2025.7: That calls for an update! HA Cupertino Icons has been updated to support the underlying API changes!

What is it?

Home Assistant Cupertino Icons is a project I started many years ago to bring SF Symbols Icons into Home Assistant.

How do you use it?

ios:lightbulb-fill | ios:cloud-moon-rain#color | ios:bed-double-fill#fullcolor

It also supports:

  • Multi-color icons, inverted color, and specfic shades
  • Icon Picker

Getting Started

  • It can be installed via HACS! Just head over to the repo to check out install instructions

What's New in v4.0.0

  • Add support for SF Symbols 6 (Credit: HoussamOtarid)
  • Fixed deprecation issue for HA 2025.7.0 (Credit: lnlyssg)

Huge thank you to all the contributors for making this release possible!

Hey folks I'm working on a smart home startup (NeuraHomes) aiming to make home automation simpler, cheaper, and smarter for real-world users not just techies.

I'd really appreciate your help: 👉 What pain points have you experienced with your smart home setup? Is it device compatibility, setup headaches, price, privacy, reliability, or something else entirely?

We're building from the ground up, and your insights could shape something better. Brutal honesty welcome. 🙏

Got the chance to do everything from scratch and would gladly take input on what to think of and not miss. Using HA in my current house with frigate/cctv, smart switches and so forth so I’m thinking of anything HA related that you would do gotten the chance (or not do).

Due to a tech failure I needed to restore my HASS installation. Easy peasy, I've got this installation since before 2020 and regularly make backups.

It appears in an update since then they made backups encrypted. I don't have the key anywhere. It's AES-128 so....

Back to scratch! At least my installation will be clean(ish) now.

Hi, I have a quick question: Which robot vacuum BRANDS do you love? I'm now not looking for a particular one but I'd like to know what companies are currently widely loved and then do some research. But it's so great if you can tell me your favorite specific models.

Thank you!

For those of you on the fence about local LLMs with HA: Gemma 3n was released on Ollama and is absolutely amazing. I'm using gemma3n:e4b to add variety and stylize TTS announcements in home assistant. However, gemma3n:e2b is blistering fast for VPE. I'm getting an impressive 7.4-8.6 tokens/s on CPU only (fourth gen Intel i5) inference. Time to go local!

I am wanting to get some WLED's for a project this week, and not sure which ones work with home assistant out of the box. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: for clarity, I want these for under my bed so that when myself or wife get up in middle of the night I can turn them on low for seeing as we walk around the bed. It's a plywood platform bed and hurts like hell if you hit it.

Howdy! Just wanted to share my process for using Home Assistant to make a fun little escape room in my apartment. I'm a game designer and thought it'd be fun to use my smart technology to hide clues and set the scene for an immersive puzzle room that my friends could enjoy, so I did!

I mostly focused on the visual interactions, largely setting light colors, blinking lights, etc to grab attention and set the tone. I also used the HACS Eufy integration to get my vacuum cleaner to roll back, beep, and reveal a clue (by basically just turning it on, pausing it and restarting it a few times, then having it re-dock). I also used voice assistant integration to let my Echo trigger automations when prompted by players, which was fun.

The biggest hurdle was getting folks to be able to call webhooks from their phones to trigger all the automations, so I just used a QR/NFC to let them connect to my wifi, then I used Samba to access the /www/ folder in my Home Assistant server to host my custom HTML pages. Those pages use JS to post the webhooks when they scan NFC/QR throughout the puzzle, keeping everything local and more secure. I'm so happy with how it all turned out!

The full development retrospective is here on my YouTube, in case anyone's curious!

This journey features the LD2412S, which shows impressive sensing capabilities.

After extended testing and use, we believe this radar has great potential. The improved antenna and new low-level algorithms have resolved some of the issues found in earlier models without the “S” suffix.

We’re proud to be among the first makers to build and share these devices.

To celebrate, we’re offering a 15% discount, and we warmly invite more people to join this fascinating exploration into millimeter-wave sensing.

One tip for working with these highly sensitive radars is to configure a “no-person delay” before triggering an “absence” event. This can help avoid awkward moments like the lights turning off too soon. A delay of 2–3 seconds often results in much more stable and reliable performance, depending on your environment.

If you’re curious about how well it performs, a reference table created by our fellow adventurer Primoslate may offer helpful insights.

Would like to to mop and empty. I’d be looking for

  • zone clean up from HA
  • auto empty
  • mop (any that automatically change?)
  • concrete polished floors
  • stops at stairs

I’d like to link it ah s have automations with motion sensors so it doesn’t come on if people are around.
