My dad recently passed away and my mom has a old photo from when he was in middle school, circa 1950's. It's the original photo so it's kind of got these bumps all over it. I tried scanning it with my scanner at 1200 dpi and greyscale, because it is a black & white photo but the bumps in the photo are ultra noticable. I'm trying to get the photo as clear as possible but I'm not really sure what to do to get that result. I have a basic Epson XP446 printer/scanner. I've included the photo here so you can see what I'm talking about regarding the bumps in the photo's texture. If anyone knows of a good free program i can use to clean up the image or maybe if I should use different settings when scanning I would appreciate the help.

Hello,

I realize the specs are about the same and hopefully seagate tweaked some things as they released newer models of the 16TB - what I can't find is anything saying why I'd want a more expensive newer one vs. the older models including the x20 and X22 16TB drive. I'm about to build a new array and would like to know as much as possible before building it. I like seagate - I've got a few hundred and had good luck.

TL;DR My backup external usb drive failed. No data loss though. Move along, I'm just telling a story because my family doesn't provide good audience.

So, my backup has been a 16TB external drive for years. As it was nearly full, I decided to scrap together some parts and make a ZFS backup machine and add some automation.

All was well, I decided to do a manual backup to the external drive to grab some incremental changes before I started a full snapshot receive on the new backup machine.

Fast forward 5 hours, I concluded the external drive was done. A few days too early, but I was already implementing its replacement.

Please, all, return to your previously scheduled programming, and remember, even if you can't do 3-2-1, do something! Backup Drives Matter

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I have a file that I'm trying to open, and it's giving me a bit of a headache. The file has an extension of ".essint" and it's about 3 GB in size. From what I understand, it's some sort of compressed file, similar to a zip file, and it most likely contains a bunch of audio files.

I've tried a few common extraction tools like WinRAR and 7-Zip, but they don't seem to recognize the file format. I also did a bit of searching online but couldn't find much information about ".essint" files.

Has anyone here encountered this file type before or have any idea how I can extract its contents? Any suggestions for tools or methods to try would be greatly appreciated.

Twitter Media Downloader was discontinued.

I'd like for an app or extenstion that works like it. To both

  1. allows me to bulk download ALL images on a twitter profile. In max quality
  2. Automatically sets date of images to date tweet published
  3. If not possible, allows me to customize the naming rule of each file so I can fufill this with a powershell script. So I can include the date published (Most important) as well as the time published, tweet ID, etc. Like below:

Hey all, bit of a novice with all this and searching for answers is proving confusing - I am basically looking for an external SSD to connect to my macbook air to store a lot of FLAC and hi-res music files that I will then copy onto my MicroSDs for my walkman NW-a306, along with some EPUBs and PDFs for my kindle. I have adapters but my ports are USB, the old lightning port, along with an SD card port.

I ideally want 1TB or 2TB, for less than £100. Also open to an external hard drive if it’s not going to hugely impinge on download speed. I am not fussed about stupid quick speeds but also want to download 5 FLAC albums to the drive within a couple of minutes for flexibility as i like to listen to a lot of new music

I have gathered the SanDisk 1TB that is on offer on Amazon at the moment is a big no-no due to wiping problems and have seen Crucial X9 significantly slows down its download speed after it has reached a certain storage (300-400gb?)

Any advice would be great, thanks

Hello there folks,

I been following this Reddit for a while, i enjoy reading informative posts and i was trying to make a decision here. I been running an external 4TB WD Elements for a while now. I use it mostly for storage, but i tend to download and watch the things i downloaded first before i disconnect the drive so, i am planning on getting a 2nd drive thats acts solely as storage.

Would you please help me to make a good decision?

I been reading a lot of info here and there through the posts but i can't really get mind on what i should get. I am not wanting to spend lot of money, under 200$, i want something around 5-6TB whatever the pocket can afford, would you please recommend which external USB drive should i buy? Should i stick to WD? Other brands might be more interesting? Sorry, i am a total newbie here and there is tons of info and its so confusing for me.

Thanks in advance,

Researcher!

EDIT: To put more context to what i am looking for, i will show you what i've found "interesting" so far.

https://www.amazon.es/dp/B07X41PWTY/?smid=AMOTOP2RXDRQV

https://www.amazon.es/Seagate-postconsumo-compatibilidad-Chromebook-STMA5000400/dp/B07VS8QCXC/

If there is anything better around that price range in Europe, please, let me know, i been checking on other brands like Toshiba, Aiolo, UnionSine but i really don't know which one i should stick with.

hello - i've had an issue with my OWC Thunderbay Flex 8 (running Raid 4, previously Raid 5) and need help. Constantly on computer restart (Mac OSX Sonoma, Mac Studio Pro, 64GB ram) Softraid (v8) would alert me that a drive is missing. I've done full rebuilds of the raid array from scratch with full tests/verifying the hard drives. OWC support has confirmed that no one drive is faulty. When i had RAID 5 it would always rebuild itself successfully. Support told me to change to RAID 4, now its not rebuilding itself, says one drive is missing, and i'm scared to restart as i worry a 2nd drive will 'go missing.'

my drives are a mix of WD 10TB Red Plus NAS 5400 WD101EFAX and WD101EFBX WD Red Plus NAS 7200. I realize this may be the issue, but OWC support hasnt mentioned that, and i've had about 5 open cases going back 2 years, when i first had this issue.

here is the lackluster response i'm getting from OWC, when they told me its 'probably' due to the drives using intellipower, and i asked them where is the documentation that says i shouldnt have bought these drives. I was hoping the lack of clarity on which drives to buy at time of purchase might entitle me to some sort of refund at this late stage.

"Asking where this is stated in the documentation is a bit like asking where in the documentation it says not to combine 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM drives or not to combine SSDs with HDDs; it isn't there because it's basic knowledge. "

They are blaming intellipower - but no where is it listed these drives use those sort of power saving features. i have a call out to WD. Anyway - my question - what is the best course of action that might get this fixed with the least amount of money. I am a film and tv editor struggling with lack of work due to the strike and other hollywood issues - i need this array to work but am not getting much work. Should i fight OWC further? or should i buy all new drives? Can i just buy some drives? do i have any case with OWC refunding anything?

Hey Everyone,

I know you all get asked this stuff all the time so apologies. I’ve done some research and just want to make sure I don’t mess anything up. But I was hoping I could get some recommendations for some hard drives and OS for a Hybrid NAS set up. I purchased a 6-Bay Nas from U-Green https://nas.ugreen.com/pages/ugreen-nasync-series and it’s arriving soon. I was hoping to buy some discounted hard drives later this week for Prime Day.

I want to use the NAS for Movies & TV Shows, but also directly connect to my Mac (via thunderbolt 4) for photo and video editing. What is the best blend of noise level and performance for hard drives? Since it will be on my desk noise level is a big concern. From my research, I’ve seen many recommend the WD’s Red Plus as the quietest because the spin at 5400rpm. But when I looked at them, the newer ones, they now say 7500rpm. Is that still the best choice for noise? Or will the performance for editing be too slow? Or would something like this be a better choice? https://www.seagate.com/products/enterprise-drives/exos-x/x-mozaic/

The other question I had was about which OS to put it on it. I’ve seen posts on True NAS and unRaid. I’m looking for the best beginner friendly OS that I don’t have to tinker too much with. Also, would you recommend running Plex or Jellyfin for my media? I know Plex is easier and has more integrations, but Jellyfin has added more features recently. I’m asking because it seems like video editors use Jellyfin to remotely edit and that would be a nice option. I don’t collaborate with others with video editing so I would want it to store and upload files while I travel. Not sure if that’s how Jellyfin works though.

This was the command result:

I have a large number of music files that I would like to apply a grayscale effect or other similar effects to the embedded album art for my music collection. I was hoping someone from here could point me in the right direction. I would like this process to be as automated as possible. I am open to hearing any solutions, however. thanks.

I currently own at least 20 older hard drives ranging from 2.5" 500 GB drives to 3.5" 8 TB drives. I have a syno nas with about 60 TB on it. I backed up a 20 TB volume to one external USB drive. However, I've still got a second 50 TB volume needing backup.

I wanted to utilise these spare drives as a backup solution. I bought two 4bay USB docks from Orico (ORICO USB 3.0 4-Bay Hard Drive... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BJL7SP1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) so I could at least connect 4 or 8 drives at a time.

I also bought some plastic racks to secure them so they are kept together more neatly and then plug them into the docks with SATA and power extension cables. So I can theoretically connect 8 drives over 2 USB ports to provide backup at a time.

I have an old PC that could be used to run some software from and perhaps act as a server of some kind to provide software raid or Microsoft storage spaces.

When I searched the web I saw an app called Nexentastor that could be used to backup to several disks but the free community edition only allows 18 TB of data to be backed up via spanned media. I'm wondering if I could set up several VMs for it so I could back up all the data.

My confusion now is how to connect to them, what form of storage to set them up as (hardware or software raid, zfs, btrfs, ext4, storage spaces, JBOD, etc) and what to use to backup (software like hyper backup, rclone, ccc, etc).

Options I can think of are:

  1. Software raid using the old pc
  2. software storage spaces via windows
  3. some kind of NAS software like OMV or Truenas from my old PC
  4. utilise software such as Nexentastor (or an alternative) to backup sections of data to drives connected via USB to my newer PC or Mac in batches (as I can't confect enough drives at a time to do one large backup - unless I get a data expansion card for the pc and then problem solve supplying enough clean/stable power to the drives, etc)
  5. Install Synology (would it have to be xpenology) to the old PC and set it up as a second NAS to back up my primary nas to via hyperbackup - can this be achieved reliably?
  6. Some other, better method or creative solution???

Bare in mind that if it is the solution requires coding on, for example, Linux then I would need a full, exhaustive guide to get through (and pudding still be able to ask purple for help) as I and that sort of thing don't always agree (no matter how many years I have tried to master Linux and docker, etc) 😂

Hi

what is your recommendation for a downloader of online videos in various websites. I am mostly using sites other than the common ones such as Youtube.

I tried the Videodownloadhelper and it seems good. Before I make a payment for that, I would like to know if there are better alternatives. Paid versions are also ok for me.

For example this site: https://www.vandaaginside.nl/sport/ek-voetbal/videos/bas-stellig-over-penalty-voor-engeland-tegen-nederland-belachelijke-ingreep

https://preview.redd.it/f4zr1sz8n1cd1.png?width=591&format=png&auto=webp&s=52cb048e041b90b3926cb71917403a5f2a3e4f98

Some other extensions that I tried - Video Downloader Professional, M3U8 downloader, Videodownloader plus etc. lists many video links with the name "index" each with less than 1MB of size.  that doesn't contain anything.

They don't list a single video file. Videodownloadhelper does but I am still not sure if it is the best.

What would you recommend (other than Videodownloadhelper) or do you think Videodownloadhelper is good enough that I shouldnt worry about anything else.

Hey friends, I am a student and preparing for exams. I got to know a private group where I could find lectures of my course and I really needed them. I was invited by link by some friends and we are not the admins. As the group is private and I cannot forward or download these lectures. I want to know is there any method to send those videos from this group to my saved messages. I don't have so much space in my android and time to download all of them to upload again. I want to forward them on my cloud. I tried some things but it didn't work out because of the restrictions. I want to know is there any way I can save those videos in my saved or any private group and have these on another cloud so if these originals gets copyright then I can watch them and have them and not deleted from my messages. Please help because I can not afford these but I want to save these.

I wrote an online crawler that stores videos from youtube, bitchute, newgrounds, rumble and some others. My plan was to create a video search engine and of course add more sites. Anyway that didn't work out.

If someone is interested in this data let me know how I can transfer it to you. It's somewhere around 45GB total. This includes channel information, video data like (url, likes, views, description, title, channel).

Thanks

I found Their 12tb drive looks great but it looks quite cheap for 12tb ($88) and was wondering if there is any other place I should look (preferably on eBay) or if these refurbished ones are fine for casual NAS use.
