I figured this would be coming to games within the next 3-5 years but the fact that there’s already a tech demo out is kinda crazy. It’s admittedly a little rough around the edges but still impressive.

Hey all, I'm just looking for some solid story driven games on Xbox gamepass, that are equally fun to play. I had been recommended the Mass Effect series, and while I believe the story will be great, the first game is an absolute slog to get through right now.

What are some good story games that are equally entertaining in the actual gameplay that are currently on gamepass?

Heck, even just games with solid gameplay will do, if the story is serviceable.

There was a lot of hype around the project and it collected a lot of contributors in a short time from people who wanted to remake the game in that era. The project is expected to continue without her

Just ran across this and have been stuck thinking about how this would have affected the development of gaming, PDAs, laptops, and cell phones. If there was ever any doubt, I think we can now rest assured that this is an inferior timeline after having learned about the WorkBoy.

No idea what any of these words mean but I'm sure Warhammer fans are excited.

First, some background: I first became aware of PC gaming in 2012 (15yrs after HL1, 7yrs after HL2). I played both games back-to-back and then later replayed both separately.

There's so much to be said about these two games, but I'll sum up my feelings in a few bullet points:

  • HL1 is more thematically unified. It plays true to its Sci-Fi & Die Hard roots up to the point of campiness, but that fits rather well for a game whose protagonist is effectively a nerdy Doom Marine -- more a force-of-nature embodiment of survival than traditional hero.
  • HL2, on the other hand, feels weighed-down by this legacy. It wants to tell a serious story about a charismatic freedom-fighter. That's an aesthetic which clashes terribly with HL1's mute, stoic survivalist.
  • HL1 has a better core gameplay loop. It plays to its strengths: gunplay & level exploration. Exposition & puzzling are almost always delivered through these mediums wherever possible. Those few chapters which depart from this philosophy (On a Rail, Xen) are the weakest in the whole game as a result.
  • HL2, by contrast, seems almost insecure. It only trusts the player to stick with the core gameplay-loop for a few chapters at most before pivoting into yet another gimmick -- almost all of which (barring the gravity gun sequence) feel painfully drawn out:
    • Water Hazard: Boating
    • Highway 17: Driving
    • Sandtraps: Physics "Puzzling" + "Platforming"
    • Nova Prospekt: Wave-Based Point Defense

What do you guys think? There's a lot worth unpacking here which I couldn't quite articulate. What are your takeaways?

Hi! I'm the mod over on https://lemmy.ml/c/ps5

We are currently afflicted with the remote moderator bug, meaning that you'll get a "404 community not found" message.

Here is a link to the GitHub issue: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3075

We are still accessible at https://lemmy.ml/c/ps5@lemmy.ml

When the new backend update rolls out it should be fixed. Until then we unfortunately don't show up on browse.feddit.de or lemmyverse.net

I've been working really hard to build a great community over there and a little bug like this just knee capped our discoverability. The only thing I can think of doing is posting this on other gaming communities to spread the word.

The rule is: DON'T

if a game was released too recently, or worse yet, it's unreleased, use the Spoiler tag to wrap all the offending content in the body text, and don't type any spoiler into the title. Properly indicating there are spoilers inside the post is very recommend too. Oh, and as suggested by some people, major story spoilers from old games should be avoided as well!

What is "too recently"? Basically, use your common sense for this one. If you think there is still a lot of people playing the game for the first time, then that is a good indicator that you shouldn't be saying out loud that Darth Vader kills Dumbledore and things like that.

Thanks for your understanding.

Edit: and this new rule has already been edited, thanks everyone for the suggestions.

So my old headset finally fell apart completely. I've been trying to find a fitting replacement, but man is it hard... so here's hoping I can get some guidance here.

I'm looking for a comfortable wireless headset with decent reach and mic. That's it. No need for ANC. Or at least the option to turn it off. Don't need RGB or fancy designs. It seems impossible to find a headset that fits the description without being subpar quality...

Any suggestions are appreciated!

While there are definitely some clunky aspects that still need to be worked out, I've been having a blast. Wanted to give the devs a shoutout-- an incredible accomplishment for a three-man dev team!

Hey everyone,

I'm a bit of a fan of the Emergency series sadly the game hast lost a lot of quality over the years and the resent installments are just the same game with minor changes. So do you know any games that are like Emergency? I know of 911 / 112 Operator and they're good but not quite the same.
