AirThings air quality monitor to track CO2 and VOCs in my home. I found out that CO2 spikes once my wife and I get home, and eventually approaches 1200ppm in the middle of the night.

This had me worried. I started pricing ERVs to supply my home with fresh air (they're really expensive). I even bought a fan that sits sealed in my window frame to help out, but we all know how hot it is outside.

I had a eureka moment, integrated the AirThings into my homeassistant, then realized I could set up an automation to trigger my microwave's vent fan!

Basically, when CO2 rises above 800ppm, the fan activates on low speed. I created a second to turn it back off when ppm falls below 600 for at least ten minutes.

What are some of your most useful automations you've added to your HomeAssistant setup?

Just sharing my personal experience and opinion.

5 to 4 years ago I bought a few Shelly PM1s and installed 5. As of today, the last one failed. I'd say the others failed within 3-4 years. They were a pain to put in and pain to take out. I know Shelly has moved on in 5 years, but I'd think a bit before installing a bunch of these.

I still have 4 PM1's, a 2.5 and a Shelly Blue which I've never used, older models I know, but I'll never use these. Your mileage may vary.

Just got the email from Google saying they are raising their yearly prices again (now $100). I am now done with the Google camera setup. Slow to load when I need it. Most of the time they don't display when I want them to either. Not using in HA either. Looking to setup HA on my Unraid server and would like to find a good solution to stream cameras and hopefully use Unraid as storage for video recording as well. Is this possible and which cameras are the goto for reliability, flexibility and compatibility?

Just wanted to let you know that recently a github project has managed to integrate Home connect locally.

https://github.com/chris-mc1/homeconnect_local_hass

So far it has been working great! (I have just tried three days .. until i started major renovations at my apartment) but was working flawlessly.

Looking to get out of the "send me a notification" trap because i've got notifications coming out of my ears at this point.

Here's my favorite so far:

This nightlight turns red at 100% brightness when the garage door is open, and resides next to the door to the garage so we don't accidentally let the dog out unsecured, then resumes whatever schedule it's on when the garage door is closed.

Just in case you miss it somewhere else: Smarthome company goes bankrupt, new owner ransoms everyone's house: $5000 bounty to crack firmware!

I am not the biggest fan of his communication approach but cannot disagree with anything he says. Seeing how "Stop killing games" gained momentum, it could be time to put an end to forced subscriptions on bought hardware.

I just saw an ad for the InvisOutlet pro. I am building out an HA build and need voc and humidity detection in the bathrooms and kitchen. A 3 pack is $249, which is $83 a pop.

Is it worth that for a single deployment of a temp/hum/smart outlets/nightlight/presence senor?

The big things for me are automating the fans based on humidity and VOC levels. Automating the bath lights, the nightlight is a nice bonus as these rooms don't have windows.

Has anyone used these do you like them, do they integrate into HA well?

Post just to raise awareness of BirdNET-pi and how easy it is to integrate into HA.

BirdNET is a 24/7 recording and identification of birdcalls in your area. You feed it an audio stream and it will identify what birds it hears and output the data in cool visualisations. If you already have security cameras with an audio stream you can simply pass that to BirdNet and it will do the rest.

It's the sort of thing that you don't really ever hear about, but is super cool IMO.

Anyone reading this that hasn’t started investing into smart sensors. Don’t wait, stop holding off on essential sensors

My home flooded while I was on vacation for two weeks and I’m absolutely kicking myself for not starting my Home Assistant // Smart Home Journey.

Now I can’t change the past, but I can look here if anyone here is willing to give me suggestions on any current iot devices with sensors they love or any recommendations on what companies and standards to go with that work well with HA.

I’m definitely getting some water leak sensors with audio. As I don’t have much I’m interested to hear what people have been having success with. -^
