The New York Times held a "written online conversation," hosted by contributing Times opinion writer Frank Bruni, with progressive campaign consultant Anat Shenker-Osorio, Democratic communications strategist Lis Smith and former Ohio representative Tim Ryan to discuss the remains of the party after brutal losses in November.

"The Democratic brand is in the toilet," Smith said. *"Many of the Democrats who succeeded this cycle — our best over-performers in House races, for instance — are people who ran against the Democratic Party brand. Trump tore down the blue wall in the industrial Midwest, but he also expanded his vote the most in our bluest and most urban areas." *

"’The toilet’? Yikes, Lis, that’s severe. Do you really think it’s that bad?" Bruni asked.

"When the best way to win as a candidate is to run against your own party, it’s that bad. Our candidates down ballot are good. It’s what the ‘D’ next to their name means (the status quo) that people don’t like," Smith said.

Ryan explained the Democrats "got pinned as the status quo party" and "failed to redefine themselves on the culture issues," though Shenker-Osorio was more critical.

"Well … toilets have clear utility, so perhaps the comparison is even ‘generous,’" Shenker-Osorio said.

They also agreed the biggest issue was Democrats failing to repel the image of "elitism" over the working-class voter.

Prominent Democratic National Committee (DNC) powerhouse fundraiser Lindy Li announced that she is leaving the Democratic Party, which she referred to as a "cult," after facing an onslaught of internal attacks for criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris last week.

Li, a Democrat strategist, served as both a surrogate for Harris and a member of the DNC’s national fundraising committee, where she raised "tens of millions of dollars" on behalf of Democratic candidates. She also frequently appeared on the air to stump for Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign.

Li became the target of the left's attacks earlier this month when she expressed support for President-elect Donald Trump’s defense secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth. But it was the party's vitriolic response to a subsequent appearance on Fox News that pushed her rightward, she said on "Piers Morgan Uncensored."

"This past week has been harrowing for me," Li told Piers Morgan in Wednesday's episode. "This Saturday, I went on ‘Fox & Friends’ and I said ‘Democrats have a stench of loser hanging over them.’ As soon as I said that, there were boycott campaigns against me. Unblock, unfollow campaigns."

Li told "Fox & Friends" that she felt Harris was "indulging in delusions" of making a political comeback amid party buzz of the vice president staging a 2026 gubernatorial or 2028 presidential run and that the Democratic Party was plagued by the "stench of loser" after November's defeat.

The comment cost her forty thousand followers in four days and prompted an onslaught of slanderous attacks from Democrats, the same people she spent her whole career defending, she told Morgan.

"People have called me a whore, the ‘C-word.’ They asked for me to be deported…," she revealed.

Li said she was also accused of working as a "communist spy." The accusation was particularly offensive to her, she said, considering her family history.

"They're calling me a spy for the regime that killed my great-grandfather and these are the people who call themselves the social justice warriors," she told Morgan. "They're going headfirst into racism anytime someone dares to disagree with them. I want to be a part of the team that says men are men and women are women and men shouldn't play in women's sports."

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was slammed on Wednesday after she compared a Tennessee law banning gender transitions for minors to past laws banning interracial marriage.

Jackson and the other justices heard over two hours of oral arguments during the U.S. v. Skrmetti case, which involves the constitutionality of state laws banning gender transition medical procedures for minors.

U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar argued that state laws have the effect of "sex discrimination," since the minor's gender is key when determining specific medical treatments for those seeking to transition.

After Prelogar's remarks and exchanges with the other justices, Jackson said that she saw a "parallel" between U.S. v. Skrmetti and the landmark Loving v. Virginia case in 1967.

"Interesting to me that you mentioned precedent, because some of these questions about sort of who decides and the concerns and legislative prerogatives, etc., sound very familiar to me," Jackson said. "They sound in the same kinds of arguments that were made back in the day—50s, 60s—with respect to racial classifications and inconsistencies. I'm thinking in particular about Loving v. Virginia, and I'm wondering whether you thought about the parallels, because I see one as to how this statute operates and how the anti-miscegenation statutes in Virginia operated."

Jackson also said there was a "potential comparison" between the Loving case and Skrmetti and wondered if Virginina could have banned interracial marriage by following Tennessee's reasoning.

Jackson’s comments caused an uproar on social media.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., called Jackson’s statements an embarrassment to the Supreme Court.

"Yes, because banning a white person from marrying a black person is the same thing as cutting off a 10-year-old's gen*tals," co-owner of Trending Politics Collin Rugg said.
