From what I can see from many attempts to search for a solution, I cannot find a viable one. This also seems to be a well known problem. I have most of my PC backed up, and every time a drive letter changes, or a file is moved, it is re-uploaded. I'm attempting to organize many old backups, and files, and phone rips, etc. while also using IDrive to make sure if something is accidentally deleted or a deduplicator matches two files incorrectly, I have a backup just in case. This is somewhat pointless if the backup on Idrive is more cluttered, duplicated, and scattered than my original directory tree. Is there any solution available other than Archive Cleanup (because I would lose the very files I'm concerned might be lost before i realize they are gone)? I thought I saw a way to change the drive letters or file locations in IDrive, but I wasn't able to find the options to do this on the web version or Windows11 version. I understand if "IDrive isn't for you then, no way to do this" is the answer, and i suspect that it might be. As far as I can tell my best solution is to compare directory sizes and number of files and manually delete items from Idrive, or just let the whole mess sit there and slog through it if i realize im missing something.

Hello everyone, I am hosting my homelab and I have a 2 copy of the data in 1 device (the data itself and a borg backup) but I also want a cloud backup in case I destroy or get destroyed. I can't pay for the cloud backup, so here am I am cheaping out in my backup, what could go wrong... I know that it is bad but I either have a not so reliable backup or no backup or at all, I am not storing anything that important anyways so.

Is mega.nz a good option? What you recommend? Rclone backup supported is a needed feature.

First post here, for a while now I’ve wanted to find a way to store photos (not an insane amount, about 200GB) long term, but I’m not in the place to configure a tower in RAID or anything. Is buying an external hard drive and backing everything up there safe, or should I go about purchasing two and copying it to both? I won’t be doing frequent backups so it’s not necessary to have anything constantly running and making sure both drives are exactly the same.

Hello,

Can any of you suggest backup software that can take a connected hardrive, search for a certain file type across the drive, copy it to a USB stick or External HDD but also keep the same file folder/hierarchy as the original drive?

Hi!

Someone told me to ask the people of this subreddit about this issue:

A bunch of very old OBS recordings have been accidentally deleted by an uninstaller for a game I've played for a few hours a couple of years back.

I've paid for iMyFone D-Back for Windows and used the software to get back the deleted files, however all I was able to get back are the corrupted mp4 files that go blank when opened in VLC Media Player. I've got my money back btw.

Is there anything I can do to potentially get back these old recordings? Even if the audio is the only thing that can be salvaged, that would be enough.

Im looking to save HDD/SDD space on my desk. And I want to dock them for use of backup when needed. I have already bought a Orico 3549C3 (4 bay dock).

And that model is giving me nothing but bugs and headaches. I been going back and forth figuring out what's wrong as well as contacting Orico about it. The problem is I'm not getting data transfer speeds as advertised. For example, is expect SATA 5 (100MBs) speeds minimum from 3.5" HDDs. And I expect SATA 6 or above (300-500MBs) speeds from an SSD.

However, weeks testing this I literally get random speeds. That is mainly 20MBs from both HDDs and SSDs. Which took me 2 days to backup a 2TB of data. So I'm returning this.

I want to know if you guys never deal with what I went through. What dock bay is great to have and reputable? I'm looking for either a 4 or 5 bay. I do not care about RAID or NAS. I don't need them I don't know how to use them. And I only want to use the drives individually. Unless w RAID I have the option to turn it off as normal use.

I looked into Yottamaster and Terramaster as alternatives and walking away from Orico. Sebrent was also a consideration.. any advice?

EDIT: the Orico cost me $150. But I'm returning for a refund. Looking at Yotta, Terramaster, sabrent are looking to be a bit higher but I'm okay with that. They look to be around $200 -300.

Seeing if anyone has a dock bay with absolutely no issues and recommends.

I’m looking to store a small amount of data that I don’t want on a cloud. I guess I have a couple of choices. I could use the flash drive. I could use a memory card like from a camera or I could use an external hard drive. I could use all three but out of these choices, which one will last the longest without tending because I just want to put it aside and forget it.

I've acquired a website, and unfortunately the previous owners killed the website and don't have the images, they have everything else though. So, I wanted to use Way Back Machine Downloader on Ruby to export all the images. However, when I tried it failed, and I think it was because all the images were hosted on a seperate website, just with a random CDN domain which when I try and archive that, it comes up with nothing.

If I see the website in archive.org the images do load, so it can pull them, is there something I need to add to my command to specifically target those images?

I need to test some second hand drives and was wondering whether there are any alternatives to badblock? I specifically need to be able to pause, shut down and resume on a different day. Does this exist?

Hi guys for the purpose of sharing online some MP3s without doxxing myself (lol), how do I strip all metadata? And what I want to know is, if I open those files after I strip the metadata will windows or the software (let's say windows media player or vlc) add new metadata related to my PC or user in some way?

I already stripped I think all of it with a python script made with ChatGPT, such that my pc asked if they were safe files because it couldn't find from where they came, but I don't have any experience on this and once they're out they're out and I don't wanna mess up.

I'm asking here because nobody knows data like people here. I lurk and learn a lot from you guys. Thank you bye!

Edit: I thought I was dealing with professionals... When I say metadata I mean data that connects the file in any way to the device, who cares about the mp3 tags in the context of privacy and anonimity!

Currently I am running a mini PC with N100 CPU and 8gb ram hooked up to a 5 bay sabrent DAS. Running Ubuntu Server with CasaOS and it's been great all year.

I was learning a bit as I went and am currently running about 20-25 containers. I feel like having all my eggs in one basket isn't ideal nor is this as powerful as I'd like for all the containers I'm using. Plus now that I know what I want to do I want to start fresh.

Primary task is Home Assistant, Emby and *arrs but now I have a bunch of other cool things running which I like like Immich,

I bought a 2nd N100 mini PC on sale with 12GB ram, was thinking of doing an entire redo of my server set up.

I purchased a few new 18tb hard drives and actually want to set up some redundancy. Currently just using a bunch of disks (one large for tv shows, another for movies and an SSD for photos and documents) but the media ones are getting full.

I am debating between Unraid and OpenMediaVault and setting up an array with my drives with either 1 or 2 parity drives.

Server 1: 12gb ram 512gb ssd (new one) https://store.chuwi.com/products/larkbox-x-2023 Bought for $130 CAD last month.

Server 2: 8gb ram 256gb ssd https://www.newegg.ca/p/2SW-003Z-00005?Item=9SIBFJMJ7B3286 Bought for $150 in December.

Scenario 1:

Server 2 hooked up to the DAS, running either unraid or omv. Server 1 running all my containers since it has more ram. Linked via 2.5gb switch and ethernet ports for speed.

Scenario 2:

Server 1 hooked up to Das running OMV or Unraid, but also hosting Home Assistant, Emby and *arrs and leaving server 2 for all my other containers, messing around and other projects.

Scenario 3:

Put everything on server 1 and just use my old one (server 2) for something else entirely.

Debating also between unraid and OMV and leaning towards snapraid on OMV unless someone can provide some insight here. I have other drives with data I like that I can just pop in as needed.

Ordered 1 20tb for parity and 2 18tb for storage. Currently have a 20tb, 12tb and 8tb that I can move to the array and then once moved I can use the 20tb as a spare incase one dies and add the 12 and 8 to the array since I have 5 bays. I want to use the nvme SSD as cache, docker storage on both servers.

Any advice? Much appreciated!

Hey guys. Yesterday my wonderful ADATA S102/16GB USB 3.0 PRO had died on me after long years of work (I can't even remember when I bought it).

Anyway, I need to buy a new one. Mainly for everyday work, documents, large video files etc. I'm considering:

  • Samsung bar plus 32gb
  • SanDisk Cruzer Blade 32GB
  • SanDisk Extreme PRO USB 3.1

Do you have any opinions on this models? Could you please advice me?

Recently, I've been attempting to save some MP3 music files. Previously, I used alltomp3 and it worked well. But today it's not functioning. I searched it and found so many page said alltomp3 is dead. However, since the website is still accessible and other paid music downloader like wondershare tunefab have updated their review pages this year, and filehippo updated their application file in June 2024, I'm uncertain whether all to mp3 still work or just dead.

I am so confused. I tried on my 2 PC, no one can work. If anyone could share the current state of alltomp3 org?

I noticed a bit ago that the ability to download videos on OnlyFans using inspect element has been blocked.

Is there another way? Has anyone tried?

Hi all,

Over the years, I've accumulated a massive amount of personal data—books, photos, documents, old DOS programs/games, various files from old systems, and a lot of source code (I was a developer for a long time). While I started with Dos/Windows, I've been using Linux for over 20 years, and for the last ~15 years, it's been my primary desktop environment.

All of this data currently resides on a single ZFS partition, totaling around 8TB. There are probably a lot of duplicates (especially of photos, some old music etc.), and I'm looking for a way to organize everything effectively. I fully understand that I can't automate the entire process because many files and directories can't just be "sorted" by type. I'll need to set up specific folders for work documents, and other categories.

What I'm looking for is software that can help me transition from an unstructured drive to a fully organized system. Given the size (8TB), this isn't a task for "one day," so I need software that can keep track of what has already been organized and what remains to be done.

I hope someone here understands what I'm looking for and can suggest a solution.

I have a Dell PERC H200 Raid controller installed in my homelab server. It gets detected and shows up in BIOS, buy when I enter the configuration I see no disks attached. There are in fact two disks connected but somehow they don't get shown/detected by the controller.

I have an Inter-Tech IPC 4U-4410 case with hot-swap bays. The backplate for these bays have SATA connectors, so I connected the Dell controller with SAS to 4x SATA cable to the two bays with the disks. The bays themselves support both SATA and SAS and in fact the two disks are SAS disks. The led indicators on the bays go on when I boot the server (probably only indicating power is provided to the disks in there).

Could I be dealing with a compatibility issue? As far as I have read I believed I could connect and get disks working this way, but I am starting to doubt this now.

Looking forward to what you guys think :)

I noticed internal SSD's seem much cheaper and fit my needs better offering low cost for less than 400 gb for redundancy of storing photos. I currently have all my photos on iCloud, A 2 tb external hard drive and a SD card.

Should I buy one of these and this adapter? (Prices in Canadian Dollars)
