As part of the Apple Music subscription they have a radio station called Apple Music 1 which has a lot of shows hosted by artists. I'd like to back these up in bulk. Does anyone know a way to rip them faster than realtime?

My 2 tb wd passport is only 3 momths old. It's making very loud and quick clicking sounds. Been using the HD without any issues until today. I was watching a movie on my Sony Bravia tv, then the video stopped playing and a couple seconds later the clicking started. The HD was warm too. Disconnected and reconnected the HD a minute later, played the movie again, the same thing happened about 20 minutes later. (I previously owned a 2 tb wd my passport ultra, which worked brilliantly with my tv for 8 years or so. Then the same clicking issue happened, it stopped getting recognized by my laptop as well. So I got this new one.....) Now I'm using the HD on a newer Bravia tv and It's working without issues.

How can I make the HD work with my old Bravia tv?

Hi, I decided to buy a Seagate hdd refurbished, I did some testing before start using it. I used Victoria software, there are apparently no bad blocks but there are some slow ones. Does this mean the drive is not in a good condition or it is normal? Picture.

I think the green/orange blocks were checked in the last part of the test, for example yesterday night before going to bed there was no green and no orange blocks, not sure if this means anything or not.

I am familiar with zfs but not even close to be considered an ~~expert~~ someone to discuss with

I know raidz2 and unraid with dual parity are sort of the same but do it differently. I also know that there are limits to zfs for the best performance but lets keep that out

My question is this, using both raidz2 and dual parity via unraid. If they both have the same number if disks, and same size who actually has the most storage capacity?

Getting back up and running today with a new to me HP Z2 G4 tower. Thankfully all my drives appear to have survived the surge that fried my last server.

The z2g4 only has 2-3.5" bays. I do have 2 open 5.25" bays. Looking around I see a ton of options available.

I don't need hot swap Would like to be able to use 2.5 or 3.5 drives.

Can anyone recommend any options and/or brands?

Any brands to avoid?

Our company has over 200tb of archival footage we would like to keep, currently stored entirely on external drives dating back to 2013 and then past that it’s on Mini DV or Betacam mostly.

Was looking at tape as it would seem on the surface to be the cheapest option but being hard to compress this footage I’m not so sure. A JBOD would be nice but cost of hard drives is insane really.

Mostly a nice to have but we would spend the spend it if it made sense (like 2-4k maybe?)

To clarify: this is old footage from past projects likely never to be used. So, no offsite backups required or anything to that level. Just looking for options like Yes use LTO6 or whatever

I want to back up some DVDs that are considered rare as they are out of print.

I still have AnyDVD installed but they are now out of business.

I thought of using https://www.xreveal.com/ with a keyfile I found on the internet. (No I will not share where to find it. I don't want the sub banned)

Would MakeMKV be my best bet?

I'm setting up a new-to-me 5820, and I can't figure out exactly how the flex bays work.

I have the OS set up on a M.2 SSD in a PCIe slot, and I just bought two 8TB HDDs to use in the lower SATA flex bay. Sorry for the noob question, but how exactly does hot-swapping work? I assumed you'd eject the disk in the same way as a removable drive (in the system tray) but neither of the drives show up there, they're shown as internal disks.

I'm a little hesitant to just yank the drives while they're spinning, so is there a way I can make them "removable" or is there another way to do this? I'd rather not have to shut down every time I want to swap.

I'm on Win11, the hardware supports hot-swapping, and the only other detail I can think of that would be relevant is that in the bios the SATA is set to AHCI instead of RAID. Apparently these computers normally come with RAID set as default, but mine (used) didn't. There's nothing important on the HDD's yet so I can still switch them to RAID, but I don't want a RAID array, I just want individual drives.

Thanks in advance!

I'd like to build an NVMe SSD based NAS, and the main challenge seems to be to get enough m.2 slots.

The best option I've found so far is to get 2 slots from the mainboard (for system partition RAID1), and 8 slots from a Sonnet M.2 8x4 card (for a data RAIDZ2).

Only downside is that this card is $800 and requires an x16 slot, is anyone aware of other options? Eg 4 m.2 slots in a x4 card?

I purchased a blu ray burner some years ago and I can't find any good disc to burn my data. Some people here are complaining that Verbatim M disc are just cheap organic discs and many other brands are doing the same. I have also came across Ritek 100GB Blu ray with label claiming it as inorganic disc. I can share the label picture if anyone wants. Please help to find me a inorganic blu ray disc.

I've seen similar questions asked here before. My wife and I are looking to digitize all the physical photos and slides owned by both sides of our family. This will be a MASSIVE undertaking. We are also considering doing this as a small business after the project for our family is done. So, we're looking for suggestions on scanners. We want the best scanner for making the task as automated, quick, and easy as it can be, yielding the best quality images. Any suggestions for photo, slide, or negative scanners?

I just bought a brand new MG09ACA18TE 18TB drive and did a full sequential read test with Victoria.

The test came back with a few sectors in the 1 second range, should I be concerned?

I currently have a pair of drives in RAID-0 for my "files that I care about" drive. This is backed up nightly to an external HDD onsite and another external HDD offsite.

I just realized that my "files that I care about" drive doesn't need to be fast, I just want it to be replicated. I do, however, want a fast partition for media streaming.

So I was thinking of using the existing RAID-0 array for media that doesn't need to be backed up - think common movies, music etc that can be easily replaced if it disappears. I was going to move one of my external backups into the server for a RAID-1 pair for "important" files, then also have an external HDD offsite as an additional backup.

So current setup:

5TB+5TB RAID0 + 14TB onsite external HDD + 10TB offsite external HDD

New setup:

Unimportant media: 5TB+5TB RAID0

Important files: 10TB+10TB RAID1 onsite, 14TB offsite

The only problem with this move is that if there is some mistake, say a rogue script that deletes all of my files, now I only have one backup, since RAID1 would instantly delete the files on both onsite drives.

Instead of doing RAID1 + offsite, would I be better off with nightly backups both onsite and offsite instead? That would give me a little more protection from files being deleted by some mistake, but it would add a little bit of staleness to the backup and a slight bit of complexity by having to run that backup job (but it's not a big deal, just rsync + cron)

Which do you prefer?

Or should I just buy one more disk so I have RAID1+ onsite nightly + offsite nightly?

Hello guys,

I'm trying to download the images from this website Albums By Sharpshooter Collectibles - ImageEvent. It contains more galleries, like this one here WWF / WWE P-Series Promo Photos (imageevent.com). Each gallery has thumbnails, you have to click on the thumbnail and then select "Original" at "Other Sizes" in the bottom of the page in order to see the image at full resolution. Then, if you try to download the image, it says "Right-click is disabled" so I used an "Allow Right-Click" extension in order to download the image. The thing is that there are around 1000 images. Is there any other way to do that other than manually saving each image individually?

P.S. Yes, I did search this subreddit and I did found the post from 2 years ago about the same website: Saving Entire ImageEvent Pages in Original Res : , but it's no help at all, because the only pertinent answer says that I should select all the images and then click the Download tab, well of course there is no Download tab.

I also tried to use some extensions or software that downloads files in bulk from websites, but they only extracted the thumbnails, they never got to the full resolution images, even if I've set them to explore the website at deeper levels.

Please help, guys. Thank you in advance.

L.E. About the extensions and software that I've already tried, it's the Internet Download Manager, the Image Downloader extension for Edge and the DownThemAll add-on for Firefox.

I have some Easystore drives. These drives have their own power supply, but they always disconnect and have been doing so from Ventura to now Sonoma. Doesn't matter if they're directly connected or to a hub.

Things I've tried:

  • Turning off the energy saver settings for those drives
  • The utility/app "keep driving spinning"
  • Amphetamine the app.

The only way these drives stay active is with the app "virtual dj" open. This hogs up about 4gb of RAM though so it's not a good solution. Also, weird that other apps which access folders on those drives won't keep the drives connected. Any ideas what might work with low RAM?

I have an opportunity to purchase some enterprise SAS hard drives that have been pulled from salvaged Dell servers. The 12TB drives are $70/ea and come with no warranty. There are two options:

Seagate 12TB Exos X18 (ST12000NM006J) Made in Thailand

Toshiba 12TB MG09 (MG09SCA12TEY) Made in Phillipines

I'm a bit of a layman when it comes to drive specs. Both brands of drives have under 1000 power on hours. The Toshiba ones have a MFG date of 2022 and 2023. I can't find the MFG date on the pictures of the Seagates (Edit: Seagates are all 2022). They are all relabeled Dell drives and come with no manufacturer warranty. The price is great but I'm not sure if either drive is a better bet than the other? I'm leaning towards the Toshibas since the MFG date is clearly listed. I'm probably overcomplicating the decision but any advice is appreciated. I will likely be buying 4 of them

Edit: The seller is willing to do 4 for $250 on the Seagates just to get rid of his remaining inventory. Currently leaning towards those

I am backing up all my files (FINALLY! And they are organized!) and I am wondering if it is a good idea to transfer the backups I loaded onto a USB, onto an external drive. I don’t want to corrupt any files from transferring from USB. I probably should’ve put them on the external drive first, and then put them on the USB. I want to have the backups stored on both storages. It’s taking forever (of course) to transfer from my hard drive onto the USB, and I’d expect the same transferring onto the external drive, it would just be easier to select everything in the USB and move it over as opposed to finding all the folders again. Also, would it take the same amount of time to transfer from USB to external drive as it would from hard drive to external drive? Thank you!!!

EDIT: I disabled the Ordered File Placement plugin, re-enabled "File placement rules respect real-time file placement limits set by the balancing plug-ins", and ran the balancing. Not much changed. I then re-enabled the Ordered File Placement plugin - the red/yellow limit flags appeared, but it no longer says it needs to rebalance.

I'm setting up DrivePool + snapRAID in Windows 11 Pro.  I'm transferring my files into my pool right now.  I have disks D0, D1, D3.  (parity will be on D2)

Sequence of events:

  1. Disabled automatic balancing and file/folder duplication.
  2. Enabled "Balancing plug-ins respect file placement rules".
  3. Set a File Placement rule on my new Photos folder to only allow storing those on D3 (unchecked the other drives).
  4. Copied my photos into the pool. They reside on D3, as expected.
  5. Copied a few GB of other files into the pool. These were distributed across D0 and D1.
  6. I decided I wanted to fill D0 first, so I stopped the transfer and enabled & configured the Ordered File Placement plugin to write files in order of priority: D0, D1, D3.  I also selected "Only control new file placement".
  7. I proceeded to copy the rest of the files. So now I have some files on D1, but mostly on D0 and D3.

On the main screen of DrivePool, the drives are showing little red & orange arrows that indicate the following limits:

| Disk | New duplicated file placement limit | New un-duplicated file placement limit | |

|

|

| | D0 | 80 % | 80 % | | D1 | 80 % | 0 % | | D3 | 0 % | 0 % |

There is also a note icon next to each drive. Hovering over it shows "File placement balancing rules need to be applied."

So, I disabled "File placement rules respect real-time file placement limits set by the balancing plug-ins", thinking that would resolve the apparent conflicts, but it still wants to rebalance.

I still have the File Placement rule set up on my Photos folder to allow only placing those files on D3.  This is an obvious conflict with the Ordered File Placement plugin, but I assumed my selections above would override/reconcile that.

If I click the "Re-balance" button at the bottom of the main window, what will happen to the Photos that are currently stored on D3?

Hello,

I don't know if this is the right subreddit for this question, but I hope someone will be able to help me here.

I bought a HDD from Amazon a couple of weeks ago to store some old TV shows/movies. However, when I was trying out the device I noticed I also copied my phones backup folder which has all of my personal data on it (like copies of IDs). Since I wasn't satisfied with the HDD and was going to return it, I deleted everything from it. But mind you, I only learned that day that just deleting the files from the HDD doesn't mean they're actually deleted. I then installed the Seagate Toolkit software, because read that the factory reset setting and the crypto erase setting would permanently delete everything. After I deleted the files from the drive, I (in this order:) performed a factory reset, a crypto erase, a quick reformat it and a factory reset again. Then I returned the drive.

In the back of my mind I know that everything should be gone, but I just can't stop thinking about it. I contacted Seagate and they said by crypto-erasing it I did in fact get rid of everything, but I was wondering if crypto-erasing it after removing the files from the HDD messed the process up or something. Anyone have some knowlede about this?

TLDR: is crypto-erasing, resetting to factory settings and quick formatting a Seagate One Touch HDD enough to delete evrything from the drive if all files were already removed from it?
