(hey I'm posting here for the first time and I don't know if this is the right sub for this so please remove this if it's not the right place🙇‍♂️)

Hey I'm trying to back up my data using cryptomator and I've already backed up my files on onedrive+filen and just to be safe i wanted to back it up to another cloud service since i don't have enough local storage and did some digging then i saw yandex disk which is just $1.38 a month and currently there's a promotion going on (untill 30 September) $0.96 a month for 2 years and you get 2TB... So should i buy it? What are your thoughts on this?

(And before you say anything please note that i do not trust myself enough to be able to keep portable drive safe enough for me to use it for the next 2 or even a year. So please don't tell me to buy a local storage)

Will a dell powervault md1220 work without a md3200 series controller. I want to hook up my dell t420 to a dell md1220 array with a perc h800 hba controller. Do I absolutely need a md3200 series controller or can I connect the 1220 straight to the h800 controller attached to my dell t420. Is this possible and will I be able to use the management software for it as well. Thanks

I am using HP LTO-6 FC drive and this drive has an old firmare(J38S/EML FC). So I wanted to upgrade firmware to the latest one on HPE L&TT, but I couldn't download because I don't have support ticket.

I watched this link but there's no firmware for FC drives.

Is there any way to download my drive's latest firmware?

I am currently in the process of moving from unRAID to Windows with Stablebit DrivePool. In my current set up, I have all the drives running in an Ubuntu hyper-v VM using merger FS. Read speeds are perfectly fine as I can run Plex and all of my other applications off of those media files. However, I’m trying to write to my newly created pool and after about 10 minutes of writing, speeds slow down to around 200 to 500kbps. They never return. I have disabled duplication as well as balancing and can’t seem to find out why I am having such an issue. Copying the files directly to the individual drives just to test it out gets me around 125 Mbps. Of course this is outside the pool and not recommended. Anyone have a special tuning they can recommend on the pool to stop this from happening?

Years ago when we requested an archive of our Twitter data, they used to give us a small, simple excel file. it had one column for the date, one for the caption/tweet and one for the link of the tweet. etc. So there's no pictures or videos, thus making the file a SMALL simple file of URLs and text.

that's all i want. i dont wanna download my pictures i just wanna download an excel sheet of every url of every tweet of mine. (retweets no need to be included but are welcome lol)

and not just the last 3000 tweets. i want one that downloads every single tweet, please if anyone knows of a tool like that let me knoww.

i saw the "twExtract" chrome extension but i havent tired it yet... is it safe?

I’m looking for a tool to automatically straighten and crop thousands of photos, so the white border is not visible.

I’ve scanned all photos individually with the Epson FastFoto, so it’s not an image divider I’m looking for. Does anyone know of such a tool?

I realize this question has been asked, but I’ve not found any useful tools yet. XnView has come close, but still has a white “frame”.

EDIT: I should add the photos are all different sizes, so a one-size-fits-all solution is not possible.

Original Title: I'm an aspiring datahoarder. I have a Windows 11 PC and I just want to throw one of those 10tb refurbished enterprise drives from amazon into my case. This will be to supplement a 1tb nvme ssd. Should I anticipate any problems?

Is this the same process as installing a consumer hdd I buy at the store? Could there be any cable, formatting issue or other surprises? I've got a standard mid-tower case and psu, with an Asus prime b650 mainboard.

Original Title: Had to destroy a bunch of hard drives at work. I save the platters and the powerful magnets to move the read/write head, and some of the rings that hold the platters. Some of the magnets are so powerful, I need to add loops (the yellow pipe cleaners) to help pull them off! Just wanted to share :)

So I guess I’ve decided I don’t need a nas but would really need some big drives to connect to Plex server on my computer. Is there a good enclosure for multiple drives that’ll connect like external drives? I will have backups that I’ll use with an sata to usb cable. So something like that but for say 5-20tb drives. I’m trying to get my remux library going.

P.s. any reason I shouldn’t use the sata usb cable thing on internals as a separate backup? I salvaged some old drives I use this way but it doesn’t seem common here…

Thanks!

I have a 20 TB WD Elements loaded with movies and TV. Since I got it I’ve been transferring things o want to watch to a thumb drive and streaming to TV via USB that way.

Curious to if I steamed right off the HD 3-4 hours a day, would that put a lot of strain on it?

Most folks use Windows, hence all the non-Mac recommendations, but is anyone aware of a good way to run long tests on external hard drive disks using a Mac that is just as good as a windows approach?

I’ve got four used hard drives that I really want to put through their paces before I rely on them.

Google searches seem to pull up only good Windows strategies.

Hi All,

I am looking for the cheapest 4TB ssds I can find.

I don't need to have massive TBW as I don't intend to overwrite the data very often (usually just to replace lower quality content with higher quality if so desired).

The cheapest I can find is $282 NZD ($175 USD) so about 44 USD/TB.

Reason I want to go SSD is so I don't have to deal with vibrational issues with large quantity of drives.

I have looked at 20tb HDDs for $560 NZD ($350 USD) which works out to $17.5 USD/TB but then having to shell out for two extras for redundancy makes this feel wasteful when I only want to create a 60 TB array with 2 disk redundancy. Also feels risky if a drive dies and need to rebuild an entire 20 TB drive at spinning disk speeds.

SSD Calculation (15 + 2) x 282 = $4,794 NZD / $2,975 USD

HDD Calculation (3 + 2) x $560 = $2,800 NZD / $1,750 USD

Willing to consider alternative solutions anyone offers.

I used opendrive and it was _fine_ till they throllted me to hell now i have 1 mb/s upload speed so it just won't work, last month i uplaoded 15 TB of data so just buying harddrives seems really really expensive, what do you guys recommend? I just want something cloud unlimited that doesnt throttle and i can upload my files that is i dont even know how many TB might be 100 might be 200

Hi, i am planning to archive pictures . What medium is best?

Options: 1.DVD 2.Cloud 3.HDD 4. ?

Requirements:

  1. Shoube be immune to virus, readonly.
  2. Portable 3.future proof.

I am leaning towards using DVDs but its on the verge of obsolescence .

I just love the fact with DVDs that they just fit all my requirements but the 3rd one. I could just make few copies and store at multiple locations and they are just immune to virus or any kind of data corruption .

Both cloud and HDD can technically be viped in a virus attack.

What do you suggest?
