Hello everyone. I recently bought a SABRENT docking station, and even wrote a post about it because my pc would not detect my hardrive. The reason might be the input current and the USB 3.0 being too weak. So I'm looking for a SATA to USB C instead. The Icy Box IB-121CL-C31 was recommanded to me by the IT guy of my lab, but it's a bit out of my budget. Plus I only have one hardrive at the moment and I don't plan to be any more in the near future. Is there any cheaper but reliable alternative to that product? Thanks a lot!

I've tried ways to download it but the only possible and direct way it shows to download a video is via torrent file. The IDM shows the option to download the .srt file but not the video, tried yt-dlp --cookies-from-browser URL but it doesn't work either, also the cookie editor extension shows no cookies at all for some reason. Also there's one another query, I have this extension on my browser that helps to increase the speed of videos on several sites and it works on this too so if it recognises it as a video why don't IDM or J downloaders can't?

Is there any NAS OS that supports:

-Easy drive expansion (adding more disks later)

-Mixing different drive sizes (retaining the largest possible usable space)

-Proper Bitrot protection

Seems like three easy and fundamental requirements that nobody (besides Synology, which is terrible for other reasons) currently meets:

-TrueNAS (ZFS): Doesn’t support mixing different drive sizes, vdev types, drive expansion,…..

-Windows Server (ReFS): Performance is broken, but more important Bitrot protection doesn’t work as intended even on the newest version

-Unraid: Doesn’t support bitrot protection

-Synology DSM: Supports everything, but is a walled garden forcing users more and more towards Synology drives, modules, etc… Is currently my main NAS for this reason, but I won’t ever buy a Synology again for my backup NAS

-QNAP: Doesn’t support drive size mixing

Is there anything on the market that supports what I want?

I'm looking for advice on managing my cloud storage. Here’s my current situation:

My PC is running out of storage, and my NAS is failing, so I need to move 50TB of data somewhere until I can replace it.

I’ve got a bunch of empty Mega and Google accounts, plus a few other cloud options.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

I want to split up my data and manually upload it across all my accounts. Each account needs to have encrypted/password-protected folders so only I can access them. I don’t want Google or anyone else snooping and deleting my stuff.

I need a solution that allows me to access all these accounts from a single platform, on Windows and Android. This way, I can find files without having to log into a bunch of different accounts to try and find what I am looking for.

I prefer manually transferring files over automatic syncing to avoid potential synchronization issues

I need a solution that is completely free and has no data transfer limits.

Ideally, I’d like to just open a program or network drive, pick a folder, enter a password, and then see what’s inside. Viewing and adding or removing files like normal.

I tried Rad Drive, but it’s limited by the number of drive letters, and Air Explorer with Cryptomator requires downloading files to view them, which isn’t practical for me

Any suggestions for tools or methods that fit these requirements would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would like to create a portfolio of the best work I do as a social media manager for a sports team this upcoming season (fall).

It’s easy enough to point people to an Instagram page, but Twitter makes it harder to appreciate the scope of good work over long periods of time.

Is there a way to do the following: create a feed of specific, archived Twitter content to showcase the best work from throughout the year

Third party service or method I’ve not thought of? Preferably something better than a list of links inside a Word document, as this wouldn’t show a preview, and it would be slightly time consuming to label each link. Ultimately needs to be something that could be shared with a colleague or future employer which they might actually engage with. Thanks for any ideas!

I have a hard drive that was having trouble opening and playing files. The files would either glitch, slow, freeze or not open at all with the error saying that "the directory did not exist". HDD programs showed errors in "current pending sector count" going from 5 to D.

It would also have trouble transferring the files over to another HDD.

I requested an advanced RMA and started a full format. During this full format, the current pending sector count started going down. Can I still RMA it if the sector count reaches 0?

Hi mates,

My PC has a single 12TB standalone drive and RAID 1 with 2x1,5TB. I store the important data on the RAID 1 and it is now full. I am planning to buy a 22TB and I want to create a second RAID 1 array with the 12TB and the 22TB drive.

Anyone knows if with Intel RST software I can do the creation of a 12TB RAID 1 array, while at the same time allowing the 10TB of unused space on the new drive to be available?

I know that it will allow the creation of a 12TB RAID 1 and I should be able to create this RAID1 from a single drive without losing data. I just don't know if it will allow me to use the remaining space on the larger drive.

A few years ago my google drive and google photos wiped everything out of the blue. All my essays from middle school to university and thousands of photos, gone.

I just found an old iPhone that’s not connected to the internet, and when I opened google drive, all I can see are thumbnails, but everything is there! There are images on both google drive and photos, although they’re different images, on drive I can only see thumbnails while on photos I can see the full image, but it would take forever to select them all to download and I don’t think there’s enough space on the phone to do that.

I tried asking in a google drive forum, and they told me that if the phone connects to internet, everything will be wiped. Is there any way to restore these files? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, just seeing the few thumbnails available made me tear up with memories

I am working on a web crawling project involving approximately 8 million URLs. Based on initial analysis, storing the output will require around 1 TB of space. Currently, I'm using MongoDB on a local server. Are there any online platforms where I can host this database for free, or at a low cost?

Found a Seagate Exos X18 16TB listed as "new" going for 200 EUR on Ebay. The seller is listed as "Digital Emporium Shop" with very good reviews:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/354936203855

Does anyone have any experiences with this seller? Because it seems a bit too good to be true. Surely it's not a new HDD, but with reset SMART data?

I also found he's selling on Amazon, but there it's listed as refurbished.

Would it be better to buy from Ebay or from Amazon, or will this be exactly the same in terms of warranty, delivery, etc.?

I need help with gallery-dl and I saw people post on this subreddit for it.

  1. When downloading from pixiv.net (NSFW link), if I download the post manually I get a full file resolution which is about 10-20MB per image. However, when I use gallery-dl, I get a low resolution and a slightly blurry image that is 3-5MB, both for individual posts and user accounts.
  2. Some images are "blocked" by the R-18 filter and won't download, even though I put a code/token into gallery-dl as instructed by the gallery-dl docs.

Any help or direction on where I can get help would be much appreciated.

Hi Reddit,

I'm considering getting an external SSD and I'm undecided between buying a prebuilt external SSD (such as Crucial X8) or assembling one myself using an internal SSD and an external enclosure like the ASUS ROG Strix Arion. One of my main concerns is the reliability of the case controller, especially in terms of managing the standby mode of the drive.

A few more questions about it:

Can I Update the SSD's firmware with the SSD in the case or I have to put it inside the PC every time?

I'm most concerned about the standby of the drive, I would use it as my main "external drive" so it's always plugged into my PC and I don't want to do anything, just plug in and "forget about it". Because if it's like the HDD enclosure, with tools like crystal disk I can't see the drive directly but I always see the controller of the case's drive, so I think it might be a problem updating the fw in the future (not the worst problem at all, my first priority is reliability for data but..)

Do you have any personal experience you wanna share?

I already tried switching from my 5TB HDD to the Crucial X6 but the experience was awful, the latency was higher than my HDD and I couldn't use it for good, but right now My HDD seems failing so I wanted to switch to an SSD but I wanted to make the right decision

Of course, with a DIY external SSD I can choose a faster ssd but I'm not sure if will fit my use case

Any experience will be appreciated, thank you!

Hi,

I am in the process of upgrading my storage system with a new to me server and netapp DS4243 with an IOM6 Module installed.

Currently, I have two 3,5" SATA Drives installed and both are showing up on my Unraid-System. I have one IOM6 Module and two power supplies installed. But I also tried with just one.

The problem ist that the Netapp shows a warning light on the shelf and the fans are running at what seems max RPM all the time, which means the device is very loud and I do not want to operate it this way. None of the other warning light are on. I tried to do some research on this warning already, but couldn't find any solution.

This was the most informative so far but I need some more help identifying the cause of the warning light. If it's a bad temperature sensor etc., can it be replaced?

Thank you.

I have recently found a hardrive at my lab about to be thrown away. I asked the IT guy if he had any docking station to spare so I could check what's on the drive. It worked perfectly fine. I have a dell XPS, on Windows 11, and I use a USB 3.0 to USB C adapter, because I don't have any USB 3.0 ports on my laptop.

2 days ago I bought my own docking station, which is a SABRENT one (SABRENT USB 3.0 to SATA External Hard Drive Lay-Flat Docking Station for 2.5 or 3.5in HDD, SSD). But now I cannot read the hardrive. I have checked in the device manager and the Sabrent is there. I've tried looking for updates but everyone is up to date. In the drive manager, I've looked at the *unknown* disk detected, tried to initialized it but it says "Request failed due to a serious hardware error on the device" (Echec de la requête en raison d'une grave erreur matérielle de l'appareil, in French). I didn't touch the disk between the moment I've tried it the first time on another docking station but in the same set-up and today. What am I supposed to do to make this work? (I have no idea how anything works I just want to use this hardrive for personnal use).

The drive is a Seagate, ST31500541AS, 1.5TB

EDIT: Yes, everything is plugged in properly. Also someone had the same issues at this link.

Hey everyone,

I've started to hit my storage limit (photos, videos, you name it) and my current storage situation is not great for long term storage (capacity at 4TB). I'm looking to get some large capacity drives (to start my journey) but without breaking the bank.

Been scouring the web, but figured you lovely folks would have the real wisdom.

So, what are your favorite tips to find high capacity drives at a low cost?

  • Are there any retailers you swear by for deals?
  • Should I be considering used drives (if so, where's safe to look?)

There's this small artist that I really like but their blog got deleted. Based on what I could find they didn't post their art anywhere else, so it kind of has to be tumblr. Are there any websites (preferably bot) that archive entire tumblr blogs?

I have to use Windows for several reasons I won't get into here.

I haven't been able to find any software to do this in parallel, everything I see just queue's them up one at a time.

But as I think more into it - is there even any point in doing them in parallel vs sequential? I have the drives connected via a SAS card in IT mode - can I get full write speeds on multiple drive's at once?

If so, any suggestions on Windows software that can do this? I honestly prefer a UI given the amount of drives and so I can check status but if not, I think this command would zero out each drive?

format g: /fs:NTFS /p:0

If it won't be any faster then one by one, I have no problems just throwing them into USB enclosures, it'll take a month or so to do them all, that's ok.
