Hi All,

I know there's massive distributed compute via services like Folding@HOME and SETI@HOME but is there anything for distributed storage? With the Internet Archive being at risk and the dismantling of existing US Digital Infrastructure and Information a service like this would be really useful. I mean redundancy will need to obviously be built in and some sort of reliability metric like Tor uses for nodes will need to be implemented but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

I need fully offline installer for Windows 11 that includes all the latest updates, drivers and other essential software so I can get my computer fully operational without a internet connection. Is this possible?

Hey guys. I'm wondering if there's a way to download this digital painting site for offline use: https://0-17-47-beta.heavypaint-p5.pages.dev/

I've tried wget and httrack, but they don't work for the interactive parts. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Am i going to see much difference in quality between these two when capturing uncompressed S-Video from a Sony Hi8 camera in 2025?

Thanks

This is an incomplete download of the MP3.com archive that I was gradually organizing by genre. Since I downloaded it in bits and pieces over time i realised that someone has tampered with the files on archive?, resulting in missing tracks. It appears that many songs were deleted simply because they had the same name, despite being different tracks. due to this removal of so-called duplicates, a significant amount of material is now missing.

I saw a guy with a blog and he talks about a software that claims to support BDXL. From what I understand he must be talking about Burnaware software (it clearly mentions BDXL support and its interface is very simple). He says there are discussions and incidents with forums. What exactly is the issue? This will be my first time burning a Quad-Layer BD-R but I don't want it to be garbage. Can anyone recommend Burnaware? Thanks:

To begin with i don't know how it was setup, this is a friends machine he bought and cant really tell me much., There is 4 x 12tb disk. plus an ssd with windows on it. He said in file explorer the D: drive came up as one big drive where all his work and photos were stored.

The motherboard has died and i'm not sure where to begin, I can swap out the board cpu ect. but when i plug the drives into the new board what happens? Does the windows install detect it was in a raid setup? iI don't want to attempt it with out a more information in fear of losing the data.

Cheers if anyone can give me direction.

I have been using Deepseek a bit through my web browser. The US government has proposed legislation to ban it in the US ala Tiktok. How do we backup the platform, and as I have enjoyed using it, is there a way to download it and run it offline on my home machine?

So I have a couple SSDs in RAID 0 on a now extra computer. I tried to boot it up after about a year and ran into issues and discovered the CMOS battery was dead so I replaced it, changed the SATA mode to back to RAID and went to boot up and it said no operating system found. Entering the RAID "settings" thing i see this. Does this mean the bottom disk failed and the RAID is now done or is there any way to recover it? I do Have a back up of the data but my bigger concern is the installed programs as Microsoft no longer recognizes those product keys saying "they are too old(purchased 2013), give me more money".

Mother board is ASUS H87-PRO

CPU Intel 4790

Thanks

Hello all,

I am looking for recommendations on software to help inventory all sorts of family heirlooms, stories behind them, and pictures.

Items include Christmas ornaments, decorations and furniture. Many of the ornaments have a story behind them. I.e., brought over from Germany in 1899. Or, bought while parents were on honeymoon. Etc.

Other items include nearly 200+ CD's with of tiff/jpg/psd files, along with a lifetime of 35mm, 110/220, and medium format film. A family member was a professional photographer for most of their life.

We also have hundreds of books. Some are probably rare copies from early 1800's or even earlier. I want to start cataloging what we have and eventually digitizing those very rare books if I can't find a digital copy otherwise available. Anything I digitize here I plan to make public.

Lastly, we have a large number of documents, letters, government land lottery info, etc.

I am already working on getting genealogical information into TNG Web software.

Any ideas for the best types of software to try to catalog these types of things?

My eventual goal, after getting things cataloged and digitized is to open access to family members to see some or all the data. But this is aways in the future.

I've thought about developing my own solution, but I just don't have the time to dedicate to something this big at the moment.

Thank you.

During the onset of the Russian/Ukrainian war we mobilised to archive as much information and data about it, from Ukranian gov sites to small blogs that would be lost forever. We worked with OSINT communities to ensure easy and quick access to any data needed. During the Twitter buyout, we did the same thing... and once again it falls on us to archive, hoard, preserve and share data that would be "lost".

We are a line of defence for freedom, not the only one, not a big one, but still an important one.

It's quite likely that all the hard work being done right now will go totally unrecognised by the vast majority of people. I just wanted you to know that that doesn't diminish what you're doing.

When the Nazis burned books they were trying to remove knowledge. This current purge is a digital book burning on an enormous scale. But because of you amazing people, that knowledge won't be lost.

Please make sure you're all being safe with your personal information. When they find out this is happening they will come after some of you.

Keep up the amazing work

I need to organize my bookmarks that have piled up over the years.

What is the simplest, cheapest or free way to export all my bookmarks?

I've seen names like Dewey or tweetsmash but they are a bit expensive. If I upgrade to blue, can l export bookmarks, and not just organize them within the app? Are there any other ways?

Using my throwaway to try not to get doxxed. I just got word through my local health department supervisors that at 5pm today all federal websites will be going dark. We have no idea what this means. They have already started rerouting or removing links to some topics but it is rumored likely that “all federal websites” are going to be pulled down by 5pm today 1/31/2025. I hope i am wrong, not trying to spread fear, just information given that we have ~2 hours to preserve vital information. Federal employees, i stand with you. Hold the line. Defend your oath to the Constitution. You are Patriots

Eta: yes, its 5 pm and there are still sites up. That dosent discount the fact that a lot of health data is disappearing and access to many sites we use to do public health work are restricted. My information was off, used language that implied all websites are going down, which may have caused panic that I apologize for. I felt it was my duty to share that information so that we could at least prepare for the worst

Edit 2 as of 2/2/2025: gift article to NYT coverage of sites affected. Excellent coverage https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/02/upshot/trump-government-websites-missing-pages.html?unlocked_article_code=1.t04.kZ5q._360tk62LdwF&referringSource=articleShare

So I get that the EOT Archive is getting/has gotten actual federal websites, which is fantastic. What's less clear to me from their documentation is to what degree they can capture actual datasets from those websites-and if they can capture datasets, what exactly they need to do so. The webpage the data are found on? A download link, so we're SOL for maps or other data that doesn't have download links per se? It would inform my focus on data to download, so does anyone here know?

I've made a YouTube to mp3 converter with which you can download whole youtube playlists or individual songs: https://amp3.cc/ And Youtube to mp4, where you can download videos, even in 4k: https://amp4.cc/ Audio downloads are supported up to 4 hours (including for playlists) and video download up to 3 hours (for 1080p quality) It is free, has no ads, no bload, and no download limitations (except for the length) and requires no registration. Hope you find it useful :)

Cleaning out some junk and found old issues of NatGeo from the 1970s or 1980s.

Any thoughts to where I can donate them? I'm not sure if there's a need for these and if I should recycle.

Quick searches show plenty of inventory on eBay, etc.

I know it's a forbidden thing to "delete" but we need to clean this place out.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for an M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD that pairs well with the Sabrent EC-SNVE enclosure (USB 3.2 Gen 2, 10Gbps). The ideal drive should offer a good price-performance, very high TBW ratings, a long warranty, and be compatible for file storage via smartphones. I've read that some drives require around 6W of power, which might be more than what smartphones can supply. Any suggestions?
