Fedia has issues. Some of them I can fix, some of them I can't yet fix. The server's CPUs are maxed with caddy federation requests, probably among other issues.

I am going to unroll the instance into a few separate systems: One for nginx and the php/symphony app, on for the database, and (perhaps) one for rabbitmq and redis. I am also hopeful I can separatre nginx and php-fpm onto separate hosts, but it's not clear how hard or easy that will be.

I'll be taking the server offline for a few hours Saturday morning (eastern time) to do the rebuild/scale out. I'll try to minimize the downtime, though.

Steve Huffman, the Reddit CEO, told NBC News in an interview that a user protest on the site this week is led by a minority of moderators and doesn’t have wide support.

How do I just see a list of all magazines that I am subscribed to across the fediverse? I click subscribed to at the top right, but it just shows a list of posts, and not the magazines themselves.

So today I subscribed to the VideoGameMusic magazine over at kbin.social. I made a post here on Fedia, expect it to show up on kbin.social - and so far it hasn't.

I wasn't sure if this is a bug, or if I'm just mis-understanding how Kbin->Kbin communications work. Thank you in advance!

Apologies if I'm asking an easy to answer question. I seem to be having some issues with federation from other sites, particularly sopuli.xyz.

https://fedia.io/m/linux@sopuli.xyz works fine
https://fedia.io/m/fountainpens@sopuli.xyz gives a 404, but !fountainpens@sopuli.xyz is viewable directly on that site and federated at beehaw.org (beehaw.org/c/fountainpens@sopuli.xyz).

I have no idea why this is happening. Can individual communities/magazines defederate from particular sites? If not, why would I get such different results from two communities on the same server?

A small doubt I have.

When I enter the main page for fedia, https://fedia.io, I get a front page that contains all the magazines. However, I have set up my profile so that the front page contains only the subscribed ones.

In order to get there, I have to click on the "Fedia" link on the top-left corner, and then I get to the /sub page.

Isn't this slightly counterintuitive? Shouldn't our main page be the one we've requested in the profile, instead of having to click somewhere else?

I don't know if this is a fedia quirk or something in kbin, but I think this functionality is important.

I noticed there's a place in settings that lists blocked domains, the same way there's a place to see blocked magazines, is there a way to add domains to it?

Not sure how I felt about seeing closeups of but-holes on fedia.io's front page from lemmynsfw .com during my lunch break.

Can we bring some communities here please?

We need a m/unixporn please! Why on Earth is that in a for-profit platform when kbin is available escapes to my understanding.

With respect to kbin, I see "in [x] minutes" beside posts. Is this referring to when the post is to be federated? I don't understand the implications of that phrase in that context like I do with "[x] hours ago".

What I've been doing is copying the post's link to Fedia's search bar. Sometimes it works, sometimes it shows up empty. This one deosn't seem to work. The comments are also usually empty.

Tbh it's quite tedious as currently I'm browsing to every instance I want to read, and then when I want to comment, I have to copy the post link and return to Fedia, paste into search bar, and then comment. It's a mild inconvenience at least on PC, but on the phone it's just a pain to do. Juggling between multiple tabs is quite a demanding task on my potato phone. Not to mention Lemmy's website is so heavy for some reason, even worse than new Reddit. AND it keeps refreshing the home page automatically so sometimes I clicked on the wrong post.

Just a quick and dirty userscript to add some features I feel are super important. I'll probably look into creating some real PRs, but I figure the devs are probably in "put out fires" mode right now.

When looking over my profile I noticed that several of the posts that I have boosted are actually posts I have downvoted? Does anyone else see this behavior?

I believe all of the image problems are solved now.

I understand that there is apparently some issues with remote content. Note that kbin.social and some others may have gone into lockdown mode due to load.

Speaking of load, another reason why some federation doesn't appear to work is that the server is pegged. 32 threads of 90% CPU usage.

I bought 4 more servers and I am going to be giving docker swarm a try to spread the load out across 5 systems.

The user and magazine are both from Lemmy.world, but next to the title it says (fedia.io). What does that site in the parentheses mean?

I haven't been able to successfully follow a magazine yet from Pleroma, it just sicks at a follow request. Has anybody else been able to do so?

Let me see if I have this straight -- I'm getting a bit of a headache.

If you make a new link, article, or photo {on kbin} it will become a thread in a magazine which you must choose. Replies to that thread are comments and go to everyone following that (thread? magazine?)

If you make a new post it will become a non-threaded {untitled} microblog entry in a magazine which you must choose. Replies to that microblog post will be replies and go to everyone mentioned by username.

If the latter is true, I wonder why there isn't a hidden "microblog" magazine for microblog entries. Why are they forced to belong to a certain magazine? If the user isn't subbed to any mags what shows up in the "select a magazine" dropdown?

{Edited to add missing words and this: the interface said "thread created successfully" (or similar) and calls this a thread in the right sidebar. At that point I legit couldn't remember if I made it as a post or article. It appeared under microblog. The profile overview shows it as a post and not a thread. }

There's a button when creating a thread which says "OC" with no further explanation. I've seen "OC" noted to the left of thread titles, presumably because somebody has ticked "OC". What does it mean??!

When clicking on an image it gets stuck loading the image. Opening the image link directly results in a 404. It seems that for some reason there is a /media missing in the url(?).
