I have found a website that show the top 100 songs for a given week. I want to get this for EVERY week going back as far as they have records. Does anyone know where to get these records?

I need portable external HDDs for the convenience and affordability. It doesn't matter how big they physically are.

I've read and seen recommendations that seagate drive are good cuz they are "shuckable", which in my understanding means that if something goes wrong and the drive can't be read due to some USB connection issues, you can remove the external shell and (follow a difference process to access your files) so I'd like to have that option.

I've also read Toshiba drives aren't great and the wiki says they have terrible customer service.

So I guess I'm down to WD and Seagate. Can you recommend/share an Amazon link about what would be suitable for a 2 TB "decent" CMR external for around $70-80 if it exists?

I do delete and transfer files relatively often so CMR is probably better, in my understanding.

Hello,

after reading a lot of your info, I got to the point to replace all my dozens of tiny HDDs with a few big bois.

I am located in CZ/EU, so Serverpartsdeals and GoHDD are out, since duties and VAT make them not worth it, especially with shipping back in case of failure.

I am deciding between several refurbished HDDs that come with 2 year warranty, but still cannot decide which ones to pick. Sadly Backblaze data doesn´t contain some of them, since they are OEM drives and I do not know how much they differ between the production runs - difference in the last number/letter from the data in Backblaze.

Could you give me tips/help decide which ones to choose? My plan is to get 3-4 drives over the next 2-3 months, for Raidz1(or something else you recommend). It will store mostly not "critical" data, media, not family photos etc, those are and will be backed up elsewhere in multiple copies. But it might land there as one of the copies in some time.

I have found these with 2year warranty - manufacturer refurbished:

HGST HUH721212ALE601 12TB - 3218 Kč/128,7€ 10,7€/TB

Seagate ST12000NM000D 12TB - 3036 Kč/121,4€ 10,1€/TB

Seagate Exos 12TB X16 ST12000NM000G - 3130 Kč/125,2€ 10,4€/TB

Seagate Barracuda Pro 12TB ST12000DM0007 - 3241 Kč/129,6€ 10,8€/TB

Seagate ST14000NM000D 14TB - 3621 Kč/144,8€ 10,3€/TB

Seagate Exos X22 ST14000NM000E 14TB - 3797 Kč/151,9€ 10,8€/TB

Which ones would you pick, or wouldn´t even consider? 16TB versions are getting into 11,3€/TB territory, so I didn´t include them.

Thank you

Hi guys,

Since I was a kid I really liked using the usb plug and go style portable hardrives and SSD which do not require a wall plug.

I have been using a VectoTech 8TB External SSD USB-C Portable Solid State Drive (USB 3.1 Gen 2) | 3D NAND Flash | Rapid.

https://www.amazon.com.au/VectoTech-Rapid-External-USB-C-Portable/dp/B08HGH9HK6

Currently I am looking for a portable SSD replacement that has greater storage than 8TB.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hello,

I picked up a Seagate 20TB Exos drive from SPD. The UDMA_CRC_Error_Count value is 1, is that a problem?

For Windows, I know that a file can be put into multiple folders without using the extra space of copies by using symbolic links. Apparently the same thing can be achieved on Android if it's a rooted device, but the symbolic links are not compatible between Windows and Android.

I use Syncthing to sync my folders between Windows and Android and what I want to achieve is that the symbolic links created from windows should also automatically work on Android, and vice verca. Is there some kind of way to achieve this despite the incompatibility, or maybe a completely different approach?

pc in question

I have a Lenovo m700 sff

I have an HBA to connect 5 3.5" SAS drives to it and have improvised some ways to plug them all in but I am looking for a more permanent solution, ideally something that "slots" into the exterior chassis or sits on top of/beside it. I have both a dremel and 3d printer and I am not afraid to use them but ideally do not wish to mangle the case too much. Budget is micro (<40USD) and I want to keep things as small and simple as possible.

Does anyone have any ideas or products that can make it possible to safely and conveniently plug in 5 SAS (not sata) drives into a small OEM pc like this?

I've received hard drives before that were packaged well enough but this takes the cake. This is how you do it.

Edit - Sorry, should have mentioned in case anyone's interested: this was Plusdrives on ebay.

Hi all,

since one of my HDDs is dying (I have 4x HGST Ultrastar 7K4000 3TB in a 2x2 ZFS mirror), I've decided to retire them all. For upgrade I want to go with 2x3 4TB HDDs and my local supplier has some good deals (good compared to what I usually have available; also I don't pay for shipping).

My choices are:

| Model | $/TB | €/TB | |

|

|

| | HGST 4TB 3,5" SAS 6Gb 7,2k HUS724040ALS640 0B26922 | $15,06 | €13,69 | | HGST Dell 4TB 3,5" SAS 6Gb 7,2k HUS724040ALS640 07J9RN 7J9RN | $19,17 | €17,42 | | Toshiba Dell 4TB 3,5" SAS 12Gb 7,2k MG04SCA40ENY 01MVTT 1MVTT | $23,21 | €21,10 | | Seagate Dell 4TB 3,5" SAS 12Gb 7,2K ST4000NM0135 0FCHXF FCHXF | $24,36 | €22,14 |

All drives were tested, error free, with SMART counters intact, and apparently below 50% of their usual lifetime.

Use case: generic NAS for our family, nothing performance intensive.

All comments appreciated.

Hi, I was pointed here from another subreddit. Currently in the market for a DAS and considering various options. But it's my first time doing this, so while there's been lots of reading the past couple weeks I still feel a bit overwhelmed with which path to take.

Some notes about my situation:

-I currently use an Apple M1 laptop with thunderbolt 4 usb-c ports. Likely upgrading to M4 when its announced later this year.

-Need roughly 100TB of local storage for "RAW" images (hundreds of thousands of 30-100 megabyte files).

-Considering RAID6 or equivalent (RAIDz2?) Not sure if ZFS is even compatible with Apple silicon or worth the hassle. One concern here is potential speed of rebuilds in case of failure.

-an IT friend recommended this enclosure, which can be upgraded with internal battery backup. not sure if dated design. It has hardwire Raid which he says is expensive but more reliable than software. I'm inclined to believe it but also seen lots of pushback to this online: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used/1568434/areca_arc_8050t3u_8_8_bay_tower_tb3.html

-found these drives for sale, price seems good. 8x18TB in RAID6 should provide ~108TB of usable space? not overly worried about the recert aspect since all drives eventually go bad anyway. https://serverpartdeals.com/products/seagate-exos-x20-st18000nm003d-18tb-7-2k-rpm-sata-6gb-s-3-5-recertified-hard-drive

This is getting to be quite expensive but I have already accepted that before starting this process. My photo data is my life so I know this is something that needs to be done, and reliability / data safety is first priority, within reason. Please let me know if you have any helpful feedback, even if it's telling me I have no idea what I'm doing (I already know I don't). Cheers

I'm talking about the best quality, bit perfect rips of music, DVDs, blu rays, with all metadata preserved, or the only the best quality downloads off of YouTube as a couple of examples.

I used to care a lot about perfection myself, but I think it started to get a bit unhealthy and cause me genuine anxiety, so I've tried to focus more on preserving content instead of making sure its perfect (for example, I or most others are most likely not going to care that one inaudible bit was incorrectly read in a rip of a CD). There is of course a line between wanting reasonable quality and perfectionism, of course though. Where do you all stand on this spectrum?

Hello everyone. I recently bought a Seagate #ST500DM002 on Amazon and am not having any luck with it and need some opinions on if it may be faulty. Basically I bought the drive to upgrade the storage and capabilities of my Original Xbox console that I recently softmodded. As you can see in the pics the Xbox doesn't seem to be recognizing the drive properly (it's the slave drive in pic#2), it says it's model #ST_M13FQBL and not #ST500DM002 like it should. I then unplugged the drive from my Xbox and hooked it up to my PC and on the Disk Management screen it only shows the drive as an unallocated 3.86GB and won't let me format it, can't make a simple volume on it or anything. Does this sound like a faulty drive? I did a little research and it seems like if a Seagate drive shows up in Windows as #ST_M13FQBL people seem to say that it might be a bad drive...opinions? Thanks in advance!

Re-upload cuz I messed up the title

I stay true to the idea that you don't own something unless you can physically hold it in some way, so I always get shows and movies I like on dvd/bluray, I always try and get songs on CD, and I always try to get the discs and carts for games I like.

I was wondering if there's a way to backup my steam games to an external drive or something?

I would like to download videos from a site I’m authenticated to but there are hundreds of short videos (a few minutes in length) in a sequence with a next button that loads the next video. Is there a browser extension that can automatically download videos as I access them?

Alternatively, and actually ideally, is there an extension that can be pointed to a path and just download all video files from it in one go? The videos are actually hard linked in the page’s source code as mp4 files. I can use a regular downloader extension but it’s very time consuming downloading each one individually. This must be a browser extension. The path requires authentication with a key pair which appears to be generated with my login to the site.

My case only has two HDD bays. I’ve moved my two shucked drives back into their enclosures as my drive collection has grown. I was wondering what would be a good DAS or external enclosure for HDDs. I want to take my current ones out of the WD enclosures and consolidate them, so I don't end up with a pile of drives on my desk.

I use the hard drives for storing Plex media. I'm looking to spend $200 to maybe $300 for the enclosure. I just want something reliable that won’t corrupt my drives or disconnect frequently. I’m looking for at least 4 drive bays, but 5 or 6 would be even better. I always think I have enough storage, but I end up filling my drives with movies and shows.

Thank you!

I bought into the whole MDISK thing, and I want to start offloading some backups from my HDDs to MDISK. Mostly family photos and PDFs as retrieval will be much easier for family members if I disappear. Does anyone know of a good program to manage whats on what disks? Maybe using hash values to prevent duplication?
