People are very excited for this game and I can see why. It fills the Bloodborne-shaped hole in many people's Bloodborne-shaped heart.

I've long been a fan of text adventures (aka interactive fiction) so when I saw that Aaron A. Reed was Kickstarting a book covering 50 years of it, I immediately became a backer. For each year, he selects one text adventure that encapsulates what the state of the genre was like for that year. Well, he's recently released it to his backers in electronic form and has set up a website where everyone can find links to each of the games he covers so they play, download, or buy the game in question. It's definitely worth a look.

Seems like a f2p For Honor-esque game. I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Procedural generation is an interesting topic to me, as it forgoes traditional level design in favor of a bunch of formulas, rules, and random elements to make varied replayable gameplay.

One of my favorite procgen games is Dwarf Fortress, and how it creates a fully realized world with lore and history, and then places both fortress and adventures as relatively small stories in said world.

Also Deep rock galactic is great in varying its caves, from normal tunnels to massive caverns that you can only traverse using ziplines and platforms

Any other interesting procgen games?

Psychonauts was always one of those games I was meaning to play ever since it came out. I've played most of the double fine titles but I started it and it didn't instantly click so I put it down and never got back to it. The second one came out and I thought alright time to go for it. Wow! What a debut from double fine! Clever and fun mechanics, well defined characters, engaging story and actually laugh out loud moments! If you have kids the game dialogue is snappy like a Pixar movie. I made it to the tower and just can't wait to see what happens next. There are a few small things like camera angles or controls that can be a little frustrating after all it's almost a 20 year old game but if do yourself a favor and grab it for $2 on steam or Xbox store right now if you think you might like it. I've already got #2 in the queue.

BattleBit Remastered is huge-scale modern warfare for $15, and it's pretty darn fun.

Just finished Alma's Awakening on PC. It seems like a classic NES Metroidvania game. While I'm not a Metroidvania fan, I hate backtracking and losing out on items because I don't have the skills to get things, it makes this approachable because of teleports. Beautiful pixel graphics, controls are floaty but just like original NES games. It's pretty rough, but also has a mode to help those folks, like me, that don't have the time for the hardcore stuff. Even with accessibility enabled it's still pretty tough and a few times I quit and walked away for a bit, but it's just so lovely I had to keep coming back and finish it. Wonderful game if you enjoy classic NES style games.

Anyone recommend any other classic NES style games?

Up until now I was using an XBOX One controller with a clip for attaching your phone, which worked well but was quite unergonomic. I had to keep my wrists in an awkward angle, which made my fingers go numb after a short amount of time.

Now I got me the Gamesir X2 Pro and I couldn't be happier. The Switch form factor is SO MUCH MORE ergonomic and with the USB C connection there's no latency at all. It's finally fun to play emulators on the phone (or to stream from my gaming PC).

The buttons are rather clicky, so the acustics can get a little annoying, but haptically they feel great. The build quaility is pretty satisfying all around.

Totally recommended if you're into phone gaming.

They were asking for this. I can't only presume the pitch for this game was "Bloodborne 2 without the IP", and to be fair I can see why it landed. Fromsoft left a hole and they're looking to fill it.

Digital Foundry did a tech breakdown for the Starfield Direct showcase. I think it's looking great so far! It looks like Skyrim and No Man's Sky had a baby and I am here for it.

BattleBit Remastered is an anticipated Battlefield-like game with destructable maps and huge 127v127 matches. It's already one of the top sellers on Steam.

Seems like a pretty good 2.5d metroidvania!

The demo of this game will be playable in the next Steam Next Fest (June 19 - 26)
