Just came back from my holiday to Basque country, where I spent almost three weeks. I decided to take a break from politics (as far as possible in Basque country lol). To make this easier, my phone randomly decided to die a few days in, so I lost all connection to the world.

I wanted to use the holiday to find myself again. I was dealing with anxiety for the past two-three months, overly worrying about money and the future even though it may not have been needed to do so.

I did some hikes on the rocky beaches and through the mountains for a few days. I spent days on the beach relaxing and swimming. My gf gave me a book that, according to her, was meant to take me away from politics. She gave me 'Fall of Giants' by Ken Follett. For those who have not read it, it's a book about the labour struggle in England, the (build up to) the first world war, fall of aristocracy and the Russian Revolution. It even features Lenin lmao. It's mostly fiction, so she probably thought it would be nice for me to read fiction. I am enjoying the 1000 page book so far, so she was right.

While looking for balance in life, I had my great breakthrough on a rock. I was swimming at the beach when I suddenly felt the urge to swim past the cliff seperating the bay from the sea. There was nothing but cliffs behind it and I decided to go back when I suddenly saw a small rock protruding from the sea. I swam to it and climbed it, facing my back to the land. I saw nothing but ocean in front of me and I sat there for over an hour, staring into the distance. I saw water, incredible clouds, a far away thunderstorm and a boat in the distance, slowly passing by. I sat there thinking how this view will be the same in a hundred years and that I'll be long gone by then. And so will be the people back at the beach, together with all our worries. It made me realize again how little time I have in this place and how much time I spent worrying about unimportant things. When the hour was gone, I felt like a weight was gone from inside my head and my shoulders, and I swam back to the beach.

I enjoyed my stay in Basque country. I tasted the local cuisine, spent some time at the beaches, the bars and in between the Basque people. I enjoyed the countless political flags and (communist) statements made everywhere. I enjoyed the easy and laid back way of living and I feel refreshed. I'm ready to continue the communist fight over here now, and I have a lot of things coming up.

And, importantly, I will start my new job at the Union next monday.

How is life going? Have I missed important things while I was gone?

Been seeing a lot of outrage thrown at them recently their protests and been seeing a lot of people trying to disrupt these protesters for “disrupting” them and that they could cause inconvenience to emergency services but at the same time,I feel as though these actions are necessary sort of to better spread the message since the bourgeois media is going to turn a blind eye to it. So, since I’m not really familiar with the whole thing, I want to see what you think of them.

I think we should try to be more careful, not to automatically assume that everyone who is asking questions here about China/Ukraine etc. is always arguing in bad faith. I've seen multiple people who were genuinely trying to ask something here and the only response they got was mockery.

I do understand that a lot of times people who come here are trying to troll or just be annoying, but we still should try to engage in them in good faith as long as there is no reason not to do so. Not everyone who isn't from Lemmygrad is someone hostile to our ideology, and we should try to be kinder to them.

Marxist analysis has made me realize my worth as a human, and I truly want to work for the revolution, and be a part. I want to liberate myself and everyone else, from oppression of the working class. But why bother. Just because it has helped me understand my value, doesn't make me any less depressed. I'm just so alienated. I'm moving to UK this Sept. for masters. Permanently away from my country. I don't want to settle in UK because of the queerphobia that's rampant there rn, but isn't it cowardly of me? To go for a place that is both safe for me and also a place where change is viable. I've seen comrades say its best to join an organization and make efforts in your home country itself but I'm moving out because I can't get the education and job I want from the country I'm in rn, and I can't see myself and the people I love being safe in UK too.

It is all so nihilistic. I fall prey to cynicism. I'm alienated. I see no hope. What if there is no point. What if bigotry will eventually rise up and take over, no matter what I do. I want to see myself belonging. And doing something for the sake of change and peace. My attention span is low too. I fail opening a resource I genuinely want to read and study. I just watch youtube. I just watch something else. I keep trying and trying, but I can't seem to find common ground between two entirely different worlds I see in the future.

I still survive. I still live. Being queer. Being mentally ill. Being inherently against the oppressive system. I continue to fight. I'll continue being kind. Making the environment around me peaceful for those I love, and for anyone wanting love. I can't give up.

I don't know what's the point of posting this. I hope everyone is doing well. Take care of yourself. Be kind. Keep fighting the war, both inside and out.

given the current direction of the climate crisis and the humanitarian catastrophe ongoing I intend to make my house and garden into as useful a place as possible for those in need. I have about 40 m² of garden to use, I read somewhere that this could feed about 2 people and that you need about 20 m² of garden to feed a person year-round. folks in my village suggested I start out growing pumpkins, carrots and onions together initially.

currently the garden of the social housing I live in is almost entirely tiled over. the municipality offers a subsidy of €4,- per m² of tiling replaced by greenery. my garden is 52 m² but I still need a little bit of space for walking and parking my bike so I should be left with about 40 m² of gardening space for which I should be able to get a subsidy of €160,- for the food garden.

could this amount be enough to get my food garden started? I live in the Netherlands where it rains a lot so I will likely be able to obtain most of the rainwater from my rooftop or a (for now) freshwater lake nearby. what do I need to learn about / read to build a reliable food garden?

So I've been thinking for a while about this subject, and I finally decided to make a post about this some time after I saw a YouTuber say what I put on the title of this post.

Thing is, I've noticed that very often young people and especially kids are treated as lesser beings, like if they were not humans beings with problems and lives of their own but just an annoyance that people have to keep up with.

I remember when I was a kid and I wanted to cross a zebra crossing cars would just pass by without stopping more often than not. Now that I'm an adult they stop pretty much every time. I suspect it was because they didn't want to stop for someone they consider to be lesser than them.

Also, a lot of people seem to think that being a kid means that you just play videogames or whatever all day, but don't these people remember when they were kids? I sure do. Going to school has been the worst thing I've ever had to endure. The only difference with having a job is that you don't get paid.

Me personally, I find the EZLN fascinating. (if there is anything bad about them, let me know because I do not know much bad things about them)

They are one of the few movements that anarchists praise that I actually think are based, although the Zapatistas have told westerners to stop calling them anarchists, communists, or anything else.

They also fight against drug cartels and seem to have created one of the most stable territories in the Chiapas region.

However, they are too small to do anything big like overthrowing the Mexican government. They would be crushed quickly.

Give me your thoughts on the EZLN and/or, as the title suggests, any non-ML movements that you support.

It was really annoying back when I was a rightist but it's even more frustrating now that I am a Marxist-Leninist that so-called "leftists" denounce pretty much every single successful socialist experience in history.

So I’m nearly half Belarusian, I understand that Belarusian is not a language I can apply nearly as much as Russian. Duolingo is pretty bad because they make you guess when it comes to past conjugation. Ex. Words that end in у,а,ого,ю, are all guesswork. Mango languages is a good app, it’s a paid service but free if you have a library card, but the app keeps glitching and won’t work. What is a good website SPECIFICALLY for learning Russian? I’d rather have a website specifically for learning one language than a jack of all trades that barely teaches you how to speak the language. And if any comrades learning Russian would like to practice conversations with me I’d be more than willing to PM

some random question I thought of in my head

218

Oh boy I thought I would cool it with the controversial LGBT stuff on this site but my country was pulled into the Western culture war this time (making my blood boil as per usual).

The British band The 1975 decided to do a stunt where 2 male band members kissed on stage. Which was proceeded by a rant and behaviours that was very liberal, only could be done by someone who grew up in a hyper-capitalist and alienated society in which individualism festers like a plague.

Needless to say, but this sort of "activism" doesn't work. That's obvious enough.

Then the liberals that consume too much American media (or lives in America) comes out of the woodwork bashing the government for over-exaggerating, and/or praising this pathetic attempt at lecturing the barbarians for their bad values. Liberals really showcase remarkable cynicism and hatred of the masses.

The sheer chauvinism in which you come into another country as a guest to perform and then lambast government policy in which you yourself are not affected by and in which you agreed to beforehand, while at the same time breaking many social norms - well that takes the cake.

Thank you for giving right-wingers ammo to further politicize and police "LGBT" communities in this country - making it worse for everyone here by enflaming the already vicious identity politics prevalent here (referring to the local identity politics - not commenting on the American one).

Good job, colonizer. I see that the Brits still think that anyone cares about what they have to say.

The coverage by the Rolling Stone and The Independent is as chauvinistic as ever. I'd prefer it if you just called us primatives directly instead of this whole fake concern for human rights.

Atleast Reuters had the decency to mention that:

Friday's incident sparked uproar on Malaysian social media, including among some members of the LGBT community, who accused Healy of "performative activism" and said his action could expose the community to more stigma and discrimination.

but in typical fashion doesn't mention that such behaviours, even if advocating for something the majority of the people agree, is not acceptable. It's a concert, not a political debate. Narcissistic behaviour and dysfunctional interpersonal skills (as determined by our culture and society at large) isn't something that should be promoted. Furthermore, this isn't even mentioning colonial history and ongoing imperialism.

Liberals needs to be sent into re-education camps for decades to deworm their minds from their terminal brain disease.

Alhamdullilah that most people here don't have it and recognised the chauvinism for what it is. (All non-english and many English replies on this tweet for example.)

It always comes from the "nice guys" type. But it is also commonly said on TV that women love douchebags and therefore love being abused. In an episode of Family Guy, Quagmire or Brian tells Stewie that women enjoy being abused, so mistreating them will get them a girlfriend. This idea is obviously wrong and damaging. It perpetuates the idea that women are weak and need to be mistreated in order to be loved, when in reality the opposite is true. Women should be respected and treated with kindness, not abused in any way. This insanity about women should never be tolerated, no matter the context. Not only does this hurt women emotionally, it always leads to physical violence. It contributes to a dangerous cycle of abuse, as women may start to believe that this kind of treatment is normal and acceptable. Abuse of any kind is never okay and it is important to be aware of the damaging effects it can have on people. This shit is exemplified by the case of Brock Turner, who was convicted of sexual assault and served only three months in prison. His lenient sentence was seen by many as evidence that society does not take sexual assault seriously, and that it is somehow acceptable to harm and take advantage of women.

My opinion (I have no doubt I am right about this) is that sexism is the foundation of fascism...

My brother who considers himself a leftist and defines his views as socialist. "Nice guys finish last" and "women love bad boys" are a couple of ridiculous things he often says. Despite the fact that my brother is pretty “popular” with women, he doesn't understand that the women he dates are almost always drug addicts or alcoholics. He dates them through Tinder. It's basically the same thing incels do, judging all women based on this sex app called Tinder.

We should never measure a man's success based on how many women he slept with. It always makes the men treat women like sexual objects or a trophy to put on a display. Fundamentally, they become an instrument to accomplish a goal. (I'm saying we should not "virgin shame" i know it's tempting but try not to do it)

The idea that women only love "alpha males" is complete bullshit and ultimately hurts them. In doing so, it reinforces the dominant-submissive dichotomy. As in, the strong should rule the weak. Observe in the picture I posted that this shitty person compares women to children because of their perceived shared weakness...while asserting that men are stronger than them both...

"""There is nothing worse in my book than a man who betrays the trust of those weaker than himself, be they children or women.""""

Having comedians like Louis C.K doesn't help much either with jokes like "men fuck things up, women are fucked up”. What does that even mean you little shit??? Men are the ones who shoot up schools and throw acid at people when they're rejected. Can't they both fuck things up and also be fucked in the head at the same time? These “jokes” are casually accepted by most people... I am aware that most communists do not think that way, but based on the example of my brother, I am skeptical.

Also, this shithead in the picture says..””many women are understandably attracted to good looks in a man, and willing to overlook some pretty obvious character flaws if the man is, and perceived to be by other women, physically attractive””

It’s like they all think women are 14 year old tweens...They are all naive, according to them.

This is why I am not surprised when a lot of these men end up being child molesters...

In case you don't know, Travis King is an American soldier who just recently fled to North Korea and the news here has been talking about him constantly.

I mean I didn't expect it to be great but seriously. The most sanitised corporate liberal brainworm rubbish. Completely undercooked story. The film is basically just a vessel for monologues about women's empowerment, albeit in a completely shackled liberalist framework where the extent of empowerment is just female president and female CEO - standard lib feminist stuff. This film falls into the bucket of "virtue signal by consumption" media where just by seeing and enjoying the film, and more importantly understanding the wisecrack cultural references and feeling smug about it, the viewer becomes an active political agent. On a technical level, the writing is just bad. Like I said there's nothing but a very shallow plot. The writers just resort to monologues to present the politics of the film rather than allowing the themes to present themselves organically through narrative. The film is stacked with minority "representation", disabled, trans, fat, etc. But this so called representation is purely cosmetic, they are merely tokens in the choreography routines (which incidentally was one of the only parts of the movie I could kinda get into). This ended up being longer than I thought itd be. In short its nothing but a virtue signalling showpiece to stoke the fires of the culture war. I can already imagine what the right wing pundits will be saying about this film and what the liberal mob will be saying in defence of this corporate vacuous cash grab.
