I want to add more NVMe drives to my system. I'm looking at getting an HBA card for my 16x slot, and moving my too-large 4080 down to the middle 16x slot on my motherboard.

Does my motherboard need to support bifurcation to work with an HBA like the HBA 9500-8i when used with NVMe or u.2 drives?

It backs up the wiki on my rasberry pi to a Intel Nuc sitting next to it once a month.

hi everyone. i’m new to data hoarding and was wondering if anyone has a centralized way of exporting personal data from platforms like notion, linkedin, twitter, gmail, etc. i find it quite annoying to export from all these platforms separately, sometimes in unusable file formats, and am wondering if others have faced this issue as well.

To keep it short, I have a server running on Windows 10. I’m happy with it, and it does what I need for the most part. Migrating that machine to unRaid is not fiscally an option.

That said, there are aspects of unRaid that are appealing to me. Is it possible to build an unRaid NAS/DAS that can be accessed by my Widows machine for file transfer/file access? Or are they incompatible? I’d want it to essentially show as a single “drive” for sake of adding it to an existing Plex server. That way I’d have the storage management features from unRaid for new data, without having to migrate my existing server (which I realistically can’t do).

Thanks!

Trying out irfanview and its really clunky and hate the layout. What are better lightweight photo viewers for windows that are similar to windows photoviewer?

I'm wondering if there are any backplanes cases/setups where where it's just the backplane and HDD's (and PSU, obviously), where an external cable connects to the backplane vs an external cable to a PCIe card to the backplane.

If that doesn't make sense, imagine a server back where the front part (backplane/HDD's) is a separate unit from the back part (mobo/etc). I have a nice server running already, but am curious about getting an HBA card with external connectors to run connect up more HDD's. Current case natively supports up to 12 HDD + 4 SSD, and with an adapter, 2x5¼ drives converted to 3x3½ bays, and another 4 SSD's in a 3rd 5¼ slot. So plenty of room there, but might need more. Don't want to go case shopping to only get maybe a couple of more HDDs to fit. Rather, be able to have a smaller case (smaller due to not needing a mobo so that space isn't included) that can hold only necessary boards to connect to a bunch of HDD's.

I hope that makes sense.

If such cases exist, what are they called or often referred to so that I can research them?

I read these guides on how to digitize VHS tapes, but I have questions regarding my setup.

I have VHS tapes and 8mm tapes from family videos from 30 years ago. We have about 30 VHS tapes and 15 8mm tapes.

I own a: Sony Trinitron FV310 CRT TV Memorex Camcorder 16-855 Canon G1500 camcorder

Tapes: VHS tapes Supertape 8mm HG-120 cassette Maxell 8mm video cassette

With my setup, what's the best way to digitize these 8mm tapes and VHS tapes considering my setup? People talk about full-frame TBC, but I'm not 100% sure what that is, and what the recommended devices are. The same for a VHS player.

Thanks in advance for the help!

In the past, I was able to get data from an instagram user using the url :

https://www.instagram.com/graphql/query/?query_hash=f2405b236d85e8296cf30347c9f08c2a&variables={%22id%22:5815459574,%22first%22:50}

But today I ran into an issue. There is no data anymore. This is what it says:

{"data":{"user":{"edge_owner_to_timeline_media":{"count":428,"page_info":{"has_next_page":true,"end_cursor":""},"edges":[]}}},"extensions":{"is_final":true},"status":"ok"}

The "edges" array is empty and "is_final" is true, even though "count" is 428 and the user has posts. Is anyone else also having issues with instagram?

right now I just store micro-SD cards and label them with what are on them, but I have zero idea what any of the terminology you guys use mean. Is there a youtube video or other that can help me? (I read the wiki already and it did not help)

Hello, all! WFdownload has been a lifesaver for backing up my Pinterest images, but for some of my boards I really need the accompanying info for each item, such as title and the url it links to. My recipes board, for example is pretty much useless if I don't have the link to the recipe, or even what the dish is called (all the saved images have names that are just a long string of letters and numbers). Like one saved image is titled "Chicken Piccata with Lemon Sauce," and the link is https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/chicken-piccata-with-lemon-sauce/ on the pinterest board, but I only have the image named 6610452f4665f654cc9dff512e60173e.jpg in my Recipes backup folder.

Someone on another board said that WFdownloader could download that info via json file, but I'm not seeing how to do it. Any help would be appreciated!

I backed up one of my libraries to a 12TB HDD, shut down my PC, connected a 16TB HDD using the same cable and USB port, and powered on my PC. Windows Explorer initially recognized the drive as the 12TB HDD that was connected prior to the PC shutdown. I checked disk manager and saw that the 16TB drive was corrupted.

The 16TB drive is a new Iron Wolf that I used for a backup last week, then kept it on the shelf before I reconnected it today.

Any idea how this happened? I would imagine it has something to do with Windows misidentifying the drive, but I’d like to know how to prevent that in the future. Maybe use a different USB port after swapping drives?

Been looking for a DAS for a while now, I've also made a post some time ago, but I'm not sold yet. How come there isn't anything when it comes to DAS?

Mainly 2 bay, sometime 4, a couple of 5, but no other options for 6 or 8 bays other than those I've posted. And they cost a lot as well. I mean, for a SATA board and 2 fans it seems quite a lot honestly. QNAP used to have a 15% discount for first buy and newsletter subscription, now it went down to 10% first and now is 5%.

With a similar price you can get a decent NAS that offers more and, at least, is somehow justified in the price department due to HW cost. Why every DAS or JBOD encloure cost so much then when you just need a simple USB and SATA controller?

I want to configure a Terramaster D5 with one large RAID 5 array split into multiple lettered drives in Disk Manager on one Windows system, then move it to another Windows system. I understand having to install the RAID driver and the RAID Manager Pro SW on the new system, but want to make sure it will see the RAID config, and Windows Disk Management will see the drive configuration and all the data. Anyone done this? Any problems or tips?

Thx.

I have a NAS server and i want to buy two disks with raid 1

Ultrastar costs $20, and I don't want to have the same disks. If one Disk failed then don't fail both at the same time :)

Disk1: Manufacturer Recertified Ultrastar DC HC520 12TB

Disk2: Manufacturer Recertified Seagate Exos X16 12TB 7.2K

Hi, need a bit of advice after researching, as it's a relatively new field for me.

I have a lot of Roms, photos, videos etc usual stuff to store, nothing critical.

Price per TB of new storage in the UK is disgusting, so I've found a very good recertifield seller of 3.5 business drives I. E seagate exos in >12tb which work out under £10 (~$12.80) per tb, with a 3 year warranty as standard.

They won't be continually running, so I was looking at an open docking station, then when not in use, in an anti static bag in a shockproof case. Maybe used once or twice a week. Are these types of drives designed to be swapped in / out, and stored unpowered for a period of time? Unless someone else has a better idea.. This is what I'm leaning too.

Hope you can advise, thanks.

Was backing up some folders to iDrive, and we lost power due to a storm. Is there a possibility of data loss, or would any files still in progress have been aborted?

Long story short, bought an HDD, seller is a moron packaging the HDD in 1cm of padding into a plastic bag, and carrier's an animal and threw the package against a stone wall inside the gate (1m height and distance approx) ,since the HDD specs says 250G I'm curious on how to make sense of that non-SI unit and to at least approximately convert into an usable value.

Should I send the drive back? Ask for partial refund?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone pick up any of these drives? Thinking about grabbing a few for a primary zfs pool for nvr frigate storage, media etc. etcc. and moving smaller disks to backup pool. Have a few 20TB from them that have worked without issue so far. Just not sure on the model here.

I've had one of these in 120gb for a long time. I think it was one of the first "thumb drive" type SSDs. I want something bigger, but I've yet to see someone come out with anything faster. Closest is the samsung extreme pro but it seems still slightly slower.

Looking at changing out the guts for my NAS - currently have a 6600k and considering an onboard N305 from CWWK. This is just a Plex box running unRAID.

The biggest gain I see are gains are to ways:

  1. Better SATA organization - current ITX board has angled headers and the CWWK has vertical, easier to access if needing to replace a SATA cable
  2. Quick sync - I don’t run many 4Ks but the ones I do are jittery - also, looking at ErsatzTV and dont think the onboard 6600k would handle that well without QuickSync acceleration.
  3. power consumption, IIRC, 6600k is 90w and N305 sips at 15W.

Not sure on other specs or if this w old be an overall downgrade, don’t typically use the built server processors, just consumer grade. Just curious what folks reactions and thoughts are.

Hello,

What's the best use for my hard drives? I have the following:

  • Portable HDD 5TB
  • Portable SSD 4TB
  • Thunderbolt SSD Enclosure 4TB

Right now I'm it for the following:

  • Portable HDD 5TB - Back up for computer files/pictures I've taken.
  • Portable SSD 4TB - Media SSD to use with Nvidia Shield TV with music videos, movies, cartoons, etc.
  • Thunderbolt SSD Enclosure 4TB - Brand new. Haven't decided what to do yet. Was thinking of using this as a back up for my picture files an maybe edit from the drive. Keep it connected?

Should I use the old portable HDD 5TB for media and cartoons?

How should I use my drives?

Thank you! :)
