I want to be able to detect a smelly ass bathroom and turn on the exhaust fan. Has anyone done this?

This is, by far, the greatest use of home automation I can think of. I have an incredibly powerful sense of smell, I'm like a bloodhound. It is the world's worst superpower. The smell of my kids' shits makes me gag.

I do not want an occupancy sensor or anything like that. It has to detect the gas.

Anything ready made out there if I don’t want to DIY? I googled it and someone suggested a Shelly Plus. Then there’s a ton of ESP32 but that’s all DIY if I understood correctly?

Hey everyone!👋🏼

This morning the team deployed a player update with a few changes regarding security and improved playback for some of our older players. There's always work to be done on both of these fronts, so we're excited to keep the updates coming. Check out below for a brief rundown of what's in the update and I'll be happy to answer any clarifying questions (the best I can) in the comments.

Player Firmware Version: 85.0-66270

In this update:

  • Introduction of additional security controls (Requires App version 80.23 or above)
    • Learn more about this in our Sonos Community Forums post.
    • This feature will be gradually rolled out over the coming weeks to help ensure stability and performance. I'll update this post when the release has been completed.
  • Support ending for WEP (wireless security encryption)
  • Improved responsiveness during playback for Play:1 & Play:3

Hi folks, curious to hear your experiences. What’s the best smart home setup you’ve either built or used? I’m trying to plan instead of buying stuff randomly.

  • What made your setup great? Was it the responsiveness? Integration?
  • Were there any devices that stood out as super reliable or surprisingly bad?
  • Did you follow any specific logic or layout for wiring, sensors, or automation flows?

I’d also love to hear what your ideal smart home looks like. What tech you rely on the most day to day, and what you'd do differently if you were starting over. Hoping to learn from what’s worked well (or not) for others.

I am looking to add a few chores to Home Assistant. Me and my partner are really bad a remembered to, or when we last changed the sheets, cleaned the bathroom, etc etc. I did some looking around and saw a lot of love around Grocy, but it seems like the integration to HA via HACS is now dead.

How are you doing your chores? Any good integrations?

We recently went through a renovation of apartment and we kept an older but quite powerful LG AC. By older, I mean it has no ThinQ integration, just a simple remote. The apartment gets hot, and just as we were going home, my partner said, "I wish we could cool the living room before we get home".

I thought surely there must be some hacky way to simulate remote using ESP32 or something, so I got excited that I'll have _A New Project_. Well, it turned out not to be a long one. I did some research that there is already such a thing - BroadLink M4 Mini that is super cheap. I found used one on FB Marketplace for 10€, picked it up on the same day. I connected to HA within minutes. Then I used https://github.com/smartHomeHub/SmartIR to create a Climate entity that simulates the IR remote, and it works like a charm! Sure, it goes out of sync if I use physical remote, but other than that it's like native integration.

I was worried that maybe I need to put the device on a high shelf with a powerbank so it can reach AC. Nope, it can comfortable sit hidden on the floor.

I can't believe how easy it was. I love this ecosystem!
