My kids never turn on the vent when they take a shower. The vent is already connected to home assistant but what’s missing is a humidity sensor or another solution to turn on the vent and leave it on after.

Anyone has any suggestions?

I have searched around endlessly but there is only ever mixed or deprecated info out there. The ZHA network graph recently underwent a rewrite and I feel it’s even less understandable.

There is no legend, we now have dotted and solid lines of varying thickness . Colors are only shades of blue and gray now instead of red yellow etc.

Does anyone have a link to an actual explanation of how to interpret the graph?

What Home Assistant automations or smart devices that integrate with Home Assistant should I invest in for my home? I code for a living so I’m not afraid of more complex automations.

When we bought our house in 2023, my wife did some digging and found out who originally built it back in 2016. She contacted the builder to get the full set of house and site plans because she wanted to start figuring out furniture placement before we moved in.

At the time, she had no idea how helpful that would be for me.

I’ve since used those PDFs for just about everything in our smart home setup. Whether I’m planning where to put Zigbee routers, checking signal paths for Wi-Fi, or running Ethernet through walls, those plans have made the process way easier.

I wanted to share just how helpful floor plans can be, especially when paired with ChatGPT. By feeding the layout into a conversation, I’ve gotten genuinely useful advice on network layout, device placement, and how to avoid signal issues. It's like collaborating with a smart home planning assistant.

So in the end, my wife unknowingly helped build the foundation for our whole setup. If you’re buying or moving into a home, get your hands on the floor plans if you can. They’re more useful than I ever expected.

Curious as to what other animal/pet things people are automating.

Having spent the last three months migrating the vast majority of my automations to HA, I created this graphic to summarize my feelings.

I'm always forgetting to take my meds at work because my mornings are hectic. I usually notice around 10am, when things calm down and the adrenaline drop reminds me I skipped them. If I take the dose then. It doesn't kick in until 45 minutes after. Those 45 minutes can send me down a spiral that wrecks my whole day.

I've designed a pill box with an embedded NFC tag. If that tag hasn't been scanned by my phone before 9AM HA pushes me a reminder. It also tracks how many pills i have left, so when the count drops below a certain treshold (3 work-weeks for me) i get a nudge to book a GP appointment.

Bonus 1, it keeps track when i've been at the GP and when i've been at the pharmacist, if those two trigger within 3 days of eachother it's probably because i went to take a new load of meds and it tops it up the exact amount that i always get on my prescription.

Bonus 2, the original pill box it comes in fits perfictly inside the top opening. No spills when transfering the Pills!

Bonus 3, the NFC chip get's printed inside the case, won't ever lose that thing!

Bonus 4, it has a place for a sticker on top so if I misplace it people know who to look for!

HA has changed my life in many ways, this is just one of them and I love it.
