Algorithmically created art, programming craftsmanship with old and new hardware.

So far the only rules are do not be an arse, posts should be related to the community itself or relevant content - and mark potentially NSFW stuff as such.

EERIE FOREST
one-screen intro on cartridge for Amstrad GX4000, 464+ & 6128+
by Overflow/Logon System & TotO at Alchimie Party 2017

Disclaimer: most of the material is copyright Psygnosis 1989,
from "(Shadow of the) Beast" game by Reflections.
Music is a conversion from the original MOD by David Whittaker.
GFX are either converted from, or inspired by the game -
mainly Amiga version, but also Megadrive & Lynx versions.

Main code and conversions done in January & February 2017.
Then: one month more before the party - to polish the screen.
Thanks to TotO for his kindly help - to rise the quality even higher:
design (with logos at bottom/top), more (animated) sprites, emphasis on details.

This intro has a goal: promote Amstrad GX4000 as one of the most powerful 8bit platforms.
Now that Gerald has designed a SD-cartridge (see http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/C4CPC),
that's an easy job to show that GX4000 is not the crap most of people were lauhging at.
Just think about: is this what a possible "Amiga 8bit" could look and sound like?

Used tools are:
Winape emulator
SJasm+ asm
Crimson Editor editing asm source
BlitzBasic generating data
Frhed checking files
OpenMPT analysing mod
Audacity saving samples
PaintShop Pro gfx conversions

readme.txt:

Eon - Party version released for the Amiga demo compo at Revision 2019
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Requirements: OCS, 512 kB chip, 512 kB fast (or 1 MB chip)

It sure took a long time to get this demo done, but we are very happy with the results.

The party version of this demo has a bunch of issues that will be fixed in the final one.
* Due using OCS specific bug(s) in some parts they look incorrect on AGA.
* If you don’t swap to disk 2 fast enough things break badly.
* Likely some other things as well such as minor glitches.
* There might be glitches on accelerated amigas in some corner cases but the intention is for the trackloading version to work on all hardware and kickstarts.
* The 3D wolf is temporary and will be replaced in the final version

We will also release (along with the final version) a non-trackloaded edition of the demo that will require some more (fast) memory as we will load everything to memory instead of stream from the floppy but first we need some (well deserved) rest before we do this work so bear with us. This version will run from Workbench on accelerated Amigas.

Fun facts:
- We hit every documented hardware bug on OCS in this demo more than once
- The song can’t fit in chip memory all at once (the module is 559K in size)
- We built so much tooling for this demo that it is kind of ridiculous: a register allocating assembler, a new linker, an emulator version with memory protection and instruction level trace profiling, the scene packing tools,.. will be looking to release some of them later

Full credits:

Emoon - main coding, system, tool code, effects, music sample streaming
Calladin - direction, graphics
Hoffman - music, drum mixer code
Dep - track loading, 3d scenes code, system, tools
Kalms - 3d scenes code, opts, system

"OF CATS, MEN AND ABSTRACT FIGURES" by Stardust

A demo for ZX Spectrum 128K compatible machines

Made especially for Speccy.pl Party 2022.1

That was a long time ago
Where they came on the night,
Lording and dream I know,
Blue as a window light.

Where the rain to my eyes;
May still be ice and snow,
Cold and untold was I,
Words that were soft and low.

Warm with the day's embrace,
Slid, with an lazy voice,
How I forget its face;
It only gives its choice.

And there you let a leaf,
Where'd be a narrow stall,
Forth with a sound of grief,
Sat at the silent wall.

Machine translationComplete collection of works for viewing and implementation of "Bit Tired demo 2025 by CSI" on BK-0011M

The archive contains:

disk - CSIDOS disk image with demo

bins - bin files for uploading to CSIDOS, MKDOS, ANDOS (see below).

sources - demo source code.

!ATTENTION! To listen to music in the demo, you need to have the following devices connected to the BK0011M:

a) SMK512 b) 2 x AY/YM - AZBK or GryphonSound or TurboSound

If these devices are missing, the demo will be shown without sound :(

!ATTENTION! The demo works in CSIDOS, MKDOS and ANDOS! The universal loader determines its location (BK-0011, CSIDOS, MKDOS, ANDOS) and loads it. The boot block for MKDOS is from Manwe/SandS, for ANDOS is from GRF. bin files can be uploaded to one of the above DOS and simply run the .exe file.

!ATTENTION! The ANDOS disk must be defragmented or simply prepare a "clean" disk before uploading bin files.

!ATTENTION! The demo works both on hardware and in the emulator. The timing is maintained in terms of music and capabilities.

Something a little bit different from ate bit at Breakpoint 2008

Hoping to put some fun and variety back in to the stale 64k scene..

-=- Tech -=-

Most of the code is actually written in Z80 and runs using a stripped
down Z80 emulator. All of the esoteric features of the chip have been
dropped - including annoying things like clock cycles and anything
but the most essential instructions

The GPU (and other utility functions like maths and resource loading)
are implemented in C and called through rst instructions. The audio
comes courtesy of a version of VTXPlay, hacked to give six channels
of sound. The original tune was created in Vortex Tracker. The
graphics use a single OpenGL texture and are dumped there from the
emulator cores memory every frame. The screen in memory uses a
similar layout to that of a real Spectrum but without that bloody
annoying interleaving of pixel rows

So this demo is a little bit unusual - it is essentially a tricked
out emulator with a demo, all in 64k. But where's the fun in doing
things the normal way?

-=- Calling all artists! -=-

Ate bit are currently on the lookout for artists. We are looking for
people who are outstanding and who have experience on any of the
platforms that we've released on - that's Spectrum, 8bit Commodores
and PC - as well as medium to high end PC platforms. Any other
platform experience would be good too - who knows what platform we
might release on next?

If you're interested then drop me a line at evilpaul@evilpaul.org and
point me at some examples of your work. Or come find me on #ukscene
on ircnet

Greetings to the usual suspects
Massive thank you to Raceeend and his sleeping mate from HCBA for
letting me use their PC at the party place to build my final exe

---------------------< Edison · 2018 >----------------------

The Laser 200 (at least the one we used) seems to be a stripped
down version of the computer also known as:

  * Salora Fellow
  * VZ200
  * Texet TX8000

The Laser 200 we used has only 4 KB RAM (including 2 KB VRAM which
is shared with the graphics chip).

How to run on hardware:

We haven't gotten our speedloader to work if stored on tape, but
you may be more lucky with a high quality tape deck.

For the best retro experience you can burn the audio to a CD, as
we're doing in the compo. You can of course also play it directly
from your state of the art computer.

Connect the left audio channel to the Laser 200, and the right audio
channel to your speakers. Making a custom cable may be a good idea.
