Looks like all but 6 of OpenAI Jukebox's SoundCloud tracks have been removed or made inaccessible, rendering their Sample Explorer unusable. https://jukebox.openai.com/

I don't supposed anyone managed to archive them somewhere while they were still accessible? I always found their Michael Jackson generations to be especially interesting, despite their low quality compared to modern AI music.

I have 2 hdds that i use for long term storage, i the past other hardrives had corrupted pictures and did not know why.

I want to check data integrity. I understand i need to create the hash for the hdd and periodically check it.

Is there an easy straight forward way?

Should i get software that checks 2 hardrives against each other, or copies to 2 hdds at a time? If so, which are they?

I was wondering what i should use to back up my phone (directories and everything). Should I use a pen drive, HDD or SSD? it won't be accessed a lot and I'm worried about data corruption (mostly pics)

Might be around 256gb

Yes I am one of the panicking fools trying to download their beloved tiktok data.

I just tried the method in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_efGP699VOI

and I also downloaded my data from Tiktok directly

From the validation I have done, neither method includes the videos you repost. I looked though the folders from the data directly from Tiktok and it does not have a folder for Reposts. Is anyone aware of any methods that will let me collect the videos I have reposted.

I know guides have been posted here before, but I cannot get them to work. Also, my situation is urgent, as the channel I want to download faces the risk of being deleted any day. It has 910 videos, if it helps. Please, any clear and concise methods are helpful. I tried using this method, but I could not get it to work.

I think you guys might know the drill by now. I’ve been really heavily impacted by my experiences on Tiktok and before it is deleted, I would like to save all my tiktok videos, their likes, saves, shares, dates, captions, tags and all the comments everyone has ever posted under them with their usernames, the date, and who they have replied to. I have a lot of content, 0 experiences with this sort of thing and I don’t have much cash. I’ve been searching for months already since I heard about the ban but I’m clueless and people aren’t very keen on helping. I’m really hurriedly wondering now if anyone can point me to a program or something else that I can use to jot this all down and save it somewhere?

I generate about 1-2TB of files a month. I store them on external hard drives.

I prefer to have backups (currently some of my data are duplicated onto different drives).

I access this data couple times per year.

Know of a cheaper way to store this? I'm just a normal guy with a normal laptop. I thought tapes could be a solution, but that doesn't seem cheaper with the hardware involved. Occasionally find good deals on 14TB hard drives that I stock up on.

This plugin in Obsidian called extract URL would do it with websites, insta posts etc.. Now it doesn't for insta posts. Description ends abruptly. Anybody knows a workaround or a different plugin?

Hey all. Long time lurker first time poster.

Apologies if this is posted often, or if it's a super basic question.

I have a DAS and I shucked a couple WD drives to put in it but the interface is different than other drives.

https://imgur.com/a/Um6Zt8l

What's the difference between these two? Can I get them to be compatible somehow (swap a faceplate or something)? Is there any way to get it into the DAS connector?

Thanks!

Title is pretty self explanatory, I mostly use it for memes and such but every now and then I see some pretty interesting channels and things about. My pool of useful info and notable events that happened on the app aren't massive as I've only decided to check it out a few months ago. But I think there should at least be a general effort to preserve certain pages so we can see the trends and topics of our times before it's lost media or a blank spot in internet culture history.

Hello, I’m a social science student and trying to study some reddit posts. I found the PushShift archives (https://the-eye.eu/redarcs/) but the subreddit that I want isn’t listed in the top 20,000.

They have given a link to the torrent for the full data. I’m not a tech person, so can someone guide me if I have to download the full data (2TB) or whether I can get the data for specific subreddits from the torrent?

I have heard many scary stories about torrents (some say they are illegal) so I’m afraid to experiment. If anyone has advice, please share!!

I don’t know what I actually need. But I have about 35tb of video spread across 2 WD external hard drives, 20tb each. I’m looking to use it mainly as a plex/infuse server. I’d only use it in my home. And would likely power it down most of the time.

id like to buy a system, but I don’t know what I’d need. Ideally, I’d like to buy something that’s got redundancy so if a drive fails, I’d still have the data. And I’d just swap the bad drive with a new one.

i don’t know if I need a NAS, DAS, or another pc. I’d like to control it with a Mac. And I’d like simplicity. I’m not the most tech savvy person, although I can search to troubleshoot.

id buy the main unit, hopefully under $500. And a drive or two every month. Any suggestions? Again, I’d like this setup to run on a Mac. i certainly know windows, and I have a windows laptop I whip out for windows stuff. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

TLDR; ServerPartDeals is a fantastic company and ordering and RMAing in Canada is a breeze.

Its likely no surprise to most of you that ServerPartDeals is great. There have been a -ton- of positive reviews here.

However, I'm in Canada and I was worried about both how easy / costly it was going to be to get drives in Canada and also how difficult / costly it was going to be if I needed to RMA a drive.

I was building a new TrueNAS build and the drive cost (even buying used) was easily double the cost of the rest of the build combined.

I ordered 13x recertified 18tb Seagate EXOS X20s from ServerPartDeals on July 28, 2024 (a Sunday). Shipping was $107.11 CDN. The order arrived August 1, 2024... so 4 business days later. No additional customs charges. Immaculately packaged. (Ironically the drives arrived way before any of the other parts of my build so I had to wait around a few weeks for everything else to arrive)

I ran BadBlocks on all 13 drives before doing anything and all of them passed with no problems found. Sweet!

Over Christmas however, TrueNAS started complaining about one of the drives. Smartly I had bought a spare drive (12 in the build + 1 spare). Stupidly I hadn't attached it to my NAS (to save power) and I was away for 3 weeks from home. Three slightly stressful weeks later the drive was still throwing errors but my RaidZ2 vdev was still going strong (glad I opted for the Z2 or I would have been waaay more stressed about it). Anyway popped in the spare, turned off the bad drive, re-silvered and I was good-to-go (TrueNAS is fantastic!).

For the RMA, I contacted ServerPartDeals and they got back to me within 12 hours. Really nice agent asked for some information about the order and the SMART results for the drive. Once I'd sent them, within 12 hours I had an address and an RMA # in Florida. $28 shipping cost through Canada Post (with tracking number). The drive was delivered to SPD on January 15, 2025. The same agent contacted me yesterday to say that my replacement drive was sent our via UPS with tracking number. It'll be here by Monday Jan 20, 2025.

Not affiliated with SPD in any way even though this may sound like a shill. Honestly I can't think of a single way that my interaction with them on both the purchase or the RMA could have gone better. I also can't think of a reason why I'd buy from anywhere else going forward.

Thanks to everyone here for the great recommendation, hope this helps some of your in Canada, and happy hoarding!

Just bought my first UPS a month ago after a good amount of research, APC BR1000MS.

Used it for a week, had it sitting turned off with no load but plugged in for two while I was out of town. Turned it on tonight - dead. Checked battery with volt meter. Dead. 0 V.

Pretty turned off with APC. Any suggestions for a quality UPS for a five bay NAS, WiFi 6 router and cable modem? Feedback cable to the NAS required.

Thanks.

Hello,

My current setup:

  • OMV running in proxmox, 2x 8TB Seagate Ironwolf drives, 2x 4TB WD Red drives (currently not used), 1x 2TB Seagate Barracuda for media. I’m running SMB shares based on directories from one of 8TB drives, nightly rsync to the other 8TB drive as a backup.
  • Nextcloud running in Proxmox with mounted SMB shares for each user.

I just moved and I have to put server in the living room. I would like to make that as quiet as possible. Fans are virtually silent, drives contribute to the noise the most.

The thing I would like to make use of is disk spindown, but I wonder how to achieve that. Every time I spin down disks manually, main 8TB drive spins back up almost immediately, second in a few minutes (I don’t know why, maybe smart monitor?).

So how can I achieve spindown most of the time? I thought about adding one SSD cache (500GB - 1TB MX500 drive) and setting up snapraid with mergerfs. Will it work with Nextcloud though? Or Nextcloud is scanning whole directories(mounted shares) continously to chech whether something needs syncing? In that case I think it won’t allow spindown, because it will have to spin disk up for a check.

Any suggestions?

So I want to back up my some movies, now there are a ton of them, like around 40-50 and usually around 25-30GB each.. What would be the best way to store or back them up?

I’m traveling a lot so what would be the best option for me? An external hard drive or something?

Sorry if its a dumb question, I’m not great with this stuff :)

Thanks!!
