Welcome!

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.

And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome 🤟😁

This week's fediverse news:

  • Mastodon announces and retracts a new ToS for their instances
  • Threads moves their fediverse integration to a separate feed
  • Wanderer is a new fediverse platform for sharing your hiking and biking trails
  • PieFed launches 1.0 version of the platform

On another note: Fediverse Report will now be published under the name of Connected Places, more information on that here: https://connectedplaces.online/welcome-to-connected-places/

> PieFed usage has been growing very fast lately, with many communities moving to piefed.social from lemm.ee and several new instances such as piefed.ca, piefed.blahaj.zone, and more . > > With this increased attention a light has been shone on many previously ignored parts of PieFed so we've been hard at work closing the gaps and incorporating new ideas from new people. Also it has become necessary to begin doing proper releases so instances have a more stable place to park themselves without being exposed to the constant turmoil that comes from running bleeding-edge code in production. > > Due to feedback from a wider audience than before, some of the idiosyncratic features that I built because of my personal obsessions have been made optional and OFF by default, such as the 4chan meme filter, meme communities being flagged as 'low quality' and so on. Private voting has fundamental issues and could be removed soon, I'll make a separate post about that. > > The API is now in use and the mobile app Interstellar works with it well. Other apps are working on PieFed compatibility too. Again a lot of work went in there to get it ready for prime time. > > To sum up - leading up to this release the last few weeks have showed intensive development with major focus on performance optimization, UI/UX improvements and enhanced federation capabilities. We made significant progress on API development, moderation tools, and overall platform stability. > > Below is an incomplete list of some things we've worked on in June. Voting in the threadiverse (en.m.wikipedia.org)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by Snoopy@jlai.lu to c/fediverse@piefed.social

Hi,

i want to explore the various way we can highlight content.

Currently, on the threadiverse, we use vote to show our approval, discontent...and we can couple it with a bot for moderation. Or hide post below a certain score...

Some instance completly removed downvote as Beehaw. Piefed is experimenting private vote. On other fediverse software, mastodon, iceshrimp, there is no downvote and we use emojis to express our feelings.

You also have website as https://slashdot.org/ where you can tell that comment was insightfull or a troll, or funny...

There is also also website that compare software or video as https://tournesol.app/

  • Do you think vote sould be private ? Public ? And why ?
  • Are you sastified with the current voting system ? And why ?
  • What other interesting software/website that tried something different do you know ?
  • What way do you imagine to highlight content and improve search, discoverability ?

Personal note: 5K a month is absolutely absurd for 17 MAU. lemmy.world does that at 1/10 the cost. /0 could probably handle it as is, or maybe with some small increases. Likewise, we have enough donations to cover our infra costs since day 0, and I'm terrible at outreach! I don't know what they're hosting on, but this also sounds self-inflicted to some extent.

My main instance, jlai.lu, will be celebrating its two years the 22 june. We are very happy and we plan to celebrate it with some game together and cooking. 😁

And ya ? Any plan for a little party with your instance ? ☺️

(we also planned to invade you with delicious food picture 😈. No that was an joke)

With the PieFed API support having been enabled for about a week now, a lot of you have been trying Interstellar for the first time.

What do you feel is missing? What is the feature you would like added most? What pain points do you run into? Also, feel free to include what you already like about the app.

This is no guarantee, btw, I just want to get some feedback from y'all and hopefully we can find some points of improvement.

Lastly, there are a lot of PieFed specific features that are not supported by the API, and we obviously wouldn't be able to add support to Interstellar until they are in the API. We can still discuss them here if you'd like. Those features include Feeds, Topics, Polls, Flairs, Tags, admin/mod tools, and probably more.

Hi All !

I did my best to do a little wiki about PieFed. I'm not completly sastified with what i wrote but it is the first step. We will improve it :D

We are missing some feature as notification. Maybe its organization is messy. X)

Feedback are welcome. I also want to do a FAQ, so do hesitate to send us your questions in comment.

Thank a lot for your help :)

Contribute to PieFed

Edit : Very cool thank you to you all :D i added some line to developp another topic about conspiracy and alt-right pipeline.

As for the wiki on piefed app, i will do a table with the most essential features of Piefed :

  • multicommunity
  • flairs and tags
  • mod and admin tool

Inspired by a new introducing video and its reference to https://jointhefediverse.net/ , see link and discussion here: https://piefed.social/post/889659

Jointhefediverse is a great resource for interested people/new users, and for those a link to a community dedicated to questions re the whole fediverse and interaction with regulars could be a nice addition.

I'm only aware of 'Fediverse' communities not specifically for that group, or communities tailored to new users of Piefed (https://piefed.ca/c/newtopiefed) or Lemmy (https://lemmy.ca/c/newtolemmy ). Am I missing something?

The community itself could be set up rather quickly, but maybe we talk about things like name and other basics before?

Elena Rossini's accounts/blogs regarding fediverse, hosting etc. are worth following anyway, now she produced this cool video. Several subtitles were already contributed.
