My smart plug controlled my ERV, which worked flawlessly for a long time.

The last few nights the switch started turning on by itself, and not shutting off via automation.

While I was bouncing around troubleshooting I saw my power consumption chart. My ERV draws about 140 watts when running(not variable). The history showed power output at 90 watts, 80 watts, 110 watts... Inconsistent.

Well, unfortunately for me, I'm autistic, and sometimes when my head is in another problem my brain sees something but cannot focus on it and glazes over it. It's only later that I realize and understand the significance of what I saw(this happens a lot in conversations as well, afterwards and completely randomly I'm like "holy crap, they were talking about this!")

I replaced the outlet with a z wave one I already ordered, then changed my automations to the new plug, and deleted the old plug(I wasn't confident that deleting the device from an automation wouldn't delete my automation, so I did it in that order)

But now I'm pissed I didn't grab a screenshot of the history to share! If anyone knows how to pull historical data from a deleted device let me know please.

This realization is a little concerning to me. The outlet became a resistor essentially, and that could be dangerous. I will disassemble the outlet when I have time and see if I can notice anything off.

Moving forward, it seems wise to add an automation that warns me if my ERV power consumption is less than expected. That shouldn't be hard, and it will give me a little piece of mind.

I have Bali blinds in my living room, which can be controlled via Zigbee. How do I close the blinds when the sun starts to shine into the living room and heating it up? I assume I need a lux sensor? If so, which one would you recommend?

Do folks run Home Assistant on their primary or IoT network? And for those that have a PoE based Z2M such as SLZB-06, does that go on the primary or IoT network?

I recently made the choice to rebuild my whole Home Assistant ecosystem from scratch. Overall, I'm happy I did it because everything is MUCH more reliable but it was a ton of work to even get back to a mostly functional state and frankly... I'm pooped.

In addition to all this, I've taken on new responsibility's at work and I just don't have the time or energy I thought I would.

Overall Im looking for someone to set the dashboard back up. I've reconnected all my devices, configured them, reimported all of my automations, redid my helpers etc etc, All that's left now is a good dashboard with a sleek UI.

• I wrote together this blog post detailing how you can setup stockholm lokaltrafik (metro/bus/train) which has an open API to get the next departures. Then pipe the data into node-red, which gets triggered using a voice assistant and then returns the departure times. The code could be adjusted to work for other cities and is rather easy once you figure out how to write functions in node-red
• The only thing I still struggle with is getting which speaker was the one that triggered the button in node-red. Has anyone managed to solve this issue? I saw a few solutions with checking last used speaker, but the data comes too late.

For the longest time, my bluetooth devices (switchbot curtains, Aquarium lights etc) would take forever to respond or not at all.

I had about 4 or 5 of the Aitrip ESP32 WROOM modules acting as proxies around the house.

On a whim, I bought the official Espressiff ESP32-C6 to play with it (ESP32-C6-DevKitM-1-N4), especially since it has an RGB LED on board and dual Type C plugs.

I add this as a proxy too and powered off the existing ESP32 modules to test it.

Wow, the difference was night and day. Every bluetooth device now responds almost instantly and reliably.

Another thing I noticed is the WiFi is much more stable. For example ESPHome OTA updates took forever with the previous modules but the DevKit is quick.

Not sure if the DevKit has better RF design but looking closely at my old modules, I noticed some solder joints for the GPIO pins were very poor. In one case, one of the GPIO pins just pulled out with no effort. So I think the RF section may not have been that good either.

I’ve got ADHD, and focusing on tasks has always been a struggle, for as long as I can remember, whether I’m at home or at work.

But a few months ago, I got into Home Assistant, and it’s been a total game-changer. For whatever reason, I can spend hours (or even days) messing around with automations. Just when I think I’m done, a new idea randomly pops into my head and I’m back at it, trying something totally different.

HA hits all the sweet spots for my ADHD:

1. Hyper-focus – I can get completely lost in it.
2. Instant feedback – Either it works, or it doesn’t. Simple.
3. Creative problem-solving – There’s Always a fun challenge that comes to be just before bed, to figure out. 🤣
4. Control and structure – Helps bring some order to the chaos in my head!

Anyone else in the same boat?

Edit : while we are all here… here’s my new challenge: I have a floor standing dumb fan in my bedroom. (I could go without food and drink but I can’t sleep without the fan on, doesn’t matter the weather - lol)

The fan is plugged into a smart switch. Easy. However, the fan also has speed control via 3 buttons. How do I entiti-fy those buttons? 🤔
